Following a loaded test run on a freight train in January, Class 52 D1015 Western Champion was put to a final test to complete her long awaited return to the mainline, hauling a one way railtour from London in collaboration with UKRailTours and Pathfinder tours.
The tour, acting as a loaded test run for the Class 52, would head out of Paddington towards Reading, Didcot and Oxford before reaching Birmingham via Leamington Spa & Coventry. The train would then head to Bescot yard for D1015 to detach, where the Class 57 on the rear would continue the tour to Birmingham New Street. This would be the first time in 8 years the loco had hauled a passenger charter on the mainline.
Before the tour itself, we catch D1015 at Hayes and Harlington on its move from its base at The Severn Valley Railway to meet the coaching stock at Paddington. The tour itself is then captured at Goring & Streatley, as 'Western Champion' roars through at speed with it's 13 coach load and dead 57 on the rear.
