Again, in the match the pitch was the issue, the bounce was up and down, Chase and Powell got out to balls that bounce higher than they expected and some of the other batters got out to balls that kept lower than they expected. Rutherford's innings was what won the match along with the discipline bowling. Hope for Charles in the next match.

We said on the last few pods that as sure as night follows day, Boult would bowl Charles. Massive congratulations to the players for hanging in there and getting that important win. Kudos to the T&T crowd for coming out and creating an electric atmosphere. Nothing better than packed WI stadiums and WI winning.

Will update my comment in a bit - just about to go for a walk and listen to the episode but my impressions from that match. If you're going to have Johnson Charles at the top, the rest of the top orders batters HAVE to perform. We know he's going to fail 2/3 of the time so we can't afford a collapse all the way to number 5 and 6. If not, just pull him out and put in someone else that won't have the firepower but can maybe add stability. His fielding is also a liability but I worry more about his batting. Although Shepherd has improved vastly over the past year or two, we cannot bowl him at the death right now. Save him for the middle overs or give him one over spells in between other bowlers. He almost lost us the match (a scenario I've seen multiple times before specifically from him)...if one more 6 went over the ropes earlier in the over we would've been in serious jeopardy of losing the match. No reason to have a lower order batsman just casually clappin you for 6 back to back like that.

Rutherford is good enough to take down any bowler. So you have to give it to him, if Kane Williamson can say it was a world class knock then, you just have to give it to the man.

That game caused a lot of hypertension! But hats off to the bowlers, they’ve been carrying this team. When are the batsmen going to turn up. What I said about this match, played out. Also, I hear many parroting what I’ve been saying about Afghanistan. I’m not confident yet, changes need to be made, drop Charles and Chase, bring in S. Joseph and S. Hope. 🇰🇾🇰🇾🇰🇾

Machel I agree with you 100% about Charles and I'm a Lucian. He's playing affects the dynamics of the squad. He wouldn't be dropped in st. lucia because of the whole situation with him having the main stand named after him and there will be a uproar towards sammy if he drops him. On the situation with nz trying to bowl out WI i agree with Williamson. It was a game of chess. Rutherford innings was 🔥 🔥. Good captaincy won us the game, i see some ppl saying sammy is the coach and not a player because he was on the boundary talking to powell

Rutherford batted smartly last night and showed real tactical nous by noticing that the Black Caps were going to be two bowlers short at the death and that's when he chose to attack. What I like about yesterday's match was the fact that our lower order had time in the middle which can aid us in future matches if need be. About Shepherd: why, after seeing our pacers bowl back of a length will he bowl full, enabling Santner to get underneath the balls and deposit him for 6s?

I think initially we thought this World Cup would have produced higher scores and decided to leave out our best batsman because of strike rate concerns etc. It has now become clear that this tournament requires more clinical batsmen, who can pick the gaps, run well between the wickets, and dispatch the bad balls, regardless of the conditions. It was a mistake to exclude a second opener, but Johnson Charles is not the batter WI need, especially as the level of opposition and the overall stakes increase. I’ll take Hope every day of the week. We have enough hitters to finish the job, but we need some stability at the top.

Pivotal knock from Rutherford, Motie and Alzarri all in all a complete performance we all are grateful for as fans NZ got pooran’s number, same short ball Boult bowled at him in the ODI WC 2019, and southee executed this time! I agree Williamson was wrong to bowl Boult there. He thought if he out RreRus game done but they forget WI has batting to actually 11, cause Motie can bat. He was to squeeze Santer 1 over earlier. I was at the game that Mitchell and Santer should have been squeezed in before. Rutherford did great to wait for the last two to go. I remember the first ball of the 19 he refused a single and the next ball he hit a 6 and we went crazy and i realized he was locked in. HAHAHA

Honestly I don’t think our batting has been that good so far in this tournament. We’ve needed late heroics in all 3 games to get us over the line, or to a par score. The same old issues persist, particularly with the openers and top order. So I really, really, want them to give Hope a go against AFG. I pray he shows us something, and makes Sammy make a decision about Johnson Charles. If we carry him into the Super 8s we’re not making the semis I promise you 😢

You send Chase up the order in case their is a collapse. And use his bowling when the conditions and match-up suit him. Dhoni, in CSK's peak years, would often not use a player in the 11 at all in the match if the match situation didn't need him

Went to the game last evening, David Rudder performing the anthem was such a great vibe. It was a real roller coaster game but we found a way. Going to St Lucia game for the Afghanistan game. #rallyhard. I like Ruddy innings but the batting was bad. The bowling really was dominant. The crowd gave Charles the bizniss, a straight cussout in BLCA. Maybe Hope comes in but is St Lucia sooo 🤷🏾‍♂️??? (which is folly) New Zealand played it right, kill the game when you can. If i have a chance to bowl you out, i take it 100/100.

People,the match is going to be played in St.Lucia,so Sammymight NOT drop Charles.The person that should be dropped should be POORAN or POWELL or even Hosein,but HOPE has to come but NOT to open...bring in Hetmyer for Pooran and let Hope keep and I would bring in Shamar Joseph for Hosein since the WI have so far gotten away by playing two left arm spinners when only one SHOULD be playing.Chase is NOT a #4 T20 player...#5 0R 6 IS MORE SUITABLE or if the WI lose 3 or 4 quick wickets he can come in earlier to stabilize things instead of trying to be a power hitter.

This is the most confused I've ever seen you 2 guys. Charles seems to be a liability Most of the batters are failing 1 powerplay bowler No death bowler No reasonable batting plan. What did I say that was a lie? Are you saying the end justifies the means? Or does victory sanitize the truth? Is Charles doing well? Who is our death bowler? Aren't we dropping catches Are you satisfied with our shot selection Wasn't the bowling criticised because of the stats at death and the powerplay? That's why Obed was brought in. If they lose I'm sure you would be the most critical. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism it is what helps the process instead of passive aggressive attacks based on euphoria. Why not ask for the strengths 1) we play well in our conditions 2) we bowl excellent in the middle overs 3) we have a great unifying coach 4) we have a very good captain 5) we bat deep 6) our spinners are good 7) Alzarri is a genuine wicket taker for all the criticism against him People like you only turn up when we are winning. RALLY...Round d windies. Big comeback. Tough on Charles, but when last he made runs in Trinidad or Guyana? Alzarri bowled like a big man sharing licks! I could of choked Pooran for that missed run out, but the caught behind was a tough chance to take. Powell playing the Sammy role to perfection (picked as captain and offer nothing), Akeal and Motie are going win us the title. Great game, and it's not our best game (teams should be on high alert)!

You missed that every 5 overs our run rate was increasing where theirs were decreasing every 5 overs . So we were increasing in our innings while they were decreasing.
