"jeeze, and I thought they were from the mid West USA"? What a breath of fresh air they are. I'm a really, really old geezer and old enough to be their grandad and I love them. I'd sell me dentures and the mobility scooter to get me hands on a ticket if Wet Leg and Baxter Drury were on the same stage..... Outstanding. "gonna make a cuppa and have another listen"!!!
They're both so humble and soft-spoken--I wouldn't have expected that from the creators of a banger like "Wet Dream"! I hope they go far, defo be keeping an eye out for their full-length album :)
Please make music from creativity, do not allow a label to direct you on how to make music. From the heart and mind is better. I am a HUGE fan, live in San Diego, CA. Reminds me of the early 80's creativity. Love you guys, keep it real as always. Cheers! Kurt
I moved down to the Mobile Alabama area a year ago and finally found 92.1 WZEW 2 days ago. So glad I did because yesterday I heard Chaise Longue and what a catchy tune. This band is going places
@@Michael69 He published an essay in The Guardian on Sept 17 with title "Iggy Pop on finding new music: ‘At my age, it helps to remain curious’" Here's the 1st graf-- "I keep reading that we decline in our 70s so I try to keep using my brain. Discovering new music opens my mind and the element of surprise keeps me connected. I feel like I’m mining for diamonds - and when you find the diamond, you know. When I heard Chaise Longue by Wet Leg I got really excited: it’s cheeky, with a wicked groove, but it’s the vocals - they’re almost metronomic. You could ask 100 people to sing it and it wouldn’t sound the same." I'd post the link to the whole piece, but the last time I linked to something here, my comment got removed. I'm not sure why-- it was in perfectly good taste.
Have you listened to their lyrics? They aren’t pure or naive. They are smart enough to know how to fuck with you. And this video is part of that as well.
I love these two! Had almost forgotten about their awesome music vid until the algorithms recommended again. So glad about that. RE their success: "I'm jealous of us too!" Classic ^^
You two are absolutely fantastic. And I hope you go way beyond what you think. It’s so refreshing to hear artists that are purely in for the love of what you do, and what you so well. I fuckin love you guys
When I was a teenager, I lived on Hayling Island, which faces the Isle of Wight. My hippie sister was 20 & lived there. It was a strange place in the 1970s. I remember aged 18 taking the ferry, I think from Gosport, over to see her. I brought my Suzuki GT380, which I still own. Her boyfriend was a tall Aussie bloke who demanded a go on it. I think he was disappointed it wouldn’t wheelie.
Rhian and Hester built a campfire and lit a match. Now they find themselves unexpectedly at the Grande Finale of Burning Man, right out the gate. I really love what they have given us and only hope for the best for them. Isle of Wight, World spotlight, overnight.
Wow this is my thing - great sound, original and yet faintly reminiscent of late 70s stuff B52s, Altered Images kind of thing (my time I'm afraid). Stay yourselzes ladies.
Their little lead guitar licks also sound kinda like something Kurt Cobain would appreciate. Specifically that "butter your muffin" song, which has a hint of the "come as you are" solo in its grungey simplicity. Lot of people seem to dislike this group but I'm all for them man! Wish I could jam with them and make some cool collab tracks 😞
It's ironic because I've been getting into the Idles recently, and it seems they're having effects on so many other bands - but this is the best effect because Wet Leg sound like an excellent indie band, and really it's their music which gives them away, the power behind both songs is so clear. It's interesting just waiting for new material. and they've woken me up for sure... that takes some doing.
Alright... just saw Idles for the first time on October 10th... if they like Idles and Big Thief, I'ma give 'em a listen. Was introduced to Gustaf recently too. Some fun stuff coming out! Like Wet Leg.
This band coming out of nowhere is the best possible story for all of us. Who wants the 7 minute extended version? Omg that sounds about right for Chaise Longue
Laid back or stoned (or both)? Lol. Wet dream is a good/funny one aswell. Love the accents; interesting tunes, nice to hear something thats not just 'in your face' pop music! Keep it up ladies! :-)
So psyched to find this band! Dig the harsh guitars juxtaposed against the sweet vocals singing naughty lyrics. I’d love to see them open for Amyl and The Sniffers when I see Amyl play in Brooklyn this coming May! That’d be such an interesting mix!!
Their purity arises from their near-total isolation. Some people don’t leave the Isle for years on end. It’s just big enough for that to not be totally nuts.
Shiny, happy people...They could do wipe clean sofas! Nice to see nice people get nice things tho... Been following (not in a weird way 😂) their career since I heard first single...As not that much that floats boat out there... Only work with Isle of Wight people tho...?? Very Wicker man!!! Oeeer...
Just a couple arty introverts and suddenly everyone's expecting things from them! Long may they kick ass, and I hope they get long happy lives out of it
So, the song is called "Chaise Longue", which is repeated in the song so many times there can be no doubt how it's pronounced, even if you don't know any French. Then why does the interviewer pronounce it like "...lonje"? I presume he listened to the song before interviewing the band?
