I've had three Westies - we lost two over the past year - down to one left - all have lived 15+ years - when our last one goes we will take a break and then get another for sure. Our kids grew up with them - learned how to care for a dog and then see them go to Doggie Heaven. Sigh - they are great dogs and will love you till' the end.
Yes, they will. I just lost my Angel Boy Mac last week. It broke me up.. He was just a few months shy of turning 16. He had a stroke that he just couldn't recover from, no matter how hard I tried. He was in his Mommy's arms when he went, so he knew I loved him till the end. I am still grief stricken. He was my baby boy. He's with Zöe now in Heaven, but I miss them both so badly.

The puppies always sound so funny when they roughhouse with each other. They sound like those old rubber band propeller planes you used to be able to get when you were a kid. This stuff never stops being funny- till one of the pups gets ahold of you with their mouths full of razor blades! OW! I sure was glad when Zoe grew out of that phase. I love to watch her play tag with her brother, Mac. They'll take their roughhousing all through the house and out onto the property. It's hilarious! Zoe's a bit camera shy, so maybe I should get a GoPro to make it easier to film their silliness for others to enjoy.

Yvonne Hudeg We had a beautiful girl Bonnie and she nearly made 16 but her little heart gave her grief , the mother just looks like our Bonnie and brought a tear to my eye.
How much did u pay for the westie? I had one he was old and had to put him to sleep three yrs ago. I miss him but i want to get another one but their too expensive.
I wouldn't recommend a westie to anyone even though I have one that I love. My dog is ten years old, and I love her very much, but it took many years to train her. She has become a part of the family though, so I wouldn't trade her for the world, but, especially if it's your first time getting a dog, one might prefer a dog that's easier to train and more loving. Westies are not very affectionate. If you're looking for a cuddle buddy, more than likely, a westie will not do the trick. In the end I guess that any dog can be great ha! They always find a way into your heart :)
Jeremiah Brand A westie is a terrier, they are not a passive lap dog. My past 2 boys and my now 13 1/2 y o lil girl, love and loved to cuddle. They loved to be pampered, dressed and groomed without a struggle. Training was easy breezy. Not affectionate, gosh Jeremiah, can't say that for any of mine :) They wash our faces with love :) Not sure you picked out the right pup for yourself. Sorry but they are ♥♥♥
+Jeremiah Brand The one dog I would recommend to anyone is a Westie! Brilliant dogs! So clever and affectionate, out westie Lola, is 11 months and is perfectly trained! She loves a cuddle and will do anything for our family, as long as we're happy, she's happy! Love the little things
I think they aren't that hard to train. but they are smart and u need to be very firm. imagine having a boy toddler. constantly running around yelling things. if ur not firm with him he will try to get over same with a westie. they are loud but they tire themselves out after a day so it's not like they do it all day. they are great dogs and durable. they were breed to hunt gophers so they are very durable. plus they will catch the rodents in ur home. I love my two westies. they are great dogs.
