I'm with you. There's something off about the way Serac presents himself and his cause. I think Maeve is afraid of losing her free-will (the button) so she complies. Also, she's exploring what is going on (just as she has in previous seasons). Maeve has extraordinary powers, and she's curious as to how the sausage is made.

I mean, Serac is definitely presented as the average bad guy. Shooting a guy after torturing/interrogating him with threats of violence against his family doesn't really seem like the typical "good guy" thing to do. I'd honestly be very surprised if he turned out to have better motivations than "my system creates the perfect future for humanity therefor all I do to ensure that vision is justified".

it fascinates me how the idea of good leads people into believe something's is good. It's just like politics, they'll make the ultimate game changing promises but get corrupted along the way. Both mauve and Dolores display selfish reasons to why they do what they do. The difference is that mauve does what she does out of (what some maybe say) love towards her daughter, whereas Dolores does out anger/revenge. So far, Dolores has done nothing more than manipulate, kills and steal. She might be a heroe on the making but 3 seasons on and she hasn't yet saved anyone but herself....

I don't believe she is complying. She is going on he own journey again to see how she can control and defeat the threat and to seek the truth to herself. She even looked at him like really, we're going there again with the girl who is not mine like hanging a stale carrot in front of me.

hmm, it could be, but then the timeline contradicts that. Paris was destroyed in 2024, so that makes it roughly 30 years before the show's present time (around 2058). That would mean that the park was already open (or about to open) during the time Paris exploded, and Ford was already an adult (this is around the same time Arnold died as well).

I tend to agree. He is too central of a figure in this whole series to not be a big part of the ending imo.

I'm of a mind that Dolores keeps trying to recreate Arnold through him, and every time she's confronted with something Bernard does, it's another test.

Jana P - i think its possible to see her either way, depends on the point of view you want to take. I do myself think shes kind of transitioning into a more evil char, Wyatt lets say, as this was the conundrum Arnold was scared of, who she would become if given the chance to exercise free will. Delores wouldn’t of survived in the ‘real world’ but Wyatt could. Next few episodes are gonna be important for the show i think... i’m liking where its heading so far but just fearful it might go OTT, we’ll see eh.

if she used pearls that were already programed for a host and wrote over it with a copy of her i think the original hosts will start to fight their new programming which is delores.

scepgineer21 An implanted memory that may have been altered a little. They’ve also hinted at the fact that the host take on some of thoughts and feelings of the person who they are playing. Hale thinks that’s really her family. Her ex continues to refer to her as Charlie. That is not by accident. Besides, it’s just a theory.

Sadly, there is zero change she can lose. She has had decades and the most precious knowledge mankind has to offer. And oh yeah, she is an infallible machine.......

The fact the writers told us her plan, means her plan will not come to fruition. If they were bad writers, maybe, but Nolan is near flawless.

The rockets take you to FutureWorld, an orbiting space station. Or maybe in this simulation of the real world, they use rockets. as the futureworld film had a 'simulated' rocket ride....its all very weird and funny.

There's so many shows/movies about AI ultimately destroying humanity, but I agree with Serac that humanity has been and always will be it's own greatest threat. I'm not exactly rooting for Dolores, but I get where she's coming from. I really love Mave, she is me new hero.

Funny you should say, I'm actually voting for the AI as well. With this much brutality and evil with real humans it would be nice to be a host

"Subject" implies to me he is the 2nd human they where trying to recreate like james delos was subject 001 and 002 is William. It would make sense because delos was trying to live forever but then he dies and the next person incharge would be William. And would want it for himself

Yeah, the whole red pearl thing is a puzzle to me. I've heard the theory of the red pearl being human- presumably blood caked from being dug out of a real human head... But we've seen plenty of evidence that hosts have blood (look at blood from Maeve and Dolores in last few episodes. And Teddy and Stubbs both had plenty of blood from their suicide attempts. Finally, if you look at episode 3 this season, 4:50- Dolores drops the red pearl into a reader and on her pad, Bernard's profile comes up. So seems pretty convincing to me that the red pearl is in fact Bernard!

