Regarding Anglo / Scottish services it wasn't until 1863 when they could call at Preston as a stop to allow passengers to dine in the station dining room.
The station itself has had several rebuilds in its history firstly in July 1880 which most of station still remains intact to this day,
Other rebuilds occurred in 1903 and in 1913 when station had 15 platforms although nowadays thee are only 7 in use
During both World War I and World War II a free buffet was provided for the servicemen
The East Lancashire Platforms was demolished after its closure in 1972
Today a mixture of Intercity and local services are provided by Avanti West Coast to and from London Euston to destinations such as Glasgow Central, Edinburgh as well as few trains a day to and from Blackpool North which the latter two and Edinburgh going via Birmingham New Street
Class 390 Pendolinos having just had their mid life refurbishment by Alstom provide most of the services although in the coming months towards the end of 2024 and early 2025 new 7 car Class 807 Everos will share some of the Class 390 services with Birmingham New Street, Liverpool Lime Street and Blackpool North.
Northern electric services provided to and from Blackpool North originate to and from Manchester Airport via Bolton and Liverpool Lime Street via St Helens Central and occasionally Newton-le-Willows nowadays operated by Class 331s.

The carriages are MK5s and are hauled by Class 73s for non electrified routes to and from Edinburgh and then a Class 92 locomotive takes over to London Euston
In the future Grand Union Trains in June 2025 will provide 5 return services a day between London Euston and Stirling which at the time of filming its not known what trains will be used although its hinted in the short term will be Class 22x workings either some from the Avanti 221s being replaced by Class 805 Everos or potentially Class 222 Meridians which are due to start being replaced by Class 810 Auroras on East Midlands Railway from January 2025.
