I have been affected by this mess. I had to spend money for accommodation having stuck overseas. I might even lose a job opportunity that I was supposed to commence July 2nd.
Aircraft mechanics are infinitely more valuable than most jobs out there. As a frequent traveler not associated with this union, I'd rather them be paid fairly and go to work happy rather than be miserable, feel underpaid, and cut corners on aircraft maintenance. The finger should be pointed at execs and their bonuses quite frankly.
Unions drive up inflation, cost jobs, increase taxes, force us to tolerate behaviour that under any other circumstances would be illegal, (extortion) and foster a culture of greed and entitlement. When are we gonna learn, unions are NOT the good guys. We need to get rid of unions and implement stronger labour laws instead
Maybe WestJet management shouldn't be so greedy then. Perhaps dole back a bit on the bonuses their execs receive and they'd have no problem paying their staff fairly.
@@apelle92 Wow, do people think before they write? They make well above average with huge benefits and pensions! This isn't a fair wage? What's unfair is that they sat on their asses refusing to work until they get even more money, and wouldn't come back leaving thousands stranded until a huge, unearned raise of 26% was offered, not to mention increases to other already generous benefits, and yet somehow everyone else is greedy.
