As a Hawks fan, heading into the game I did also think that West Coast did have a chance of pulling off a win too, so completely respected what you had to say about the preview. I was honestly surprised at the lack of effort shown by the Eagles on the day, hopefully they will kick back into gear again soon.

No on-field leadership. Stop this dual captaincy nonsense. We need one passionate, mature, respected player who can motivate between breaks.

We have only had dual captains for two games. So if you are saying we no onfield leadership that kind of contradicts you saying we have too many captains. Remember there is a leadership group, plus guys like gov and Cripps who have stepped out of it. I think the team is just mentally immature - too many ball watchers and guys who probably don't understand the game plan, so it falls apart and then it just snowballs.

As a Hawks Fan, we are in rare form this last couple months, we were even poor kicking at goal in the first half because of the bye I would guess and Eagles fans putting off players kicking for goal, our midfield has clicked and our general defence and pressure has been top knotch, I think we had the game played the way we wanted and to do it away was a huge positive for us.

I reckon if you asked the Hawthorn players and coaches off the record they would tell you that it was a bruise free win. Watching Scrimshaw, Weddle and Amon take bounces while barely jogging is what was hard to watch as a WC fan. I thought Worpel and Newcombe were excellent in the middle and you can cop that (we crushed Melbourne in clearances and inside 50s, it happens to every team) but the lack of pressure around the ground was so poor. Credit to Mitchell for turning the Hawks season around after a poor start and lots of criticism. Wish I knew why we started to do that and have fallen back into old habits.

sides have worked out our ball movement, so we're forced wide and being really defensive. all we have left is trying to be more hungry than the opposition and tackle harder. When that doesn't happen (like last week) we're stuffed. Only solution is for the next couple of weeks picking a youngster to make a debut and going for youth. We may get thumped by more. But it should bring the youthful enthusiasm which may be the thing we're lacking. Burgoile Hall Rawlinson trew culley for starters.

My comment on your last video: “Strongly disagree that we need to change expectations for the club 2/3rds the way through the season. Yes, we need to expect more each week, but also need to expect that our younger players will fatigue further as the year progresses and an injury here or there to Yeo, Kelly, Reid, gov or Barrass again will cripple us again. For me , just want to keep growing slowly without upping expectations beyond what we set out to do at the start of the year, which I think we can all agree was something along the lines of: win 4-6 games, expose the youth as much as possible and be competitive in most games(ie no 100pt blow outs), particularly away but also at home.” Sunday was very disappointing, but for me it’s inline with expectations. We had a fit team yes, but 2 of mids were coming off a long break and Yeo had other things going on. Let’s keep expectations realistic

@@tomdavies8233 yeah I agree, effort at this point is a non-negotiable for sure. But we need to look at holistically across the 24 rounds. This was a horrific result, but I honestly think things conspired against us a bit. TK and Reid coming off a month off will always be hard, especially as the explosive players they are. Yeo was clearly not ready to play emotionally and that’s more than forgivable, to be fair to him we shouldn’t have played him. Our forwards and backs were actually ok given the lack of inside 50s and the barrage the backs had to deal with. We actually had 8 scoring shots to 10 in the first half. Had we kicked straighter or were slightly more efficient going inside 50, we could have almost been in front at half time. We fell apart towards the end, which was very disappointing, but somehow expected.

I actually find that a bit alarming for a team that’s down the bottom and meant to be prioritising youth. We better show at least some semblance of having a competent list this week against Melbourne. Some things are inexcusable. I can handle a loss if i can see effort from the players, but legitimately what were the mids doing? We had what, 2 tackles more than the Hawks and 150 less disposals? How can we let that slide? Edit: i’m not certain that this actually has any bearing on the games or not, but we have been destroyed in the midfield every week since Matt Flynn came into the team. Is there something changing psychologically in the mids when they think they have a proper ruck in the team?

Your point about the midfield is very spot on having there are alot of contested and explosive players. And with a WAFL midfield of Culley, Trew and Hall it's much of the same. Maybe a solution is trying guys like Chesser, Burgiel and Johnston as inside mids to try and get a point of difference
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 2 месяца назад
Chesser is only an inside mid really. Burgiel needs to debut - fact. Johnston not ready yet. Hall needs a shot. Trew has to play (or why did they sign him up). I'd rest some of the talls, and start rolling the dice with the young kids. Bring in enthusiasm and you can then make critical calls on them going forward. The midfield is poor. But the solution isn't to pick less of them. They're experimenting with positions, and the players are probably picking the vibe of for the future.

I was at the game and every Midfield mix seemed wrong and I mentioned it during the game. I feel Clay Hall or Trew would be ideal. We need a Priddis type, like you said omeone who can get the ball out. I liked Ginbey in there not because of Midfield craft but at least he is defensive and trying to chase and tackle. The midfield is way too offensive.

