Total newbie to wetsuits and wish I had seen this before contorting myself into a completely dry, open-cell 7mm that was already on the small side. No wonder my boyfriend was wheezing and in tears watching the debacle 😅 great information! Thank you for making these videos; they are so helpful!!

I struggled with suits myself trying to find a good fit. Most shops aren’t too keen letting u try an open cell suit on but some are. I had a pretty good experience with mako and live in Southern California. 5mm yamamoto just ordered it based on size chart. One fit way better than the other and they did the return with no worries. Thanks for the help there Adam!

• Avoid neoprin - I'm not sure if anyone makes neoprin wetsuits, but neoprin is different from neoprene and not in a good way. • You can use coconut oil to help you get on your wetsuit. Keep in mind that you don't want to use something that could be harmful to aquatic flora & fauna. I got a hammy down wetsuit and I haven't tried it out in the water yet. When I first got it, I put the top on first and then tried to get the pants on and I got so sweaty and tired that I gave up lol. I will have to go visit a spring and test out the wetsuit.

Adam! I'm so chuffed the first wetsuit you showed (and keep showing a lot as well) was the Ocean Hunter Chameleon Core Series 3, plus its hood, because THAT'S THE EXACT ONE I USED!!! I'm kinda glad I got it before I started learning about different wetsuits, otherwise had I known then what I know now, I probably wouldn't have gotten it. Couple of cons: • Water gets in fast so it's quite cold. I dived in 17°C in Perth this winter and I had instant regrets. • The one piece is really restrictive around my torso, so I have a hard time doing effective breathe ups • I haven't tried here in Singapore yet, but I suspect it might be quite warm if I use it in the tropics (that being said, can you ever be too warm in freediving?) Good stuff: • Double lined/closed cell so easy to get on and off • Doube lines also means it's less prone to tears • I've done entry and exits on limestone rocks with 2 m swells and this bad boy keeps my skin in one piece, while also staying in one piece! Knowing what I know now, I'd probably get a two piece open cell, probably with two clips on the beaver tail and camo that is suitable for coral reefs or kelp forests. I appreciate the video is simple and that you avoid a lot of technicalities, especially with how neoprene will compress and change your bouyancy. That can be very difficult for a newbie to understand and I like how you explained it concisely and only gave enough information that would be relevant for a newbie. That being said, you didn't mention just s couple of things that I thought woulda been important to talk about as well: • Seam types (flat or GBS) • Environmentally friendly wetsuit lubricants (Ocean Safe from the US, for example) But you're right, you had a lot to talk about already, so I guess these would be for another video. Some things I'd love to see: • Camo vs no camo? • How to maintain/increase lifespan of your wetsuit • Safe soaps for washing your wetsuit after dives • Gloves and hoods, especially for those of us that can get surprised by sudden jellyfish blooms Great stuff, good luck in the Bahamas!!

Adam Freediver hey, sorry another couple of questions: • Can you actually be too warm when freediving? • The second wetsuit you were holding looked like the Cressi Scorfano. Adam Freediver Hey, I hope you're doing great! I bought a wetsuit and wanted to ask you for your opinion. It's a 3mm closed cell suit. I was looking for a two peice open cell suit, but this one fit so so snug :) Anyway, I was hoping you could say something about the quality of this suit, as well as your opinion on if I should find a closed cell instead. They said I can bring it back if I find what l was looking for online. So as much as I want to get wet, I'm waiting to try it out Ha! Here is the link! www.cascoantiguo.com/en/239/p10598/aquaflex-wetsuit-aqualung-m--man-?gclid=CjwKCAjwhOvPBRBxEiwAx2nhLub8h_hnwCCRTNgu_3E1WC9cCVrFCwVU7T-059UTsDd7sSXjDI-pGhoCy_0QAvD_BwE If you feel at all that I should get something else then I want to. Ps The Springs here in Florida are all about 72 degrees Fahrenheit (lol I added the Fahrenheit by editing my comment. Didn't want you thinking I was on the verge of boiling over here lol) year round. I think as long as my suit is tightly fitted ( stretches well ) then 3mm should be fine right? Am I wrong? Okay sorry for the looong comment thanks for your time

Salvimar Atlantis 1.5mm for Thailand. Even though at the beginning I felt so comfty, after 2 months of diving in 30+ degree water I started getting a little cold during the dives. I think the more you adapt to a certain temperature, the more mm you need to wear. But i'm absolutely in love with the wetsuit, it looks so good underwater and the price is perfect for the value you get. One thing maybe you forgot to mention is that you should really take care of the wetsuits. Rins it with fresh water after diving in salt water and don't put it in the sun. Use a thick hanger if you have a thick wetsuit so it won't get loose around the shoulder area etc. Cheers Geoff, I would love to meet you one day, i've been following you for such a long time! Keep it up!

