Cool video...Thanks! It still blows me away how there are so many companies creating new products for the “Wet Shaving” marketplace. Most people don’t know it even exists. For me, if I hadn’t bought my Micro-Touch 4 years ago from the drugstore just for Fun, I would have never known about Wet Shaving. The Micro-touch led me to eBay, vintage Gillette’s, Nick Shaves, and your Cool channel and store! Thank you Micro-touch....HAHAHAHA. Needless to say I haven’t used my Micro-touch since I bought my first vintage Gillette Superspeed..HAHAHAHA!👍😊
Q-shave also have a Merkur Futur knock-off as well. I like it pretty well, but it has no knurling and the head is thick, so hard to get it under your nose. The finish is holding up well after 18 months occasional use, but my guess us the build quality of the Merkur is better. Thanks for the vid, Matt.
Its funny I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and use to watch my old man shave all the time. always say I can't wait to shave he would always says what a pain in the ass shaving is:)
I have the other model of Qshave and I love it. It’s the one I tell folks to get if they are starting because of the adjustability, price, and good shave it gives me every time.
That's the Qshave Parthenon. It has gotten very good reviews. I have the Merkur Progress and I enjoy it. I use it on 2 1/2 for daily shaving. In the higher settings it gets pretty aggressive. I have a few low budget razors. And I honestly could say I get very nice shaves from them. They might not have the built of a vintage Gillette but it's a razor. I mean how can you abuse a razor??
What a coincidence. I have a Qshave razor on my Amazon shopping cart to order next month, although not this one, but the Merkur Futur clone. I'm traveling to Las Vegas, and since I can't fly with a razor, and I only plan to take carryon on my flight in, but I'm buying a bowling bag and will check it on my return trip, I'll use the opportunity to get some shaving stuff, so I can order and have it delivered to my hotel in Vegas. Now, having watched your video, I think I'll order this one instead of the Future knockoff.
A while ago a received my adjustable Qshave razor(the other model) with my name engraved on the handle !!(really nice option). I started to shave with a safety razor a year ago but stoped after 2 months stoped. i didn’t managed to learn it with the edwin jagger.a while ago i thought to myself “come on your now a barber student so you have to give yourself a more traditional shave” and i picked up my Qshave and tadaa! Immediately a perfect shave! Each time trying to find the right setting.mild settings work the best for me and also different blades
I have a Merkur Progress in my small collection but I can't say it's my favourite. It definitely shaves well but somehow I don't enjoy shaving with it as much as I do with Edwin Jagger DE89 or Muhle R41. Definitely will give Q-Shave a try, though.
Q Shave , it's the Parthenon model has V1 and V2. V1 was a bit aggressive and would clog w hairs; so they came up with V2. V2 is actually a really good razor for me....I use it mainly for head shaving (#5). I like it more than the Merkur...better shaves . Q shave makes better razors than the rest of brands from China....not sure how long it will last..... bet you it won't last more than a vintage Gillette......
They fixed several issues, most notably the dial actually changes the settings of the blade gap. You can check out Don Younger's channel, Wet The Face, where he reviews the V2.
Is that shaving cream goes in Europe under a different name? Bluebeards? With a skull as Logo? Looks pretty much the same. I would go for the progress. But to be honest. Sold it and still have my slim adjustable 😁
Good job Matt💈💈 Nice comparison, China Vs Germany, wow. Like the look of the Q, the head is unique👌 I have a "Mergress" XL, a custom Progress and really like it. Eric really knows how to smooth out the razor and the added weight of the knob balances the whole unit👍 Great video again. Enjoy!
Could you refer me, please, to a wet-shaving website where I might trade a new, unused Merkur Progress for a new, unused Merkur 34C? The Progress is a more expensive safety razor. I have two of the Progress because I thought I had broken my original one. Before the new "replacement" had arrived, a watch smith fixed my original. If I'm going to have an extra of either, it would be a Merkur 34C, without which I never want to find myself. Any good suggestions for where, online, I might manage a trade? Thank you. (I don't know if I've broken any rules by posting this comment. Let me know, please, if I have. Thanks again. Cheers.
It is very simple; one acquires an adjustable razor, experiments with various settings and eventually finds a couple of favorites. Then said wet shaver watches some Yahoos on RU-vid pontificate about "what settings they are SUPPOSED to use" and the honeymoon is over. Poor old wet shaver now tries to go up then down and back again all because of what Bobo said. Now, after spouting all that wisdom; gimmie me muh free Tee-Shirt. :D :D :D XD ;-)
Matt I always enjoy your videos. That Q-Shave is actually a Weishi. Did you know that Weishi is a Japanese company with manufacturing facilities in China. Weishi, my company Global Shave Clubs, and a well known ISO 9000 subcontractor in India, are remaking the Fat Boy, See more details on www.globalshave.club. Now about the Progress versus the Weishi...... well that is a tough one. I would give the nod to the Progress but just by a hair. My favourite adjustable razor is the Gillette Slim by far, but the Progress is a close second. I love vintage razors and for some reason the Progress feels vintage in my hands. But the slim is in a class by itself. I would love to develop a bit of rapport with you. Maybe we can help each other some how.
The only way I would buy a Chinese razor is if Gillette came out with a replica slim or 195. Otherwise I’ll stick to saving my money for a Rex or model T
Matt, is that the V2 from Q-Shave? I got my Q-Shave and enjoy it a lot, but mine was the V2. I tried setting 1 and then setting 9 and could tell a huge difference. But I agree, I tend to stay low to mid range on all adjustable razors. And I go back and forth in the settings from my cheek to my neck, which I think is what an adjustable shines at. How does that cream decelerate facial hair? Does it clog up the pores or something? That doesn't seem natural to me. Thanks for the video and the review!
