I know what that meant. I live in FLorida and work in law enforcement. I met and worked with the first African American police officers hired in the 1960s. They were pioneers. They were only assigned to black neighborhoods. Their arrest powers were limited to arresting black people. If they saw a white person commit a crime they could only detain and had to call a white officer to make the arrest. When they got hired, many white racist cops quit the job cause they didn’t want to work with them. The city opened up the black police precinct to keep them away from white officers. So yeah the water was deep and it’s still above their heads.

2:15 is the most important line in this scene. Good cops know who the bad cops are. They cover for the bad cops or turn a blind eye to what's going on, which in turn, makes good cops bad cops as well. Culture is the most powerful element in any social system and the culture inside policing is the biggest problem. You can not legislate culture away and no code of conduct can properly influence it. It is protected by the highest ranking officer down to officers on patrol. Until this is truly understood there is no fixing policing.

@@KingYuma_ Well, the story can extend beyond our protagonists' place of work; he could always go home, begin a lawsuit and eventually commence a killing spree like Christopher Dorner. He could face unemployment and willingly quit himself, only to become a vigilante, he could face unemployment, work the problem out, and then leave when the contradictions of his work become clear after the dust has settled. I think that this creates a story more dynamic and yet more grounded, or a situation more improbable, despite being more sound. Any show that can pull this off has my respect. But for me, I take less pleasure in watching feel-good copaganda than I could take from any other genre of improbable fiction. Especially since it's so surreal. On a tangent now, there are things wrong with this scene that could be corrected to make a more relatable scene for say, law enforcement officers watching this. Everyone in that office could hardly stand him and knew what type of person he was yet like West said here they just allowed it to go on. If it wasn’t for Jackson being there Stanton prolly would’ve killed a whole family for a false accusation, remember he pulled an actual gun on them for trying to defend their innocent son who is terrified cause he was just minding his business and got tackled and getting cuffed without any explanation of why. Then Stanton angry and either too stubborn or crazy to admit he was in the wrong got mad when they try to make things right with the family talking about “these people don’t respect the law” like bro fr believed that badge give him a free pass to hurt or arrest whoever. See and thing is there’s actually officers like this irl and that scares me that at any moment me or my little brother or any of my family would get profiled like that and a cop like Stanton would get a slap on the wrist for it while our family is traumatized and appalled that something like that happened to us.

I hate how sergeant told them before if they felt someone was bad after Armstrong they should go to him and yet when they do, this is what the treatment they get. No wonder Nolan and Harper went behind everyone’s back.

This scene always did make me dislike Sgt. Grey. Like sure, have emotional control and respect the rules/procedures in your role as sergeant, great. But gosh-darnit, if you are going to spend more energy lecturing and confidently dictating to a young man about “whose shoulders you stand on”, and shrugging-off his observations as just “a lot of cops feel that way”, then you are only further assisting the issue, AND NOT helping to resolve it. Especially since (beyond the ethnic aspect of this), the entire family of a random person (who DID NOT fit the description) was harassed! L-move sir, L-move.

It’s honestly disturbing how hard people like Sgt Grey will defend bad cops. I don’t get why he immediately dismiss everything Jackson was saying. And saying “a lot of cops think that way” like that makes it okay??? Obviously I know this is just a show but this exact thing happens a lot.

THIS IS REAL... the fact that cops do these things in real life is scary. I don't wanna be anything affiliated with a cop because I don't wanna end up on the wrong side of things trying to take down racists and violent people. I mean a whole department can stage my death and I wouldn't even see it coming... plus that would be the only job I qualified for as I'm also a veteran and this country doesn't like hiring war vets

most times shows pick actors/actresses that are so popular because it throws the viewers out of their comfort zone. watching someone who is well known to be tolerant being someone so out of character drives the root of the situation home that anyone can be this way

I think people don’t understand how frustrating it is to see that racism is something we don’t punish. We literally punish homelessness like literally someone not having or being in a home is now being criminalized. But something like racism that is 100 percent harmful, isn’t. Just some bs as PoC it’s all bs

I didn't like how they killed him but now I'm glad he's gone. He got the racist cop ark he wanted and still complained enough that he forced himself an exit from the show. Good character and story ark but terrible actor

Jackson is a complete joke in third season. He was a token character for representation in first two seasons, but he had his few moments to shine, but in the third he completely turns into a fucking tool for creators for apeal to poc/gay/etc. He's not a fucking character at this point. This is one of the reasons why i hate third season so much.

Jackson is probably the last person who should be talking about silence when this is the same dude that froze twice on the job and the other cops brushed it off and covered up for him.
