A home invasion case reveals a family's savage tradition in which 18 years old Jägerbars have to chase down and disembowel one or more humans.
From Grimm Season 1 Episode 2: "Bears Will Be Bears": A case of breaking and entering introduces Nick and Hank to a mysterious family whose cultural background blurs the line of right and wrong. Meanwhile, Nick tasks Monroe with safeguarding Aunt Marie.

Sometimes, it's easy to forget that Monroe is a Blutbad and they created every werewolf legend. Then he casually tosses someone to the ceiling or rips out an arm and you go "oh, yeah, I forgot the kind, dorkly, dude in a plaid shirt can be absolutely freaking TERRIFYING!"

Do you remember when he first met Nick? Look at the difference between Monroe and any other creature that meets the Grimm. Every one of them are either afraid or go into attack mode. What does Monroe do? Monroe stalks Nick, surprises him and not only isn't afraid of him but looks him in the eye, laughs at "the Grimm" and invites him in (telling the Grimm that he will pay for the window that Monroe broke.😆 That says to me that either Blutbad are the worst out there or they think they are. 🤣🤣🤣

Monroe's personality is so intriguing, especially in the first episodes. He is true to his decision of being a Wieder Blutbad and admits that perhaps his grandfather may have deserved his fate but at the same time, like a true Blutbad, he remains loyal to his family and species and is deeply tempted to settle the score with the Grimms. He is quite literally split in two at the moment.

The subtle difference of the Dad and boys being humanlike bears but the mom being a full-on bear, probably to signify that she went through this Rohhatz and became a "full" adult bear in the eyes of the ancestors...

@@caydenswanger5113 My headcanon answer: maybe it takes a lot more energy/time for them to turn into a full-blown animal and it's something that only happens when they reach a certain age? Realistic answer: Probably the lack of budget, possibly the reason why this is the only time in the entire show that ya see a vessen transform into an animal. Rendering a full-blown CGI bear or wolf is a lot more time consuming and costly than just the face/practical effects.

That's because bottom line both the father and Nick were men of the law and they knew the law and understood the law and what would happen to the young son if he did anything more damaging. So wessen and Grimm aside, dad knew he had to follow the law.

she faced off against a Reaper which are wessen that are trained to fight Grimms. most wessen are terrified of grimms or will only attack in a group against a grimm. so Reapers are elites.

I like a prequel to...when Marie and Kelly were young and got their powers, they were (according to what Kelly told a lot younger). So i it would fun to watch, also because they didnt befriend them like Nick does. They were terifying.

I'm disappointed they didnt do anything else with Yagerbars past season 1, they were a very interesting and cool wesen, i understand the producers probably had their reasons, i just wish they had done maybe 2 more episodes involving someone as a Yagerbar.

Been some time but like the dad said "Nobody does that anymore." so it seems the tradition died out for the most part. Can imagine due to it being quite hard to pull off in newer times with police looking and you'd need quite some space without people people triggering traps and getting more attention. Would've loved to see another "Mommabear" though too.

That's exactly what my thought. Even without the ritual being done anymore, the series could have featured the Jagerbars more. I mean, many wesen types made multiple appearances all throughout the series, including the mice people and hundjagers.....

OceannxStarr Sisters 4L - It takes more than just seeing them, because later in the series Hank gets the ability to see them, too. Grimms have the ability (and lore) to fight and kill them, and most seem to have a compulsion to do that. Nick, as a good cop, suppressed that reaction except when in actual combat.

@@Egilhelmson Hank doesn’t have the same ability to see wesen as a Grimm. He just became aware of their existence from seeing some wesen in full woge (the kind everyone can see) and Nick eventually telling him what they were.

Basically in the show Vesen(creatures) have like a cloaking device that makes them look like people. Grim are a subspecies of human that can see through these cloaks usually when the creature is stressed but normal people can only see them for what they are when they let down the cloak usually to strike.

@@beatrixthegreat1138 Not in the States. After THE LUCKY DAY LAW as the press called it, it is allowed to shoot transpassers on your groowned IF you made it clear by signs on the grownd. Seen that often enough in California. AND that is the best way to dieal with it. Once you became victim of such a viscoous brake in yourself you start to think different abbout it, I bet !! Even though being on the safe sid of law makigh a so called CITIZEN ARREST AND HAND THEM OUT TO THE POLICE FOR SEVERE PUNISHMENT IS EVEN BETTER.

Roger Lynch Not sure what happened to your ‘reply’, but I imagine I would shore up the security of my place of residence after such a break in, _not_ assault, kidnap, and attempt to hunt a person like either one of us is an animal as opposed to _civilized human beings_ . Mind, humans can be bastards, but it’s not exactly our job to compete for who can be the worse bastard, despite how easily some embrace the notion. Chill out.

Mr BushWookie Well the premise of the episode was that those two teens were breaking into the Jägerbar’s house. However, the mother realized that instead of turning them into the police, she could use them in a coming of age ceremony where the boys hunt humans down. While I will admit the two teens were at fault for breaking into their house it did not give the Jagerbar’s the right to force them into such a sick ceremony.
