Greetings from Bulgaria! Stirling is the best soap on the planet. I now have 7 fullsized tubs. 1 for every day of the week. I load the brush for 20-25 seconds only and then bowlather adding about 15 drops of water in total 3x5-6 drops. In the doggy bowl you used in this video. This way I have lather for 3 passes plus extra two for the next day. Keep in mind that I start with wet but completely squeezed brush. This is my technique. It works for me in very hard water, because everyone can with soft or distilled. Your soaps are 18.50 euro in Europe. Relatively expensive for Bulgarian standard but I adore the slickness post shave feel and aroma of your products! Campagnia MITA and boat drinks are just my top 3. The wet shaving community is the greatest community in the world. Your greatest fan in Bulgaria!

Hey Rod, I bought one of the bowls you show here and it came (as you undoubtedly know) with a sample of your soap. The bowl is great as those knobs really help develop the lather. I'm really impressed with the sample soap you sent. Unlike the other shave creams I've used, the brush comes completely clean quite easily. I'm looking forward to ordering some of your "Piacenza" style soap (as we've communicated by email) as soon as I get rid of the "Brand X" shave creams I already have on hand.

@theconsiderateilliterate5678
Great video. Been buying your soaps for years and always satisfied. Question: Do you put the lid right back on the shave soap container once you are done shaving? Or do you let some excess moisture dry out before putting the lid back on it? Just looking for what's best longevity wise. Thanks!

Thank you! If you're going to be using it again soon, there's no need to leave the cap off. Just make sure all the excess water has been poured out. If you'd going to be storing it long term without using it, it is a good idea to leave the cap off for a day to let it air out.

Hey Rod….I just purchased you Barbershop soap and I love the smell of it and the sample of the Coniferous soap I use in my apothecary mug so I’m alternating between both of them. I don’t bowl lather because for me I don’t have a lot of room for extra gear and more importantly it’s just an extra and very unnecessary step as well as something extra to have to clean up after a shave. But my question is after I’m done with the tub do I reseal it or leave the lid off to air dry as I have heard that by air drying the scent over time will dissipate.
@StirlingSoap
@StirlingSoap 7 месяцев назад
If you're going to be using it again soon, you can cap it. Just make sure there isn't any standing water in there. If you're going to be putting it away long term, it's a good idea to leave the cap off a few hours to make sure it's good and dry.

Stirling has been my "go to" soap for some time now so I'm very familiar with the product through repetition. In my opinion it is the best value in the wet shaving market, ounce for ounce. The amount of lather it produces is incredible and the slickness is amazing. Even if you use cartridge razors you should be using Stirling soaps. I don't spend the time to prepare my lather as Rod did in the video. I get great results from face-lathering. I do own bowls but for the most part they are decoration. I also own two of Stirling's synthetic brushes and they are the best. Can't say enough good things about Stirling. Oh, and the soaps smell incredible too!

Nice video. Sometimes I bowl lather with a synthetic brush and I face lather with my 2-band badger. A question I have is can a damp brush, synthetic or natural hair contaminate the soap puk. I have seen that some shavers just scoop some soap into a bowl and never load the brush from the puk because they say that water can contaminate the soap. Also, I find that bowl lathering with a badger, the brush hogs the soap.
@StirlingSoap
@StirlingSoap 4 месяца назад
I have loaded directly from the tub with a damp brush for nearly 15 years without ever having a soap go bad. I don't think it is a major issue, unless there are major cleanliness issues where the soap and brush are being stored.

Great tutorial video. I recently bought glacial margaritas in the artic & baker street. Amazing scents & performance, definitely couple of steps up from the proraso soap I used when starting out wet shaving this year. I'm curious on how do I maintain the soap for their longevity & what's the shelf life of the soap (used & not yet used ie haven't met with water) Love from Malaysia.
@StirlingSoap
@StirlingSoap Год назад
Thank you! Just keep them cool and dry and out of direct sunlight, and they will last for years, if not decades. If you use them and then decide to store them for a long time, it is a good idea to leave the cap off for a day or two to let any excess water evaporate before you put the cap back on.

I just ordered a few stirling soaps and one of your synthetic brushes. Is it really ok to just stick the brush in the soap jar like that or can I take some out and put it in the lathering bowl? I fear it could become contaminated with bacteria by dipping the brush directly in the soap.
@StirlingSoap
@StirlingSoap Месяц назад
Plenty of customers do scoop out some soap and lather in a separate bowl. It's not necessary though, as unless you have a filthy brush and shaving area, the soap will kill any bacteria. I've got soaps in my collection that I load directly from the jar with that are over 10 years old, and none of them have ever become contaminated.

I bowl lathered when I first started wet shaving… then I went to face lathering and got the same effect and figured bowl lathering was just a waste of time 😂 just an extra step that isn’t necessary in my opinion. But hey to each their own.. I feel like it’s more of a style thing.

Thanks, Philip. We're doing great. I hope the same for you and your loved ones. I had hoped to be able to re-release the deodorants this year, but unfortunately the prices of the raw materials we use to make them have gotten so high that I simply can't afford to make them.

@@StirlingSoap Hey Rod, I know you are a busy guy so if you get time I have a question: Is a soap that uses potassium Tallowate and sodium Tallowate considered a tallow based soap?
@StirlingSoap
@StirlingSoap Год назад
@@alspencer2794 Yes, sodium tallowate and potassium tallowate are just the names for the tallow after it has reacted with the sodium and potassium hydroxide. If an ingredients list (like mine) shows tallow and the the potassium and sodium hydroxide as individual ingredients, it's giving the pre-reacted ingredients that went into the formula.

is it possible to just paint on without the scrubbing. scrubbing generally leaves me very irritated depending on the soap whereas when i paint on i get great coverage which i cannot do with a bowl. i can get a decent consistency but i cant get a good enough coverage with out it going everywhere only a dryer cream works for me when i bowl lather which doesnt really work with straight razor. any work arounds you can think of
@StirlingSoap
@StirlingSoap Год назад
If you're just wanting to paint the lather on, you definitely have to build the lather in a bowl or other container prior to taking it to your face. Just using paint brush strokes to build the lather on your face likely isn't going to provide enough agitation to properly build the lather.

Hey can anyone tell me if there is a difference between bowl lathering the way shown here and bowl lathering by taking a small bit of soap and putting it in the bowl? Are certain soaps intended to be used one way or the other or is it just personal preference? Is there a difference at all?

Definitely don't put it away with standing water in the jar. If it's moist, it's okay, but you never want to leave water sitting on the soap long term.

@@chrisn9902 Yep. Perfectly fine. If you're putting it away long term without using it, it's a good idea to leave the lid off for day to let any excess moisture evaporate, but if you'll be using it again in the next day or so, it's fine to cap it after the excess has been shaken out.

IMO way too thin lather I don't like it. I use your soap with much less water and will get a pasty, thick texture with more protection and never have dry feeling. Even if it would be the razor will give enough water to balance it but it was never an issue. This soap provides a very good post shave effect indeed. I have thick beard and sensitive skin. Stirling soap is in my top 10 for sure. I Like the countless fragrance variations and the fantastic price of this excellent product.