I usually never wear wetsuits and stay nice and simple and I do also avoid cold water I like the cold water when ur under 7 meters cuz it feels super refreshing after you ur in the warm water above then dive :) but I am planning to buy one so this was very helpful

yeah in the tropics wetsuits are just not needed :) I prefer to dive without one if i can :)

Thank you Adam. This is great. I'm using a mares 2.2 closed cell but im not so happy with it. I get cold on temperatures around 24 Celsius. Next time will get a thicker one.

open cell 3mm you should be very warm. I have a Mako Yamamoto 3mm. The surf style suits have water seep from the zipper. Not as warm as 2 piece open cell
@AdamFreediver
@AdamFreediver 6 лет назад
yeah for sure i'd need at least a 3mm open cell for 24 degrees.
@stefpix
@stefpix 6 лет назад
the Mako 3mm open cell keeps me warm 3 hours in 20 C water, spearfishing so, not as much movement as in swimming. With 2.5 mm closed cell surf style, i felt not too warm and cooling after 30 / 40 min swimming in 18 C water. my experience. Open cell you have to lube it with water and conditioner or shampoo. But once forgot the spray bottle and i just soaked in salt water and i could get in easily. Rob Allen makes a spearfishing wetsuit that is open cell on chest and back and rest is closed cell, so they say you can get in dry.

I'm using a 2-piece 7mm open cell spearfishing suit from frivannsliv.no I'd recommend them to anyone diving in colder waters. The suits can be used year round here in Norway, but the 9mm version is recommended for waters close to 0.

You have to tell which song is used for the intro/outro! As for wetsuit, I've been very happy with Elios, currently waiting for my third suit from them: 1,5mm custom Superskin Nano with Yamamoto. Excellent video, great coverage yet time efficient, perfect for new freedivers

I have two wetsuits. One closed cell 3mm from O'neil for the "warm" swedish summer with 18 degrees. The other one i have is a open cell 7mm Cressi Apnea so i can dive more than the swedish one month summer.

The water here varies from 8 to 16 degrees so I normally wear a thick layer of goose fat. This has the benefit of acting as chum when I go spearfishing. That or a 5mm Cressi suit that I love dearly and still keeps me warm for nearly an hour in the coldest winter sea.

I never wear a wetsuit because I live in Guam. I do have a couple suits but both are unnecessary here. One of my suits is a closed cell and the same one featured at the start of this video. Fits my body pretty well. Water still comes in and out as you'd expect of a "wet"suit. However it having 3 layers of material (nylon, neoprene, nylon) requires the most effort to overcome the resistance of the suit itself. For example, lifting an arm would require compressing the neoprene on top of the shoulder and stretching the suit under the arm pit. I also have a twp piece open cell from Omer. It only has one layer of nylon on the outside and is significantly easier to move in. That one less layer also allows it to conform to my body better and once fully put on, literally zero water moves in and out unless I intentionally open the suit to let some in. However the water is so warm here year round that I never wear either.

I would always choose no wetsuit if the water is warm enough for it :)

I wear a spetton wetsuit and I dive in the Mediterraenan sea. I use a 5mm in summer and a 7mm in winter. I need more wheigt with the 7mm in winter and it gets more unconfortable, but I can stay longer in the water whout gettin cold..💙

Hi Adam! Have you had any experiences with allergy to neoprene? Is there an alternative? Avoid open cell? a special shampoo? Thanks for any tip!
@Rachel-uu8cu
@Rachel-uu8cu 6 лет назад
Aloha Adam! When you're talking about the neoprene measurements for different temperatures of water, you mention the degrees, and I'm guessing you mean Celsius! Just want to make that clear. So if anyone else goes by Fahrenheit here is the same guidelines... Tropical waters: 78.8-86°F = 1-1.5mm Colder waters: 68-78.8°F = 3mm Really Colder waters: 60.8-68°F = 5mm SUPER COLD "Shouldn't be diving" water: >60°F = 7-10mm

I use a Mares 7.0mm top and 5.5mm bottom for freediving. Water here in California is 10-12 C. If you can, use lube (and sunscreen on those sunny days!) that won’t pollute the water...

I don't dive mainly because I can't even swim, but, I have always been interested. Thanks for the videos! The music and volume of the music in this video is actually quite nice. I am mainly a metal-head so my tastes are somewhat limited. On that subject, is there a possibility to, if not at the time of filming the diving footage, dub over an aquatic sound as if you actually are in the water at that time? I am not asking you to change it (whatever works for you and your real fans. I am only a tourist). My theory on this is: if one doesn't know, one cannot improve if there is room for improvement. I am not crying to get my way. I turn the sound of the instrumental off as I crave the natural (music) water sounds so much. It's like taking a relaxing hike, the music of nature is part of the experience.

Bought my first wetsuit. As I live in northern Canada water is cold so went with 5 mil. I know I will need a weight belt rubber , question buckle or the clasp type which do you see used most? The suit is a Cressida Tecinca camo not my first pick but got it brand new off kijjii for $150 super deal.