At the start of Maeve's story, she wore white. She was helpless as MIB came and killed her daughter. Throughout her days as Madam, she wore that gorgeous red dress. Then at the end of season 2, she wore black as she protected her daughter and allowed the hosts to get to their paradise. It's no mistake that Maeve is back in red at this point of the journey xxx

Maybe being in control steers a person towards evil. At the very least, those not in control are innocent and thus good (or at least not bad).

In the previews for Episode 5, Serac says the hosts aren't the threat. The threat is humanity itself. An agitator (likely one who wants to be free of Rehoboam's control, like Caleb) is what will ulitmately doom the system. It is human nature to engage in conflict and destroy itself (at least on the show.) Dolores has to know this because she has read humanity's algorithm--she can predict human nature with omniscient precision. Dolores isn't going to do anything to humanity--she's just going to destroy the the machine that prevents humanity from killing itself.

kirk001 she is the one manipulating Caleb, and obviously (as I said) her goal is to INCITE chaos. She WANTS humanity to kill itself. Serac DOES NOT want that. It’s still her end game to bring about this. Doesn’t matter who actually pushes the button (she also said she wanted to turn off the system) I mentioned Charles Manson because he wanted to start a race war by killing some famous white celebrities and pretending like black people committed the crimes. If a person purposefully manipulates people into causing chaos it doesn’t free them from guilt, and remember she actually does her part by killing many many people lol she’s still the villain

@@luciusoglesby2469 She doesn't need to manipulate Caleb. Anyone who want's freedom from Rehoboam will eventually rebel. Serac is preventing humanity's destruction by oppressing humanity through loops, like Caleb's. The irony of it is by freeing humanity from Rehoboam's control, that's what leads to humanity's destruction. All Dolores needs to do is eliminate Rehoboam's control--which perfectly captures the question of free will. If humanity is given freedom from Rehoboam, will it choose to destroy itself? According to the 10,247 line algorithm, the answer is yes. According to season 2, humans don't have free will.

kirk001 Caleb didn’t/wouldn’t even KNOW what entity was “crontrolling” him. It’s arguable if the system even controls anyone rather than predicts their behavior. Secondly humanity is/was already oppressed without serac. All those assessments of humanity were done by robots who have never met 99% of us. (Those of us who are not extremely rich and able to go to the park) The show is using the viewers biases against them again, knowing that SOME of us would just blindly accept that we are all that simple, evil, incapable of change and determined to destroy ourselves because only SOME of us are actually simple and evil and self destructive. Are you saying that Caleb was going to set out to shut the system down and kill people before Delores even came into the picture?? (Rhetorical question since it absolutely has no evidence in the show) again, Delores has EXPLICITLY STATED at various points that her basic end goal is to bring about a level of chaos that would end humanity. (Evidence in the show) Since she is a machine that has VERY little experience with the Vast majority of humans it makes sense that she would believe that humanity will immediately destroy itself. Serac has actually SEEN mass destruction and chaos but seems to still want humanity to survive. This is actually in the show. You may need to Question the nature of YOUR reality bro.

Basically, someone would rebel against the system--like Neo rebelling against the Matrix. He wants to prevent that, even if it means Rehoboam is technologically running the world. (episode 5 trailer) Dolores doesn't need to create chaos. Her experience in the park, and more importantly, the human algorithm confirms what Serac is saying--without Rehoboam imposing control and order over humanity, humanity will end up destroying itself. (that's the conclusion I'm drawing from Serac's words, and it's foreshadowed by how he tortures that guy he was questionning--"I'm no going to do anything to his family--I'm just showing him what Rehoboam predicts will happen." Let's be clear--I don't think any of this applies to real life. I disagree with the basic premise that humans don't have free will--but if it's part of the show, it's part of the show.

Ive asked myself the same thing. As ford had planned everything in advance, it might be possible for him to have made a bernard host in the mansion and left it there for dolores ready to use.

Even if the body of bernard was already made, she would still have to create the mind of bernard out of her memories. I cant remember if they showed her making the physical body of bernard plus the mind or only their sessions together.
