The store manager stated that it was not the suspect, after the entire encounter... The cops never consulted the manager when they first arrived... They went on to lie and state that the manager pointed out the Black shopper as the suspect... Regardless, the cop's radio/CB was clear that the actual suspect was in another part of the store, has the officer walked to the Black shopper... It was made clear in the dispatch call that the suspect is White and in another part of the store, yet the interrogation of the Black shopper took place... The store manager attempted to lead the training officer away without alerting the Black shopper to the actual White criminal being captured... Thereafter, the excuses and damage control of the cops took place.
I belive this falls under poor leadership on the behalf of the senior officer but the training office went along with it to back up his team leader and was following orders agenst his better judgment. He should get a second chance. But the senior office should be severely remanded and busted back to training. As no one got hurt just severely insulted. They owe the black man an apology in person.

This man is so disgusted because as he says, “I walked in the store behind you”…He literally walked in behind the (keystone) cops that were looking for a white suspect (you can’t make this stuff up).
Even though they got the description wrong they still wanted him to empty his pockets for them or whatever. It’s always a power play with these bullies that have badges.

It was still a mistake because they did something they shouldn't have done. They did something wrong and racistly inexcusable! So this is a mistake in the overall-big-picture sense that even if you intend to rob a bank and you do so, it was a bad decision. Wrong decisions are mistakes in the grand scheme of life in general, even if the specific targeting actions of a situation weren't mistakes individually. One of the shades of meaning of the word "mistake" is "to be in error." Being in error is anything that takes you farther away from perfection. Thus, "mistake" does _not_ only mean "done intentionally." Besides, plenty of mistakes do come with lies. People make one and then lie about it plenty of times. Lying is a mistake because when you do it you have to keep maintaining the first in a given situation with more and more until you eventually blow up. And then when that happens, you see how much of a flawed plan it was.

"They made mistakes here" - No, they didn't. They made intentional choices. A mistake is when you do something that was unintended, such as thinking of the word "sent" but writing the word "send". When you, on video, explicitly state that an individual doesn't look anything like the description provided to you, but you decide to target that individual anyway, you cannot claim that that is a mistake. Additionally, explicitly lying about the color of the jacket was not a mistake. Also, the claim that "mirroring" (looking at) a police officer can be interpreted a sign of guilt is infuriating. They're now telling us that looking at a police officer is a sign of guilt and (as has always been the case) that NOT looking at a police officer is a sign of guilt. Where, exactly, is that presumption of innocence of which we speak so highly? Lastly, that part about the officers not being able to tell this man's race when they saw him is just laughable. Even if we were to believe that claim, they could clearly identify his race once they started approaching him and, because that was yet one more thing that was diametrically opposed to the description provided of the suspect, there was no reason to question him. An administrative warning isn't nearly enough of a punishment for that kind of betrayal of the public trust. Government officials at all levels seem to have forgotten that the ONLY reason they have those jobs is because we, the people, gave that power to them in order to carry out those jobs on our behalf and that we have placed our trust in them. When that trust is destroyed, there is no longer any reason for them to keep those jobs and that power.
Bravo, and don't forget that the chief or captain claimed it was consensual. The hell it was! It's never consensual when a uniform officer initiates contact with you, especially when he's conducting an investigation into your guilt of a presumed crime

I think mirroring is a term meaning someone is actively trying to hide from the them, as in they don't want to be spotted. There's no proof that Mr. Lindsay was doing this and these two Officers were definitely in the wrong.