We brought in Flynn after 1 WAFL game having not played in a year. The team at the weekend had Flynn, B Williams, Darling, Allen, Waterman plus Maric as the sub. We obviously want Allen in the side and Flynn was brought in to be #1 ruck so B Williams could play forward but we are too tall. For whatever reason we are happy to play Harry Edwards or Rotham in the WAFL if we have Barrass and McGovern available but won't make a harsh call at the other end. With Flynn injured I expect Jack Williams to come back in and he won't be as effective as he was earlier in the season when Allen was out. After the first 5 or 6 rounds Darling has been alright, but I can't help but feel if he was on 280 or 285 games instead of 292 he would be getting the Gaff treatment.

J Williams is building experience. But I can't see BWilliams, JWilliams and Allen in the future all there. Then Waterman. Maric may end up in defence and he should be playing their at WAFL to build experience. They were hoping that BWilliams Darling Allen could get some synergy but BWilliams just needs time to build. Because of his outstanding efforts in ruck they don't want to drop him but what is the option. But the ball doesn't go into the forward line at WAFL. Experiment of JWilliams in Defence was really interesting, at the very least to learn some defensive tricks. Supporters won't want Hedwards playing on the best forward, but that is what needs to occur. Bazzo will be in again next year. All the tall forwards smells just like an experiement to me and I think the players pick up on the experiment vibe with Ryan playing mid too. The focus was to build massive pressure up forward, but now we're just experiementing with tall timber. Hough needs to be on a wing for a run, he's had a decent learning experience down back. If Ginbey is sore, then given a few weeks down back and to get experience. Cole could be a defensive forward or tagger. Duggan should always be in the middle now.

In terms of west coast, if that was at G or maybe Tassie youd accept a 30 pt loss sort of tight game where hawks kick ahead late but to have a sort of solid side coming in and the game being at Optus you'd expect more of a contest. Harley looked a bit rusty but ultimately doesn't have the weapons around him yet, mcgovern and Barrass best players on park from both sides i thought but they cant make up for 60 odd inside 50s, heard alot from Eagles fans about eagle spine coming in and post game id say it still needs some work. For what its worth id rather your list than tigers but north and eagles should both be looking to be above what richmond will be soon.

Eagles have been experimenting up forward there is no doubt. Picking a tall forward line, including BWilliams who has rarely played forward in recent years. Hutchy playing was crazy. Forward line experiment has cost us a win and explains our lack of pace and mids. Also having Maric on wing in recent times etc. They are planning for next year, but the players pick up on the vibe. Also players morale would be affected knowing they stacking their side with tall forwards and form guys are missing out. That could explain a lack of enthusiasm.

We are coming from a long way back. 5 100+ losses last year with some 60,70 & 80 point losses. English, Baler and if we can Bolton should all be priority in trade. We lack depth midfield.

Theenthusiasm generated preseason that rolled into the season was awesome coaching. But he does have a weakness in that he pigeon holes players for positions and selection. He's experimenting with all talls up forward, but if anything that tells players that the club is playing for the future. Ryan in the middle, short term fix only. Instead, try Cole as defensive half forward or tagger, Duggan in middle, Ginbey to rest his body in defence and experience, Hough up on the wing to free him up. Keep Jones in defence. Experiment Burgoile on wing. Chesser inside mid only or defensive half forward.

I reckon they need a debutant this week from one of the kids. Enthusiasm and excitement is missing. Youngers and veterans struggle to play out years (and that's the Eagles). We're struggling in the middle with contested possessions. Side have worked out our ball movement. We don't have the talent or depth to override this. So to win and be competitive requires hunger and enthusiasm. I reckon that comes from the kids, especially one playing his first game. I'd go for Hall and/or Burgiole. They also have to give Trew and Culley a shot. They need to stack the mids and give those guys a go.

Jamieson is hungry and shows versatility until a decent defender arrives. I'm disappointed they have Sheed as tagger, even Gaff would be better suited. Nope, sack sack, sack. I’ve been the biggest advocate for Simmo. I’ve loved him and still do but these performances don’t fit the quality of the list on paper. Footy coaches need to be hard. Simmo is obviously not hard. I’ve had coaches that would have belted the team (not literally) for 4 of the last 5 performances. Mighty Mick would have had them firing and would never have had a record breaking loss like last year. The question is who replaces him? So it’s either, Cox, Jamie Graham, Ash Hansen or Schofield. As an interim coach, I’d tell Schoey, look if you win 5 games by the end of the year the job’s yours next year.

Your team will have the gross performances here and there, Good players are nice to have but they have to play as a team bring some sort of a system especially in the middle to be honest Hawthorne put on some hard pressure even against the best teams. Brisbane GWS and my Crows struggled even when they did play well Hawks are fired up and put teams away early. Probably hurts more as it was at home and then freo go on and win at the SCG. My thoughts would be an inside mid that is an extractor in the draft Jagga Smith and Sid Draper are the two main ones but in saying that who out of Kelly Yeo Reid or Ginbey do you take out but that is not till next year. Hey even if West Coast went after Laird or Crouch that would benefit depth and get an Extractor in the process if you select a Smillie or O'Sullivan this year.

