Felt emotional watching this but couldnt help but smile from all the memories created there. So many great moments with friends and family. Thank you for doing this
For those asking why such a heavy police presence and why tasers etc drawn, I can tell you why. Most calls to breached construction/abandoned sites like this aren’t urban x’ers. They are people stealing metal/tools. These people have no issue with using violence to get away so the police turn up in force for their own protection. When you’re faced with a thug with an angle grinder who doesn’t want to get caught, you’re not particularly safe if you’re alone. The call doesn’t ever come through as, ‘there’s some innocent lads who’ve found an open access area to a site and are doing nothing but filming.’ It always comes as ‘there’s someone on site and we don’t know who they are or what they are doing.
I had flash backs of running up them stairs as a kid. Only 1 did I go on the very top one because I lifted off the slide 🤣 ah mahn 😭 nostalgia.... Thanks guys!
Great video, miss this water park, loads of memories here!! Been so curious about how it would look inside for years, loved watching this thanks for sharing
I first went here round when it opened in the early 90s and it was clean and well kept. I went again just after my wedding in 2006 and the place was filthy. Mould everywhere. In the joints of the slides, on the walls, peeling paint, rust dirt and grime. It used to smell clean and of bleach when it opened. And Chlorine. When I was in there in 2006 it just smelled dirty. Sweaty and rank. I thought at the time it was a shame it was getting run down. I was in on a Saturday afternoon, and by the Sunday night I was running a fever. I could not shake it off over the following week and ended up on antibiotics. No doubt I caught something from the dirty water when I was in there. The fever still refused to go, and after a month my blood felt like it was on fire. I ended up in hospital on a drip for a week with septicemia. Poison in the blood caused by bacteria in dirty water, I almost died, and it took me over a year to recover. The lasting effects of which have left me sterile. Which eventually led to my divorce. So I was hardly surprised to see the place closed down at last, and the reviews on trip advisor for the last few years of it being open were full of complaints about how dirty it was.
man, always wanted to go here as a kid but never had the opportunity to i can picture it all very much lived up to its legend status, would go back in time to try to get here
I also worked in the tower one night repairing the ballast rails on the top stairway around 1AM only me and security guard downstairs in front office, the tower even at night was really warm and humidity was off the scale, even picking up a screwdriver you would piss sweat, I'm working on railings when the tower started to get really cold and i mean cold. The hackels on the back of my neck and hairs on arms and legs came up,i heard what sounded like someone walking up one of the slides, downed tools ran down the stairs to see if security guard was having a joke but he was asleep. Left the tools in tower till i came back early morning and told cleaners who sain they see footprints of shoes and dog paw prints coming out of lazy river onto beach area tiles. Never worked alone in that place again. 😮😮
It is for sale. I guess the price for it is around £3,2m. For that price you get only 2-3 new waterslides if you build a new waterpark but here you get the full waterpark with 10 slides, a wave pool, lazy river, restaurant and much more! I traveled over 1000 km per plane only for this waterpark. And why? Because it is under my top list of waterparks ever made. In 1993 it was the record holder regarding the amount of indoor waterslides in Europe. It was something completely new! 2001 the Abyss was added, also a new thing. I wish someone buys it and reopens it! I would do if I had the money.
As far as I know it was bought by Serco a few years back and they still own and want to keep hold of it. I doubt it will be a waterpark again (most of the tubes/slides would be extremely unsafe to reuse now I expect) but it might become some sort of leisure centre again. I doubt Serco will try and sell it. I haven't seen any listing.
It was a great place back in the day! Thanks for sharing the video. I do wish you isolated voices or re-recorded the audio at a later date though because the alarm was unbearably loud! (Not that you could do anything about that).
Love this place , growing up and my kids have loved it when they where young, they keep asking is it reopening, someone surely has to buy and reopen, such a waste if not 😢
So you got in through the plant room side door and went through all the staffing areas sad to see you didn't get to go through the upstairs section where the offices and the cafe were. honestly though the pool looks cleaner now than it did when it was open also I would of loved to see the dire state doom was in.
Aww man, this is so sad 😔 fascinating to see inside the place again though. It looks spooky now. I hope it opens again someday. I can't see the sense in just keeping the building there to do nothing with it. The Black Hole was the best slide. You couldn't pay me to go down the Kamikaze, even as a fearless kid I was too scared.
I use to take regular Groups of young people there. It was a great place and sad to see it closed like this. Was very Very hot though I as I use to sit in the outside garden. Great Place and a very sad loss.
It was hot when it first opened coz it was heated to replicate a tropical climate but it cost them too much so they stopped doing that. I remember the last few times I was there it was freezing waiting in line for the slides when you were dripping wet. It probably still felt warm if you were just in the building itself though. The cafe was boiling hot the first time we went. I miss the place. I wish I could take my kids.
