No doubt that's the oldest loco that's ever pulled those CSX hoppers.

What a sight to see! Didn't know that these two iconic, first-generation diesels could still be seen in revenue service. I live by a NS mainline in IN and the only motive power ever seen consists of big six-axel GE AC44's nowadays.

They may have been a failure and hard to work on, but they most certainly were not ugly. The monon bl2 at the KRM is a beauty.

Many years I got to climb up into one of the BL2's. can't remember which one, it was in the shop at Bellington, WV next to a dollar store.

@thecarolinamudcat It was emd's weak attempt to make a competitor to alco's rs3 unit's in the branchline locomotive production. The BL2's were not maintenance friendly ugly and a complete failure. Alco still ruled with the RS series engines after this.

Yeah, well when EMD manufactured the GP-7 & the GP-9, it's designer thought of it as such an ugly diesel that no railroad fleet would want to purchase it. He thought wrong
