I am installing the new hook up boxes but I moved the electrical up in between the water hook ups. I cut the original extension cord to the length needed to reach it. As for the hole in the lower panel from the original box. I cut out the panel due to excessive rust and replaced it with a new panel. The rust was most likely caused by the old hook ups leaking around the old weathered gaskets. While I was at it I also replaced the left rear fender well. All that's left is undercoat the inside of the fender well and paint.

LOVED watching your Westy vids! Brings Back some great memories. In the early 90s, my wife and I had a '73 Westy during our BC period (before children). We were living in SF back then and our schedules were flexible enough to take month long road trips on occasion. I rebuilt and customized everything on it from a Baja style suspension, custom built cabinets and upholstery, swivel front seats, roof rack with cargo container on the pop top, AC over the front cabin, propane furnace, beautiful stereo, and a 2.0L engine swap. (done by Gandalf's Garage). It was florescent green with white top and was affectionately known as our lil Booger. Yes, it was a "challenge" keeping it on the road, but every time we pulled into an RV site, by sundown we'd have half the park coming over to visit and we'd all play one game or another well into the night. Priceless.

The best upgrade and the first anyone buying a Westy or any VW Van should do is a Subaru Swap. VW engines are notorious high maintance and $$$$$$. Go Subee u will Climb like a Goat get better MPG and maintance is a head gasket at 150k miles and that’s it. Bulletproof and Cheap to maintain.

TBH having owned 3 Westfalia Vangons over 2 decades. I would recommend the Toyota Chinook, more room, far better mpg, far more reliable and cheaper to fix.

I also did the fridge be gone but I put bach the vent over the the blank just to keep it looking original

What what is the silver disc for, did they say exhaust?

It covers up the hole in the side of the body which was used to vent the original fridge that came in the van. We have a different fridge and don't need that hole anymore

Nice upgrade! Are there lockable replacement covers for the city water and the water tank. I would be concerned that someone could contaminate the water in some manner, especially the tank. Or, do the quick connects provide such protection?

The quick connects would definitely make that harder to do as there are internal check valves which would need to be overcome. Not impossible to do, but not as simple as pouring something into the opening
