Hey Lee, thanks for sharing. Nice set! I truly understand why you're so into the German military stuff 😉 This Pickpott is legendary, I got myself a genuine Bundeswehr surplus one when I was a Teenager. That was about 30 years ago. Used for camping with my friends, cooking stew on a bonfire, and mixing up alcoholic beverages too 😅😅😅 holy cow 😁
@@outsidertank hahaha true mate, all your wee videos are inspiring me to get out with my different mess kits again 😉, I’m stuck offshore till next week 🙈
Heya Lee , german vintage gear yeah yeah yeah 😀 by the way : the kidney shape is: to place the mess tin close to an oven pipe As allways ... wtb from Germania Juergen
Last year I found a few of those for sale at the hardware/military surplus store. $20 U.S. I haven't put it in/over actual fire, but I did cook a pot of spaghetti on the kitchen stove top at maximum, and it performed well. It's too big to fit in my Bundeswehr mountain Jager rucksack... it's more for recreational camping with my "SO", no more than 100m from the car. For SHTF... we'll "cook" with a Trangia mess tin (appx 2/3rd size of British Army mess tin), canteen cups, and a BCB Firedragon stove. Enjoyed your video as always
Excellent review! Thanks for sharing. I used the East German version for many years. A while ago I found a Swiss Army mess kit and use it ever since. The big pot of the Swiss mess kit has a larger volume compared to the West and East German variants.
I've been looking at them on eBay but it's an original not repro one and have it saved in watchlist just haven't gotten round to buying it as didn't know if any gd ..... great vid and helped me make up my mind on buying it cheers, im also a fan of German military gear and have a few bits of the clothing 🙏
The good old cooking set. also known as pig pot :-) . it´s common to take out the inner pot and put in some ingredients for soup or stews in there. important is, dont use metal cutlery, so the aluminium is save to use! Greetings from Germany!