@@abandoneduk4640 I think it had its moments as you say it was packed but other time not so packed. This was before it closed and re-opened again. As someone said it was very very hot and misty which was why I say on the bench table outside the double doors. This was where the lazy pool went outside and back in again.
Used to go here when i was a kid, shame to see it abandoned. I remember walking up the long stair case to the slides with the horrid square window tiles around me
Serco were leasing it but they bought the building outright a few years ago. They are most likely looking for investors to fund doing something with it. Prob with opening it back as a water park is the ticket price will have to be astronomical to make it viable. To give you an example, a council run, so heavily subsidised, pool nearby which is nothing but a rectangle pool cost just shy of £30 for a family of 4. So somewhere like this you’re looking at closer to £70 or £80 so they could cover running costs. In the north east they are going to struggle to get people to pay that, so reopening it as a water park I doubt will ever happen. I think the site is more likely to be recommissioned as a multi leisure type place where they can charge people multiple times for multiple things once they are in the building. So bowling, arcades etc etc.
the 0:07 to 0:18 part was the staircase up to the cafe staff bit, and the 2 rooms next to those stairs were the catering lockers and catering break room.
it looks salvageable tbh. I don't know why someone doesn't buy the place. Only closed due to poor management, terrible "creative ideas" for example; a shop to buy goggles and armbands was never going to make a lot of revenue. renting the building out to schools and parties whilst not in operation was probably their best choice but not going to completely carry the financial strain alone to increase revenue its like they weren't even trying at this point. there's so much that could be done to massively increase the revenue so sad 😢😢
Used to go often as a child, that drop slide was insane the fear before going on 😂😂😂 the blue on you stood in the middle on, some reason I always ended up flipped upside down in the dinghy 😂 That abyss slide was not good for wearing a bikini on the pressure it shot you out then sort of pushed you back up slightly made your swim wear fall down was horrendous 😢😂😂😂
We have to say # bringbackwetandwild unbelievable waterpark think it got close down a lot of kids we’re getting herd and people trying to sue them I think
@@abandoneduk4640 Tbh it wasn't really the slides that injured people in that place it was the shitty and unmaintained tile work the whole tower needed ripped down and rebuilt so much rust. The only time people generally got injured on a slide is by not following lifeguard instructions. Source I worked there for 7 years.
If you ever go in again try to figure out where the alarm triggers are and avoid them. Also be nice to the police when they come and just be honest they you were making a video. I’m sure they will be nicer to you if you are honest
This is on TripAdvisor about this place. Had to laugh. Millicent The Magnificent Newcastle upon Tyne, UK4 contributions 4 great day out Aug 2020 • Family great day out for the whole fam (my 3 children and now ex-husband) we arrived and were quickly enticed by the thick aroma of chlorine and sticky children crying. my youngest blended in right away as he himself is a sticky crying child. my middle and eldest child decided they were hungry and ordered some delicious soggy chips and chicken nuggets the only reason i do not rate this 5* is because i wish i could have drowned my two timing ex husband in the chlorinated lazy river then choked him with the fish fingers my children did not eat however as a single wine-a-holic mother i enjoyed putting my feet up and letting the lifeguards take care of the brats for a day #lol #wap #worshipandprayer xxxx
Such a shame seeing this place as it is now, needs taken over and spruced up so more families can make memories there the way mine did. I remember going on that vertical slide, think it was called the Kamikaze at the time, they told you to cross your arms and keep your legs straight the whole way down, and then you just dropped for what seemed like forever till you hit the curve at the bottom 😂 Ahhh great times.
We don’t break in to places if there’s no access we walk away security also said it had been open for about a week and I don’t think it will ever reopen
@@abandoneduk4640 yeah definitely agreed and that's no problem then, glad to see your respect for the place tho, as RU-vid channel like yours show value and support to places that are just wasted, and could be reopened and fixed up if they cared👊🏼💜💯
Great vid even if it ended early. I presume they just moved you guys on? Wandering on private property is a civil trespass and not illegal if you don’t damage anything right
I used to go here when I was a kid, 2009-2016. I had no idea it'd closed down :( sad to see Also, don't listen to the hate comments, I love watching people explore abandoned places and it was really interesting and nostalgic to see a place from my childhood again, despite the state of it now
I forgot to ask in my original comment but I assume you couldn't get to or didn't view the dining cafe area and the kitchen? I worked there for a shitty seasonal summer job back in 2010. I remember it being the dining area, kids party area, the cafe counter and double doors for staff area which lead to the kitchen and those stairs I mentioned earlier.
Company that leased it bizarrely bought it after they closed it down but have done nothing with it in the years since, not even seen any plans for redevelopment
It was unhygienic it closed down for a while but then re-opened but still people where complaining I think it got took over but then COVID hit it's strange how it's still riddled with security maybe there's still plans to re-open it someday 🤔
@@g1bs0n60 I went with my friends in February 2020 and it said it was closed down for renovations until march but then Covid hit dk if I’m right but I think it went back rupt cos it could not open
