West Bromwich was called the Golden Mile… It’s High Street was packed once with shoppers… The shops were good quality varied stores…. Today as you can see it’s a ghost of a once proud Black Country town . As said in another comment Marks &Spencer closed in the 80s and from then the town along with its mighty engineering and manufacturing disappeared
At 0:54, on the right side: it's absolutely disgusting how the council or even land owner of that boarded off site have allowed it to get into such a state. That was Marks & Spencer originally until it closed down in the late 80's, then it became an indoor market which eventually closed resulting in the building becoming a derelict mess. My Grandparents told me how nice West Bromwich was in the 60's with so many upmarket stores (not anymore unfortunately).
It never gets any better does it, built the New Square shopping centre, killing the town dead, now I have heard they are closing down the indoor market and relocating the stallholders into the now vacant Argos shop, let’s hope they don’t move the smelly fish stall in there, betting shops, charity shops, at least the Star and Garter has gone, one arm bandit places about the place, sex shops, used to be two in the town, one in high street and one in bull st, the one in the high st is now boarded up, the trouble with West Bromwich it lacks vision and when something is demolished it remains a eyesore for somEtimes years to come, rats find West Bromwich a super place to live, all those discarded half eaten fast food trays, full of tasty morsels, I could go on, walking around I could see my humble abode from where I have lived there for 44 years, in my opinion the place is just a dump, there have been many improvemts over the years in housing, retail, leisure but the powers to be came a long at closed a lot of the places down ie:- the Gala Baths, then after 20+ years replaced it with something “better”, nice video by the way shown as it really is
