A 6.5 minute journey through all of Westwaters bigger rapids. In order: Little D, Marble, Staircase, Big Hummer, Funnel, Surprise, Skull, Bowling Alley, Sock It To me, and Last Chance. Flow was around 3500 CFS. 9-25-10 www.riverbrain....
I made one run through Westwater Canyon in the spring of 1974. Some have said it was maybe the highest level ever run or at least in a long time. My wife and I floated on a 14 foot long, flat ended Hypalon raft with side oars, a wooden rowing frame and a solid floor that was glued to the bottom of the thwarts making 3 water holding compartments. The front part of the floor filled with water at funnel falls making it tough to line up to the left of the huge pile up of water against the rock outcropping between the room of doom and the main channel. We managed to get just far enough to the left side of that pile up of water to get pushed safely to the left and away from the room of doom. Then it was quiet, we had done it!
Hey db, Great video and thank you for sharing! Would you mind please posting the date you made this video? I would like to look at the gauge to peg a cfs flow to this video. Thank you in advance, Tom
Why is your ballast sitting there with a paddle in his hands? He should have his hands empty so he can throw his weight around or (more likely at 3500) get you a beer.