omg I totally agree ....police training nowadays when it comes to interaction with the public is about immediate control regardless to place or obvious conditions ....to get as much out of the encounter up to and including arrest .........with this warrior type attitude projecting total power and authority and those officers who continue to practice that approach are not qualified to be law enforcement officers ............the traffic division of every department in this country use the approach of detain and harrass to see if they can force a search out of the situation ..........if you want to stop the obvious racist attack on black lives via traffic stops then put a time limit on the stop ....pop quiz once violation is identified and the citizen is stopped how long does it take to write a citation ?.......probably less than 5 minutes when stopping a citizen officers should be trained to know about the constitutional rights involved instead of being trained to override them in an effort to maybe catch a criminal ...... but in reality a majority of the time it is abuse of a citizen quietly attempting to go about his business ............lets start reform with better training and serious ramification for those who behave in a manner unbecoming to law enforcement officials
The problem is that a lot of cops never mastered their shapes and colors. There also seems to be a problem with them knowing their numbers and the alphabet.... there's a widespread problem with police pulling over wrong vehicles. They might be looking for a green jeep with the plate number OII347 but they pull over a red Nissan with plate number SOU923. So, it's not really surprising they'd stop a black man in an orange jacket when they're looking for a white man in a green jacket. All you need is a diploma or GED to become a cop but somehow a lot of these guys didn't master kindergarten.
"Mistake"? My dad mistook salt for sugar when he made a pie one time. I mistakenly tried to get into a car that was identical to mine in a parking lot. Going after a black man, when they specifically said it was a white man is not a "mistake"! I am just hopping mad at this...and I am an elderly white woman. I live in Belize for the past 15 years and I am treated with so much respect. Young men will pick up what I dropped "Here Mommy, you dropped this" , "Mommy, can I carry your basket?" Etc. The one time I felt very ill, I was in the Post Office. There was a lady in there who rides right past our house to get to her house. She brusquely questioned me, what is wrong. I was leaning with my head on the counter. She, quite cross, tells me I better get home. I said yes, I know. I knew she wad going home, she said so. She never offered me a ride. And she is white. Have we white people lost our decency? Knowledge of manners and what is due to an elder? Can we not give someone else a little place in the shade? Can we not treat others like you want to be treated? A PS to my tale: the Sunday in church, she remarked something in the line of "I see you got home". Also that Friday was the beginning of my Muscular Dystrophy life. God please be merciful to her.
Yeah for sure! It's only a consensual encounter if a civilian feels free to leave. Who the hell would feel free to leave when officers say they're investigating you as a thief?
It's up to citizens to know their rights. All he had to do was ask if he's being detained. If they said yeah, he should then ask for what crime. Once they say shoplifting, ask them what evidence do they have to prove this other than " a call". Then ask, " am I free to go. If they say yeah, leave. If they say, "no", advise them that they cannot detain you to figure out if you committed a crime or to look for a crime. They can only detain to investigate evidence of a crime. If they insist on illegally detaining you, let them know under protest you won't leave the scene but will not assist in the investigation or answer any of their questions and to let you know when you're free to go. As someone who did extensive shoplifting in my youth, I can tell you that if I was shoplifting and thought I was being watched, I AM NOT GOING TO "MIRROR" THE COP.
No on black ever mirrors cops.. it's a ridiculous notion.. If anything we go the opposite way.. These guys are clowns.. if he is so observant Why didn't he observe the Black man in the Orange jacket come in directly behind them.. What a bunch of delinquents.. What A Clown Show.. Yes A Circus.. 🎪 And they get paid to do this😒
I live in Indianapolis and an officer followed me for about 6 blocks.I went to knock on my best friend's basement door and he accused me of burglary.I must have gave him the blue so bad.He eventually got in his car and got the hell away from me.I told him burglars don't knock
Yeah, I was impressed by the accurate description. Show me a guy and I’d say the complete wrong description, lol. Lots of “I think.” “I think he’s white or something, I see some green stuff, little red. Uhhh…”
I hope Eric Lindsay uses this clip in his lawsuit. While the trainee admitted he didn't look anything like the suspect, he still went on to lie to Mr. Lindsay saying they were getting a description that matched him. The trainee is just as culpable because he knowingly perpetuated a lie in real time.
When the reporter is literally telling the chief that his officers were wrong and the chief is still trying to justify them stopping the wrong person. Smh
Jussie Smollet. Shut up. Making up racism nonstop because you know it doesn't exist anymore and you just aren't good enough. The only racism we have in the USA is against whites and Asian people, and it comes from Left wing of all colors
You can't call it a "consensual encounter." That man did not want to stop and talk to the police. If he had ignored the order to stop and had instead kept walking, those police would have put their hands on him, 100%.
