I am experiencing the same problem. I have an Xbox Series S, the 512 GB version. However, I can only use 360 GB of the space, and I’m tired of constantly deleting games to install new ones. I researched whether I could use regular SSDs. I learned that I can play games without the X/S logo that I loaded onto the SSD, but to play games with the X/S logo, I need to transfer them back to the main console and then play them. My main question is this: Does the WD Black C50 SSD have the same issue? Can I play all games, whether they have the X/S logo or not, without having to transfer them back to the main console?
Yes. You can install and play any type of game on the SSD. It should give you the same read and write performance as your internal drive. Games that have been optimised for the Xbox X and S need fast SSDs, which is why they can't be played from older USB 3.0 drives.
Anything in tech can be faulty, but SSDs are generally reliable. Is your storage area not showing the drive at all? There's not much to do during installation beyond inserting it, switching your Xbox on and choosing what to do with the drive. So if that doesn't work, you may need to return it or exchange it.
The price of these are way too much in comparison to NVME drives. I love the plug and play side of these but looking back MS should have done what Sony did. I saw a 2tb nvme a few days back for cheaper than a 1tb WD Black
Agreed. I hate how expensive they are. It's the reason why I waited so long to buy one as I didn't want to spend so much on a drive that can only use be on an Xbox. I now have 2TB of storage (well a little less after formatting). I honestly think that's the bare minimum now if you want to keep several games installed.
