Apparently they do sometimes fly away, since Kate put a wireless tracking device on the two falcons before letting them loose. But if they're well trained, they return because they know they'll get food, and they're used to living with the falconer.
I loved the ending story and its great example of proper sportsmanship. The lady seems like a good teacher with great calm energy, passion for the subjects, and very easy to talk to. I hope that when I'm able to set up for falconry that I can find a teacher who's style is similar to this lady.
that hognose is not part of the viper family he's in a coulubrid family. vipers have huge hinged fangs coulubrids usually have them in the back of their jaws
The hood is essential for most falcons. About 85% of a raptors brain is their eyesight. It is no more cruel than turning off your television when you go to sleep. After a busy day of flying, you will find that your falcon will put her head into her hood
so sorry sir, may I have your guidance, please. I know in general, the female eagle tend to be larger as compare to a female eagle, but may I ask, between a male eagle vs a female eagle, which is more quieter and which is more noiser? a male eagle OR a female eagle? please reply as I need the answer as soon as possible, and million thanks sir.
I SO wish I lived closer to West Coast Falconry. I'm way down in Ventura county. I've heard the most amazing things about Kate. I'm at a point now that I honestly don't know if I'm going to pursue falconry. If I could have a sponsor like Kate I think I would! The last minute of the video, her story is what I thought falconry was. Everything in this video is what I thought falconry was. But then I joined a facebook group and from what people talk about, it's much more focused on hunting and killing. NOT the chase. NOT the time spent with the bird. When I've asked about it they all say that they are extremely disappointed if their bird didn't kill something. A great day is multiple rabbits killed. Of course I'd expect a raptor to kill something. I'm not bothered by a bird hunting. I just get different impressions of the sport from different people. What is done in this video looks like heaven to me. But I've been told by so many falconers that falconry is hunting. Period. it's all about hunting. So I'm getting very different impressions. The other thing is the making me reconsider pursuing the sport is the the idea of dispatching. I just don't know if I could do it. One woman falconer told me she has to dispatch an animal almost every single time she hunts. Don't get me wrong, I realize if a bird is just not killing its prey, it's much kinder for the falconer to put the animal out of its misery. But the idea of just taking a bird out to hunt and me doing the actual killing just isn't appealing to me. Anyway, sorry for rambling to anyone who bothered to read this. This was a wonderful video and if I ever get to West Coast Falconry's neck of the woods, I'll be paying a visit for sure!
what did she just say? a pit viper? a type of pit viper. well thats new to me. sea snakes yes, you can swim right up to them and they swim right along with you.
Western Hognose! They're actually relatively common in the pet industry, though not the best snake for beginner reptile keepers due to the fact that they are venomous (though unlikely to bite humans or cause any real damage due to their rear-facing fangs)
And what's up with the "pure peregrine"? How could she possibly know that?! It's virtually impossible to determine that in this day and age. There are 19 subspecies of the peregrine and the three most common ones being the Anatum (which she incorrectly pronounced), the Tundra and Peales are even mixed races for the past 20 years because of assisted breeding introduced by the need to mix-breed in order to save the species from extinction. Other than that, nice vid and love the Harris.
The Hawk family ,Like the Harris Hawks and Red tails for instance you can use Eagles but they a lot harder to have for many reasons ,Falcons generally hunt Birds but a large falcon might take a Rabbit