And then charged him with resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, attempted murder of a peace officer and even jaywalking once in the third grade
@@sirslickrock ...There was a case in Detroit where the police assaulted and beat an innocent black man bloody then charged him with destruction of state property for bleeding on their uniforms.
You had The Black Panthers but what do Blacks in the USA like? To be happy, to smoke weed and see the world as if it were colorful. you could have made history If they had had the second civil war only this time it was no longer for the rights of Euro-Americans but for Afro-Americans But you betrayed the Black Panthers because you thought a world colored with marijuana was real, you will continue to die until you make the revolution.
It always mistake on the job, but those policemen need to do right and act like real policemen by not hurting their department or they never be policemen for doing terrible work to a good citizen, that never hasn't done crime themselves.
he was a trainee who got fucked over by the senior who told him to go after the guy. not the first video i saw of a trainee getting ruined by stupid senior officer in youtube

"Profiling" is seeing a black man and immediately thinking he's a criminal/suspect.This is beyond profiling. This is getting a call about a white criminal, but yet you stop and question a black man. They have evolved past simple profiling.
Well you can't make white folks look guilty, you know they weak, gotta be diplomatic on camera, since there's a lawsuit going on and pigs (NOT speaking of cops here, but this kind of people) protect their own.
As a white man who grew up in a very mixed area, and who learned early in life that racism exists despite all of us being the same under the skin... I find this absolutely atrocious behavior! There is no excuse for the police profiling that man like that, and he deserves to be angry about it! The cops didn't escalate the situation (as happens a lot), but it shouldn't have been a situation to begin with!
@@OthoWilliamsJr For reference, I am a 55 year old "early" Gen-Xer. I was born and grew up in Baltimore City, in a racially mixed neighborhood. As kids, we were ALL friends, and we didn't see the skin colour of others until it was pointed out to us by the adults. Even still, we didn't really care. It didn't matter if you were black, white, Asian, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern. If you were nice, you were accepted as a friend. As we got older, we began to see the differences in regard to sexual orientation, but that STILL didn't matter. If you were friendly to us, we were friends. Period. When the topic of "Same Sex Marriage" came up, it was my generation that went before the Supreme Court to argue on their behalf. Somehow, we were able to convince even the conservative Baby Boomers that it was the right thing to do. Yes, I am proud of that fact, even though I only cast a ballot in support of it on the Maryland state level. Don't get me wrong, I went through my "young and dumb" phase, but I did get past it, and use that life experience to be a better person. I've attempted to make amends for my own personal mistakes, and I think that's why I am at peace with the man I've become. I believe in fairness, equality, and justice for all. I also recognize that our system is completely broken, and skewed against those who lack the financial backing to afford equality and justice. There is also an inherent bias against minorities that needs to be dealt with. Equality and justice should not come with a financial cost. The wealthiest country on the planet still has people living on the streets, without proper healthcare, or even the means to survive. Hell, the Constitution itself says that you have a right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. How does one find Life and Happiness while living on the streets, begging for money simply to survive? These are complex problems that will take time to fix, but in the meantime, people will continue to suffer these injustices, and it's not right.
