Gunspinning refers to the Old West tradition and Hollywood tropes of a gunslinger twirling his handgun around his trigger finger. A Western art such as trick roping, sometimes referred as gunplay, gun artistry, or gun twirling. Gunspinning is in many TV and film Westerns, such as Shane and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
The majority of gun spinning is seen as a precursor to putting the gun back in its holster. Also used as a fancy ending to a trick shot, or to impress or intimidate an opponent.

Impressive, especially SDJ on LIVE TV! But as Doc showed Ringo in (unhistoric) Tombstone, fancy gun-twirling don't always cut it....

I've tried this but it never worked out. Terence Hill scenes are hilarious. It's just for show but it does look cool.

Ha! This one was so much fun. I love Sammy Davis Jr. How about one on James Garner?

Definitely Sammy Davis, he used a Colt 1873 cavalry model with a 7 and 1/2 inch barrel. The others used 4 inch, or fewer used 5 1/2 inch Barrel. All far easier to spin and draw than the 7 1/2 inch model. Jerry Lewis used the same long barrel model Colt in his performances, and was extremely fast.
