A total of 1223 of "New Cadets" from all 50 states and 14 allied countries arrived at the US Military Academy on Monday 2, 2018 to begin their 47 month journey to graduation and commissioning.
Ken Kraetzer of Sons of the American Legion Radio participated in a tour as the upperclassman directed and instructed the "New Cadets" from station to station as they were issued equipment, the men got their haircuts, reported to "Cadet with Red Sash" and all learned the basics of being a soldier.

I was one of the cadet candidates that did NOT make it past R-Day 2018 - I was medically disqualified due to my allergies and forced into taking a gap year. I'll be attending USC this fall instead. I've been documenting my gap year on my channel and it would mean a lot if any one of you would check it out.

Technically yes for female, but it is almost a necessary to have the upper body strength in order to get through west point

joel peacock honestly, it is just if they enlisted and entered basic training. Cadets at West Point are their own category or rank in Army.

joel peacock You are right. Real military training is much more tough and exhausting. Some of these new cadets would be washed out at any time during the next four years. However, they would be more mature as time goes by if they survive. Now, I am an army colonel at Taiwan, Republic of China, but the basic training (11 weeks) for new cadets 30 years ago is still a nightmare for me. God bless these boys and girls.

joel peacock Yes they are members of the US Army. They take an oath, and are under jurisdiction of military justice. Cadets at West Point have their own classification in the US Army.

OK at 5:11 why are there no GIRLS getting buzz cuts and I know they will do less PT so nothing changes does it ?

Female cadets cam choose their hair length but must pin up when in uniform. Female cadets do same amounts of PT, many are varsity athletes, play rugby, or compete in triathlons.