You said we need a midfielder with running power who accumulates the footy? I don’t watch the wafl but isn’t Zane Trew that kind of player? Seems like many supporters have been calling for him to have a real go… hopefully some changes this week.
@TrueEagleAFL

He's a bit more of an extractor than a gut runner - his tank is defintitely good enough to accumulate good WAFL numbers but we probably need a bit more gut running accumulating - a young Gaff for instance

The only way Bailey Williams should retain his spot this week is if Matt Flynn is out He’s been quite poor up forward Ginbey, Kelly, Reid and Yeo (understandable) got absolutely fucked in the contest all day, our defenders just kept turning it over, Harley is 19 and still was playing better than the rest of our mids Our midfield got absolutely flogged all day which is a massive concern and a selection statement needs to be made It was automatic that hawthorn burst out the stoppage We got 0 supply inside 50 and tbf players gave 0 fucks Forwards and mids need a fuckin spray it’s absolutely disgusting H Johnston needs to get more opportunity (he’s got a bright future, just needs to develop physically) Clay Hall needs to be given an opportunity soon Harry Edwards should be given more opportunity now he’s ready Liam Ryan is NOT a midfielder adam simpson Tyler Brockmen isn’t AFL ready rn

Literally won’t watch another game until they sack Simpson and Darling. Love the club but they need to make changes and make a statement. Simpson isn’t the guy for the job moving forward and Darling is a disgrace that keeps getting games. This dual captaincy thing isn’t working either especially since Duggan is B grade. Give it to Gov

Get our team profile younger for a start and get more development in. Rotham, Witherdren, Jones have been the same for years, they need to go. Chesser needs to go to the wafl for a few weeks, he’s playing with no consequence at the moment. Ginbey is an example of why we cannot split the pick 3 this year. His skills are horrible and he can’t find the ball.
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 2 месяца назад
Jones is a half back. The club has tried to turn him into a pressure forward or wing. Its not going to work. Play him half back and allow Duggan Hunt and Hough for runs on the wing. If Ginbey is sore as he clearly is, then put him down back for a while. He will learn important defensive skills and may find his spot. He is only in his second year remember. Compare him to Fyfe's and Cripps early years (and Ginbey won't end up winning a Brownlow). Chesser probably needs a break in WAFL. He is an inside mid and not a wing. Fact. Witherden is on his last year, I don't mind him. He does give the option to play the Coles Hunts and Duggans up the ground. Could Cole be a pressure defensive half forward? They need to try a bit. Hopeless to just stack the defence and leave the rest of the team exposed. Opposition teams just kick over the defenders heads. We need real pressure in the middle. Most importantly, youthful enthusiasm required. So a few debutants in future weeks.
@sleekism23
@sleekism23 2 месяца назад
@@BDub2024 Jones cannot play in the back line. A. He cannot defend 1on1 and gets exposed when this happens. B. His disposal is shocking and regularly misses easy targets. Maybe one of those you can cover over, but not both.

@@sleekism23 Jermaine Jones should be in the starting 18 in defence. Sure he is short but he brings pace, run and goes down the middle on the left foot. Quick movement is essential. It is his position, and it allows Hough Hunt Cole and Duggan to move up the field where they are badly needed. Jones just doesn't play good footy up forward or on a wing. We are so desperate to have good midfielders and instead we're stacking our defence with our best performing players. Rohan Jones was a poor kick. But Jermaine is good.

Whoever was the guy who said Ginbey was a gun needs to be shown teh door. The guy looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. Huge log of a man who is doing 4/5ths of fuck all right now. Unless they can convert him into an attacking half back flanker he might turn out to be one of the biggest duds in the clubs history. We passed on Harry Sheezel for this guy and Hewitt!! That is unforgiveable, sorry.. that cant be allowed to slide. Some one should be sacked for that decision.

There’s is not one positive from the game. We are a corporate team and that’s all. All that Pike has done since joining us is live in the past. We’ve announced more memorabilia from our 90s-2000s teams than ever and basically just ignoring the fact we clearly over rate our players. If I hear one more person say ‘play the youth’ I’ll go watch mixed netball as my sport of choice. Our youth doesn’t even put up a fight against WAFL players. I’m sick of Simmo having his mates playing over actual kids. We will loose Culley, Maric Williams for blokes that just get a game regardless of form. Can’t wait to drop a young bloke to bring in gaff and Sheed. We are a joke
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 2 месяца назад
All sides are corporate. I think with the season about to turn ugly, youth will provide the enthusiasm and energy that may just kick start the players again. They're struggling to win contested ball, sides have worked out their ball movement. The kids and the old men are sore. Predictably. They need a sugar fix, so I'd be picking the youngsters and even gift someone a debut game. But I agree generally, that the fans say pick the kids. But then don't want to lose by 100.

Change the stale coach - I guess you cant put a decent review of hawks game - start focusing on getting a new coach for 2025 - only our worst enemies would say keep. him - yes the game was embarassing - but your loyal support of simpson is even more embarassing - why we play so badly the coach is stale - just acknowledge you are wrong! Injuries was just an excuse - there is no excuse for lack of effort except for poor coaching.

i don't think he's stale because he really got the team playing full of heart for the first half of the year. Remember over east they didn't think we would win a game. But his weakness is a lack of flexibility and is fixed in his views of players.
