I'm an HBA2 and while I agree 100% with everything you said, I would have preferred a more objective assessment. This felt more like an Ivey recruitment presentation as opposed to an honest review. Speaking about the culture in Ivey (very privileged and private school), the difficulties and pressures that come with maintaining AEO, going over the fact that many pre-Ivey courses mandate a 65-70% class average, the party culture (the positives and negatives), etc. I personally love Ivey and would never regret my decision but it is important to incoming students to include that information!
Hi! Recently I have been accepted into ivey AEO! I have a few questions I would like to ask! 1. my main concern as well as many other AEO students is maintaining an 80% in those first two years. Correct me if I’m wrong but as long as you get at least an 80% the status will not be lost? Or are we competing with other AEO students for the spots still? 2. I heard that Ivey can reject those who still were able to maintain the requirements. What would some reasons be? 3. As someone who has little to no background in business (did not take any business courses), will this affect my success in the ivey program? I want to do something in business however I am very lost and unsure what career I want to pursue. Thank you so much!
Hello. Can you please explain what students end up graduating with in the event they secure their spot in Ivey, but do not meet requirements for their intended 5+yr dual degree? My daughter will be starting in engineering and her intent is to graduate with the dual Eng/HBA but if she doesn't get into that combo stream, what would she actually graduate with following 2 years of engineering plus 2 years of Ivey HBA? Would she have an HBA or an HBA plus something like a certificate/ minor in engineering that recognizes the first two years of study? Thanks.
Hi Krisha, eng + hba would be an incredible combination. If your daughter did not get into the combo stream, and instead did 2 years of eng + 2 years of Ivey HBA, she would graduate with an Honours of Business Administration with a Specialization in Engineering. This is still a very strong combination from an employer perspective. Especially for management consulting, supply chain/logistics, and product management (of course, depending on what engineering specialization she does).
I’m graduating this year, looking at a few business programs including Ivey, do I just join HBA1 in my third year or is there a course/average requirement I have to meet to get in?
There are two paths to getting into Ivey; Advanced Entry Opportunity (AEO), and Non-AEO. The first method, AEO, is a status given to students entering first-year university who demonstrated both academic and leadership excellence in high school, giving these students a seat at Ivey in their third year. How this would work is you enter Western University in any of the programs offered (Social Science, Health Science, etc.) for your first two years, and if you maintain an 80%+ average (78%+ for Engineering) along with extra-curricular involvement, you would begin the HBA Program in your THIRD year at Western. The other path is Non-AEO, which is less common, but still very realistic. This path allows the student to apply after their second year of university and be considered against other non-AEO students, and those AEO students who lost their status by not maintaining their grade requirement. The Non-AEO path is definitely more challenging from an academic standpoint, usually requiring a mid-to-high 80s average in university, along with solid extracurriculars. The 80%+ (78%+ for Engineering) average requirement is definitely a tough challenge, but the reward for studying hard, staying dedicated, and maintaining the high academic standing Ivey looks for is unbelievably worth it in the end. Furthermore, a large number of incoming HBA1 students are actually those who did not perform well in their first year and lost their AEO status. If you fall into this bucket, no need to worry! You can apply after your third year, using your second- and third-year averages once you have gotten more accustomed to university life. However, if you go this route, you will be applying with other students who lost their AEO status and student who didn’t have AEO to begin with, so you will have to work extra hard! You can do it! Quick qn is there any possibility to get in to IVEY HBA year 1 directly from highschool? Like without spending 2 years doing any program we like in other universities or western itself?

I’m a bit confused for getting into Ivey. If I want to get in through aeo, what do I apply for when I apply for uni? do I apply for the aeo program and maintain my average? Also, what major did u study befor Ivey?
Don't worry, you're not the only one. On OUAC, you apply to any program at Western. You don't have to take BMOS, it can be any program they offer. Then, mark 'yes' on the button stating 'Ivey Advanced Entry Opportunity'. If you miss that, you won't be able to apply to AEO. If you are granted AEO, you have two years to maintain an overall two-year average of 80% (or 78% if you're in Engineering). If you go below that, you must complete a separate appeal application. I believe it's a video interview (Adrian would know). I don't believe majors are offered at Ivey HBA. It's only a two-year program, so it just doesn't offer the time one would need to specialize in a particular business discipline. However, after HBA, Adrian took an MSc in Business Analytics at Ivey. That's a Master's program, so it's more specialist. He graduated Gold Medalist for finishing with the highest academic average in the program.
Hey I just received my Ivey aeo status. If I'm being honest I just applied to see if I could really y get in and now that I accomplished that everything is so surreal. I have been doing a lot of research trying to weigh out the pros and cons. I guess what I am asking is was Ivey worth it for you, especially at the expensive cost I am a bit worried it may not be the right choice for me
Congrats Tomi on your status. Let's try to unpack your question. What do you want out of your university experience (i.e. what is valuable for you?)? Is it getting the highest paying job possible... if so, in what industry are you thinking... Is it building a great network... is it having an incredible four years of self-growth and development... let us know more about what "worth" means to you in an educational context and that will help.
@@youthfully thanks for the quick reply. I am really interested in pursue a dual degree in both law and business. In fact that was one of the reasons I applied for Ivey because I heard they offer that selection. I think coming out of university I definitely want a high paying job and to have made life long beneficial connections.
@@tomikomolafe6215 Ivey is already very condensed into 2 years, so no co-op. You'll only get one summer between 3rd and 4th to have a good shot at an internship. Few students do so between 2nd and 3rd pre-HBA. Both Queen's and Ivey offer 6-year dual JD/BCom options. The only other JD/BCom program I am familiar with is at UOttawa and it's in French... otherwise, you could simply apply to law school in 4th year undergrad--most high grades students I know do this and go to UToronto or York for law school--but then you don't save the 1 year doing a dual degree. Also note that your decision may change once you're in university ... maybe you become very interested in management consulting, for instance. It's one of those decisions where you just need to do the research, weigh the pros and cons, reflect on what you truly want (not what others want for you), and feel convicted in your decision.
@@youthfully Last question, how good is westerns law school? Would it be smarter to finish Ivey with a hba and then apply to York or u of t? Or is the dual HBA/jd degree just as good plus you save 1 year
