2013 New Zealand Secondary Schools National Basketball Champs - Pool Game: Westlake Boys High School (in White) vs. Rangitoto College (in Blue).
The two eventual finalists for the 2013 National Championship met in Pool play. Westlake had to win by 4 to advance and win by 8 or more to come out of pool play as top seed. A loss or win by less than 4 would see Westlake eliminated.
A great game with some of New Zealand's best up and coming basketballers. All four quarters are posted on RU-vid.
Westlake featured Jaylen Gerrand (Tournament MVP), Jack Salt (NZ Tall Black & Breakers player, heading to Virginia for the 14/15 NCAA season). Rangitoto featured Luuk Witteveen (NZ Breakers player), Derone Raukawa (NZBL player) and Tai Wynyard (first Kiwi to be invited to the Jordan Brand Classic). All in all there were 13 NZ age group representatives involved in the game.
The final score was 84-73 to Westlake, claiming first place in their pool and going on to back-to-back National Championships beating Rangitoto, again, in the final.
Top scorer for the game was Westlake's number 7, Logan Hunt, the 16 yr old guard who dropped 26 points including a hot 4th quarter where he was hitting three's and taking it to the hoop. Enjoy!
