The King C Gillette safety razor was my introduction to DE shaving several years ago. You are correct DE shaving is the gateway to trying out all sorts of soaps, blades, more razors and various techniques. Began DE shaving to save money and now spend more on shaving than ever but, it is fun, enjoyable and a much better shave. Even shave more often now.
Exactly, that was the point to the video. It’s so awesome to have a razor like that readily available to bring people into this way of shaving! I’ll talk to you soon!
@@mmobley011889 Wonderful hobby. I was able to land a Gillette Slim made in 1961 off ebay. With the original case and instructions and it looks in great shape. Hope to add it to my rotation of razors.
im only 17 and saw this thing and it was beutifull, i did some research and it turned out to bebetter. Now pretty much everyday im just thinking of shaving and love doing it, a bit more time but its better for ur skin more fun and satyfing and beter cut
The fact King Gillette literally invented the DE safety razor as we know it, and that it has never truly gone out of date makes it an absolute travesty that the company abandoned that market for several decades. They should have always had at least one available for the sake of posterity and pride. Glad that they are back in it though, hope that they eventually come out with a higher end, perhaps adjustable one. I'll admit I'm a sucker for chrome lol. The blades are good too, better than the platinum blues.
I whole heartedly agree! It’s sad what happens due to corporate greed and abandoning their heritage for the sake of profit. I too would like to see a premium model come out of Gillette that’s not just a retread of existing models. I hope to talk to you again, I really enjoy comments like yours! Matt
I can see why, it’s a really nice looking razor that delivers an amazing shave! It is a bit heavy and has a fairly long handle, but all of that can be overlooked due to the performance and stunning looks! Thank you for sharing. Matt
Thank you Mr. Straight razor! I have watched a few of your videos, and I was mesmerized by your razor honing, and skill with a straight razor. I have not been able to use mine because they are fairly dull. I saw a couple of your comments on mikeyshaves channel and checked yours out. You have an amazing channel. Thank you for checking the cannel out! Matt
It's what I use on my face,it's non expensive and the blades are cheaper than the twin, three four or five blades which you don't even need for a close clean shave.
That’s so true, the replacement blades are way less expensive and there are a variety of blade brands that you can choose from! With the right technique a close comfortable shave is just a few minutes away! Thank you for commenting!! Hopefully I’ll talk to you soon. Matt
The head geometry is really similar. The biggest differences that I see between the two are the weight and length of the razors. The 34c is lighter and, shorter which is a preference of mine making it easier to limit the amount of pressure that the razor naturally places on your skin. Besides that they are both great razors and would have no problem recommending either one, although the Gillette is ran by a massive corporation that has been actively working to disenfranchise men from being men and demonizing masculinity. If you leave that at the door and look at the razor objectively they are very similar. Matt
@@mmobley011889 yeah that really sucks. The King C, where I live, is 1/5 the price of the Merkur 34C. I didn't buy it yet because it is from Gillette... Might have to bite the bullet on that one. On the other hand I have, at accessible prices the Jagger razors, you reckon those would be better?
I believe that the king c. Gillette head and the Edwin jagger head are the exact same head. If price has any bearing on the purchase, I would go with the less expensive option unless you have a preference for shorter or lighter razors. The reason that I picked up the king c Gillette razor was to see if it was any good and hopefully help send a message to larger corporations that there is a market for DE razors today. I hope which ever one that you pick gives you some awesome shaves! Matt
@@mmobley011889 I see! Even if the Jagger is a bit more expensive, I think I'll go with it then, better than buying anything from Gillette lol. Thank you a lot for your help, Matt!
Thank you very much for the video! Which do you think would be a better for my first safety razor, the King C Gillette or the Rockwell 6C? Some people have said the Rockwell 6C is a good first safety razor because it’s adjustable. I appreciate any advice anyone can give to me. Thank you.
They would both be a great choice, but I would go with the king c Gillette, or the Edwin jagger de 89. They have the same head geometry. The Gillette has a longer handle and can be picked up at Walgreens. Every other razor is compared to the Edwin jagger because it is at the right spot between smooth and efficient. The reason that I chose the king c Gillette as the gateway drug is because it’s relatively cheap, and easily accessible. Im sure that the 6c is an amazing razor, but the problem that I have with adjustable razors is that I use them find my favorite setting and that’s where it stays for ever essentially. Getting a quality razor and spending time working on technique is definitely the way to go. Thank you for your question. I hope to talk to you soon.
@@mmobley011889 Thank you so much for such a fast response to my question! WOW! I greatly appreciate that! And, of course, I greatly appreciate such fantastic advice! Thank you!
I have both razors…..the 6C is much better. The three plates give you 6 different blade gaps and the razor is not overly aggressive. In short…it’s a great razor to start out with.
To empower other people such as your self to ask abundantly stupid questions, in a safe and caring space, to know there are places on the internet for all kinds of people. Thank you for allowing me to answer the burning question that’s been on everyone’s mind. I’m so proud that you had the courage to say what was on your mind. Your parents and grandparents are going to look back on your RU-vid comment history and be in awe of what their child has accomplished with such cunning wit and such a thought provoking question. Matt
