Fun fact: the Bellingham Bells' mascot is a hamster. Why? Because people who live in Bellingham refer to themselves as Bellinghamsters, just as people from New York calls themselves New Yorkers.
Thanks for the shout-out for my hometown of Port Angeles, WA. Yeah, Civic Field isn't great. But it's still home. Also, Nanaimo is pronounced "nuh-NYE-moh".
Went there several times, last time last season against the harbourcats. Indeed it's not great, but I think the view on the Olympics from the main stand is quite spectacular! 🤗
Thanks for doing this video. The WCL is a little known league that doesn't get the respect it deserves. I'm going to a Pickles game this July and I'm familiar with the neighborhood.
As someone who lives in the area, I can help clear up a few things... -the orange and blue seats at the RORC (as it's commonly known out here) is a reference to Ridgefield's high school. They share the field with the Raptors and are known as the Spudders. -The Pickles have a 'minor league' team called the Gherkins. They play in the Wild Wild West League (which was made during the pandemic). -Springfield is *technically* the newest member of the WCL as they joined last season. I say technically because the three Canadian expansion teams (Edmonton, Kamloops and Nainamo) joined in 2020 and 2021 respectively, but the pandemic pushed everything back for all three teams. -The WCL has some well known alumni in MLB. For my team, Cowlitz, the best known player in MLB from the team is Cleveland pitcher Shane Bieber.
"-The Pickles have a 'minor league' team called the Gherkins. They play in the Wild Wild West League (which was made during the pandemic)." This is the best thing I"ve read all month
What a nice surprise this video was! I live near Portland and have played in quite a few of these stadiums. This summer I’m playing for a smaller team that’s owned by the Pickles
Glad to see Bend in one of your videos! I’ve been waiting on this video for a while now! Love going to see games at Vince Genna and sitting right next to the away dugout to harass the other team
i used to love playing games there in the summer! used to know the old owner back in 2000. i had the honor of being the beer batter a few times haha. so fun to be playing 3B or LF and having the fans trying to get you to strike out. like offering beer after the game if i would strike out for them. great times.
Great video! The Cape Cod League would be a great idea in a similar vein- all 10 stadiums are on or right off of Cape Cod, some are in the woods, some near the beach, at least one is shared by a high school team.
Futures College Baseball League has the best ballparks of most College Summer leagues hands down. I wish they would bring back a team to Old Orchard Beach in Maine it’s a great venue that doesn’t host a team.
Staying with the trend of college summer league baseball. The Cape Cod Baseball League(CCBL), New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), and the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). All are located in New England and have a great variety of stadiums. The cape cod league historically one of if not the best summer league in the country in terms of talent and alumni in the major leagues.
Looks like the West Coast League is one that's a summer league for college players. I mention this because in my area of North America, there's a similar kind of league. If you're able to, look at the ballparks of the Northwoods League, which has teams mainly in a few midwest states. However, the team in my hometown is the lone Canadian entry in it, that being the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
@@neilwhitaker6284 The Pit Spitters are in that league, but they've only been around since 2019. The Thunder Bay Border Cats first played in the league in 2003, but are returning this year after a hiatus caused by pandemic restrictions.
@@bluebear1985 I see, I lived in Onterrible until 2021 until I left to get away from the coof lockdowns and never heard of the league or the Thunder Bay Border Cats! I suppose outside of the towns where teams are it doesn't get much media coverage.
@@neilwhitaker6284 I'm not sure if it's going to this year, but it did get some coverage on ESPN+ last season for a few games. The rest of them are on the league website as far as I know. I'll be doing some work for the Border Cats again, so I may find out soon what's going on for sure.
View from the 3rd baseline seats at Re/Max Field is up there with any in baseball. 3 bridges (2 that light up) with the sun setting behind them is beyond belief with a beer bat in hand.
Never expected to see this league displayed in your videos. I live in Eugene, Oregon and have hit home runs in all of the Oregon ball parks in my playing days. I particularly loved played at that Portland ballpark. The trees were the best background to hit off of. I hit a home run off of Tom Gorman there.
i loved playing at walker and sckavone! i was saying in another post how i hated hitting as a righty against a lefty at walker. the scoreboard used to be in CF and the lefty release point was in the lights of the scoreboard for me. i couldnt pick up the ball until it was like halfway there.
My backyard! Ridgefield seats are orange and blue because that is the colors of the local high school, with a great mascot... Ridgefield Spudders. I believe there are new seats in Wenatchee, but the Kingdome lives on at a bunch of different high school stadiums around Washington. W.F. West HS in Chehalis has some in the football stadium. Tahoma HS has bleachers from the upper deck. Snohomish HS has seats at both the softball and baseball fields.
A huge thanks for making this video! I do remember that I've suggested this league stadiums to you after going to a game in Port Angeles, even if I thought they'd be way too small to make a video! Well, you proved me wrong!
Go beavs! Your channel is one of my favorites and I'm beyond stoked Goss has made a video. Great shoutout, one of the oldest continuous use ballparks in the world!!
team is called the lefties so he is implying that rural Mississippi is more right wing or conservative and they would be triggered by the name "lefty" as in left wing socialist. He is correct that it is a more conservative region but the joke fell a bit flat imo.
7:16 has incorrect label, though correctly introduced in the video voice over and graphics. Pretty cool seeing my little town's little stadium on this channel, fun taking a look at these smaller minor leagues.
played at walker stadium for three years while in college. before the remodel and the pickles. 100% the best thing is they moved the scoreboard more to right center. it used to be positioned so that most lefthanded pitchers would release the ball and you couldnt see it as a righty because of the numbers on the scoreboard. played in a fair amount of these stadiums over the years. most of them really carry a vibe of being in like rookie or short a ball somewhere. my home college field was borleske stadium before it was fixed up by the sweets. it is pronounced boar less ski
My family that emigrated from England and my family from England struggle with pronouncing names that come from Native words. I grew up here so it comes easier to us. Nanaimo is pronounced nun-AYE-MOH with emphasis on the aimo. We have a dessert here called Nanaimo bars that are like some sort of mult-layered fudge bar and they are moorish. Kamloops is pronounced kam-LOOOPs. I am certain I would struggle with Australian Aboriginal names there is no shame in it.
Is this a college summer league? I live near Muzzy Field in Bristol Connecticut and it’s the field that Babe Ruth hit his first ever recorded Home run it’s older but a nice park to watch games in the NECBL.
I hope the Western Canadian Baseball League stadiums will be coming soon. There are few nice parks and I do PA announcing at one of them (I'm sure he will mispronounce the town for sure).
9:18 Lacrosse still is a national sport of Canada - as of 1994, it's the official summer sport of Canada (not surprisingly, hockey is the national winter sport).
more like PIL. the PIL is still around but is pretty much just teams from the seattle/everett area now. the WCL came in and basically took over and expanded on what the PIL was doing. i believe the PIL had Bend Elks, "Aloha Knights" Wenatchee Applesox, Bellingham Bells from the now WCL. they all switched over around 2004 or so. The Seattle Studs were in the PIL then and are still in the PIL now.
