It’s amazing that you managed to trace this road, well done Sherlock We need this sort of history to be remembered 😂😊 So nice to see the spring water well flowing.
Thank you Philip for your vlogs I haven't really been home since '96 and am now doing some genealogy of my family and you have pretty much highlighted how difficult it is to get ones bearings in West Brom now and I have had to resort to old ordnance maps from the 1900s to get an understanding of where my family came from Most of pubs where we had a pint or two and lost some cash on the quiz machines(😂) are long gone Your recollections are pretty important because we all have a tendency to forget, and like me when we look back years later we lack a bit of reference so doing this jogs a few memories cheers
You are right it is very difficult to capture exact locations now. I visited Sandwell archives in Smethwick in order to try and obtain old photos I could use in order to create a better understanding of where certain roads were but archives had nothing of help, all I had in the end were some old maps, Many thanks
Hi Phil enjoyed the walk tracing Walsall Street at the start of your walk just past the Globe on the left ì remember a company called Northan Spring it had Big wooden green doors I would love to know if this company is were I remember it and the second car under the cover is a Jaguar all the best Paul
Yes indeed ,When looking at old census records I'm able to use the maps to plot the streets (long gone) to show just how close my relative and extended family lived and worked It seems that even our relatively small town seemed to be divided into even smaller communities where people lived and worked
I think...Hollyhedge Road and Bustlehome Lane....were Walsall Road...straight on from the...Old Church...Walsall Street...Hallam Street entrance to the Hospital
It was really difficult to establish where these roads were exactly, but I dont think I was too far off. I lived in Alfred Street for a time which is where Tesco now stands and even I now find it difficult to remember the street layout from the 70s onwards. Thanks for the comment
If you see people ask them what they think about regeneration, I think a lot would say they don't like it, you don't see many elderly walking around anymore, we're as back years ago they the life of everywhere, and yes I don't like all this new so called art blooming horrible 😢