@@IggyStardust1967 Thank you for Being You, sadly Black Men DON'T hear good stories coming from Caucasian Men growing nor the Women. NEVER be a CNA(Certified Nursing Assistant), Assist Living Quarters, etc....I heard some horrendous stories how those treated Black People growing up. Even the caucasian friends I have tell me about they're Families of folks being RACIST towards Black People. Yes, we have Black Folk that are just as Vile, Horrible too. So I NEVER forget to add that. BUT the minds of caucasian people makes "us" stand clear of those types because of the way of thinking. Your right RACISM starts with Adults. Once I left home town, Racism became noticeable, then when I came back I said oh, it always been here I was just a child to NOT see what was happening. So these Police diliberately profiled this Black Man based on.... That's the Problem we as Black People UNDERSTAND BUT DON'T UNDERSTAND basically RACISM vs. The Mind. This sitiuation is just as a scene in the Cop show on A&E, the reporter was caucasian, she left but kept the scene to show the world. That Police practice & liveout the RACISM in the Police Force. So EVERTtime I see a Caucasian Man via You are a Man no matter the skin. I give PROPS🙇🏾♂️ because you get it. I DON'T say oh he's white he should be Profiled. No❗, WRONG is WRONG no matter the skin color. That one Police sucks, he tried to do it again in the video🤦🏾♂️. Appreciate you brethen✊🏾🍿💪🏾👑
I agree with the brother’s statement: “is these the type of people they give a badge and gun”. The chief sit there and calmly explain this isn’t racism, it’s two officer who need re-training. BULL SH*T!! You can’t re-train racist punk a** cowards. I hope he win his lawsuit because these idiots knew exactly what they were doing.
@@concentratecorner1744: To be a cop you have to give up your religion, you are train to be a liar, they train you to hate the public instead of protecting them, you basically become a criminal with a badge and gun. With that said, I don’t think I want to be a cop.
@@shellshipman3853: Exactly!! It starts from the top down. And the chief sitting his a** there and calmly saying his officers did no wrong. Is he on some type of drugs. A blind man can see these two officers are incompetent racist idiots. Both should not be cops. They give a gun and badge to anyone who’s willing to take this f**k’d up job.
You can hear the frustration, the hurt and anger, built up over decades streaming out of him. I hope the tears he shed washed his wounds, that the cops in his town and America at large open their hearts and eyes.
@@Firstthunder: Yes… I heard it too. We as black men are sick and tired of being target by these incompetent racist demons. Without that badge and gun, they will never, ever approach a black man like this because they are cowards to the core. I hope this brother get justice and win his lawsuit.
Officer: “you got any items in you’re jacket?” Innocent man: “HELL YEA I GOT ITEMS IN MY JACKET THE ITEMS I CAME IN HERE WITH RIGHT BEHIND YOU GUYS” 🤣 that literally made me laugh so hard
But it sucks that any money that he may be awarded by this lawsuit will be coming out of our tax dollars, not from the police department and those 2 officers directly.
Such a powerful statement when he told the officer “it’s not OK…..you don’t understand until you get the skin color I got.” As an African American, I said to myself “how many times have I said and or thought that?”
You can go jail because of the color of your skin they didn't think a white man do it so. They. Pick. On the black man. They dont respect black people's. God see and know everything. Their time will come oneday. In. Jesus mighty i 🙏 Amen
I couldn’t even fucking believe it when he said that. The officers entered the store BEFORE him, and they still somehow managed to profile this man. Unbelievable. The lies told by the cold we’re infuriating. “Yeah well, that’s not what we were told” Like BITCH you literally just lied to the man’s face!!!! We literally all can hear the voice on the radio telling them the suspect is SOMEWHERE ELSE in the store. I pray these 2 never get another job in law enforcement again, can’t have dangers like this being the one wielding guns and other weapons
As a black person of course you'd be watching the police you can't trust them enough to not do that. walking up to someone because they're watching you isn't a valid excuse to accuse them of a crime. I understand his frustration constant profiling and oppression stays with us as black people and it never goes away.
@@nigachu8249 I bet you blame black people for you being homeless too, huh? You resent us? You out of all people should humble yourself lest you end up back on the streets begging for Pennies and scrounging for food in dumpsters.
It's alarming to me how easy that cop lied to him, saying the store called them about him putting stuff in his jacket. The police chief was so full of excuses in that interview. I can see that the incompetence in that department filters down from the top.
Watch the full video it tells you a different story. They were being directed where to go the entire time over their radio. The last place they were told to go was the dog food section. When they got there there was one guy in the aisle. Anybody with an eye can see he had something under his jacket. (Not that he was stealing)
@@billmarshall268 that's a lie i rewatched the video and the only thing that was being said over the dispatcher was the wyht mans description stop lying
