As a white British atheist with left leaning political views I agree with much that you say in this video. However, there is an issue which needs to be addressed by the Muslim populations of the west (to be clear, in my experience, most Muslims are perfectly decent people) and that is the disparity between what Muslims claim for themselves (morality, integrity, charity etc) and the way they are perceived by British people. This may be the result of Islamophobia in our media, but we see examples on a daily basis of Muslims behaving illegally, immorally, violently. When we look to Muslim countries we don’t see utopian societies, we see corruption and poverty. The choice is not between the current western model of capitalism or a Muslim ideal of society. Your comparison between British life of the 60s and now is not a direct comparison. Life in the UK in the 60s or even 50s was not perfect. Many people were poor and lived in terrible conditions. Many modern necessities were much less common or didn’t exist at all. People lived shorter lives. Gay people were sent to prison. I’m sure that most people would not want to return to the awful misogyny and homophobia of the 60s. In 60 years the UK has changed massively, somethings are better, much better, but other things have been lost along the way. British people don’t want to be religious, British people don’t want to go back to the days of coal mines, textile mills and heavy industry. Women want to be independent. LGBT people deserve to be respected and not criminalised. There is much that Islam can teach us, but there is also much in Islam that we wouldn’t wish to emulate. On one thing we can agree though, rampant capitalism does nothing to improve the lives of the majority and only serves to fill the pockets of the few.
Dear Andrew, I gave you a like for your comment and I can't stress the great dialogue you put in here. I'm a Muslim revert, and I'm afraid I don't have much time to write here. So I'll only pick the Muslim countries for my response. In a debate between late Christopher Hitchens and Tariq Ramadan, they Ironically both came to agree that there is not one "Muslim Country" in the world. There are indeed Muslim populations in their countries, however, they're ruled by Secular Political systems with a facade of Islam to make matters far more complicated than one may think. Yet, like it or not decisions are made in the white house for them just as much as it makes the call for international events unwrapped before us. Therefore, it's immensely impossible to witness a "Muslim Model of Utopia" equally to that of African country rich in Gold, usually sent to France, yet, won't be able to build a road from poverty. I wish to elaborate further and much to say in a short time. All I can say, if it's a point of interest, please, do investigate rulers, people and the slow progressive changes and towards what? Observant Christians, Jews and Muslims have very much in common, in that they share very many values and beliefs. The people of modern day 'Western' secular democratic Nations have broken away from their religious foundational values, beliefs and traditions, and are therefore much further removed from Christianity than Christianity is to Judaism and Islam.

A person and other people (politics, economics, social etc) 3. A person and themselves (morals). Islam as a civilisation spread over non Muslims and was successful because of its justice. It did not compel people to believe in it. It's success was it's ability to care for people (regardless of belief). It's because of its example, a small band of people were able win over millions to Islam. Thanks for the video, however your research is a bit weak (i'm an old school person that lived through the 50's and 60's) average monthly wages was not 600 pounds a month, my dad earned average of 9 pounds per week in 1960 and steadily increased by very small incremental amounts, petrol was 4 Gallons for less than 1 pound (in 1969 even ) our Home that Dad bought in west mids was 700 pounds, in other area's like Stoke -on- Trent even cheaper ! Bag of Chips stayed at 6 pence (in old Money) for over a decade until decimilisation came in 1971 when it doubled to 5 new pence! Shopping to feed a large Family was around 2 pounds per week ! you could buy an old Car for around £5 (that needed a bit of work on, like welding ) truly wonderful but austere times

Although I like the gist of what you say; re: the First World War it depends what you main by 'corporate' interests. From the 19th Century 'Pax Britannia' on there was a determination to preserve 'British Interests' which were really those of the ruling elite. This was managed, not least, by the media whipping up nationalist fervour (e.g. 'We want eight and we won't wait' and international rivalries. This was largely to serve the financial and social interests of the ruling elite inclusive of corporate power. The same ruthless pursuit of perceived national interest as corporate/elite interests has characterised American foreign policy since the late nineteenth century and this has been well-documented. Changing demographics, among other factors has led to the NHS, for example, extensively recruiting from abroad. Re: the increasing health needs of an aging population one extrapolation supposed that by the middle of this century all young women leaving school would have to be care-workers in order to meet the supposed needs! I believe that, where possible, employers always try to recruit cheap labour to keep indigenous workers wages as low as possible - hence Engels bitter complaints about the influx of Irish to England in the 19th Century. Capitalism, especially the ruthless neoliberal iteration of capitalism is the root problem. Formally invited, no, but encouraged yes. Service jobs in the U.K. - particularly in transport and the health service - were widely advertised in both the Caribbean and the Indian sub continent (at that point Commonwealth citizens were also British citizens). I’d agree with perhaps 90% of your economic analysis, but your assertion that liberal secular democracy is a creation, or tool, of extreme market capitalism isn’t true. The promotion of racial justice, gender equality, freedom of religious worship and protection of sexuality and identity all came from a democratic and just popular impulse and have made Britain in many ways a happier and more tolerant society than it was in the 1960s. Although I accept Islam has many contemplative and meditative virtues, and contains some good life guidance, the way its texts are interpreted by many of its followers today comes over as intolerant, misogynistic, homophobic, anti-semitic, un-self critical and at times anti-democratic. Until this changes, I doubt political Islam will make any meaningful progress in the U.K. or the rest of Western Europe. I enjoyed the video though.

Thank you for your comment. The reality everyone submits to someone or something. Islam came to take man away from the submission to other men to the submission of God. Submitting to a revealed justice stops powerful and indluencial people from skewing the laws to benefit them as it happens in capitalism. Islam doesn't compel nonmuslims to believe in Islam. Faith can only be derived from conviction not compulsion. @@letstakealook123 I am a non a atheist/agnostic and I bare no man any ill if people treat me with respect I will always treat them with respect, I am still looking for the definitive way to solve the problems of the U.K. but I do believe everyone will have to give a little here and there as we all have to compromise and meet in the middle.
I agree with that having the majority of families with 2 full time bread winners is detrimental to society in that time is taken away from building a home, being thier for kids, contributing to society by volunteering at football clubs, soup kitchens, building relationships etc. However where we differ is i dont think it has to be the women or even one partner, analysis of marriages shows equal marriages are happier, so 2 people working part time and sharing the homebuilding. I think choice is important, people are all different and so are families, but i think many would prefer to reduce work hours if possible to spend more time with the family however they share that between parents. As a Christian, i obviously dont want to live under Islam law, and i strongly disagree with theocracies of any religion. You only have look back at the last few centuries in the UK to see just how detrimental to women living in a supposedly Christian informed legislation is, Iran and Afghanistan arent advertising anything positive for women either. Even with the economic losses you outlined ftom 1960 to now ... as a women i am better off now. In 1960 i couldnt get a mortgage to own my own house without a man acting as a guarantee- until the anti sex discrimination laws of 1975. I wasnt illegial for a husband to rape his wife until 1991 and of course i had no right to be served in the very bristish establishment- the pub (until 1982) Go back a bit longer and i couldnt vote, own property and had very very limited options to earn money and be self supporting. So a liberal or socialist goverment is obviously better for females, so long as they can practice thier religion freely, i would question that you can do that in france with thier hijab and kippah ban, that doesnt make it feel like religion is welcome or valued there..

We, have left Gods word from the Bible out of our lives and schools. It's nothing to do with colour or race, but as a nation we had good Christian morals this has been let go and we need to return to it. I do wish we weren't just a service industry though, it's sad we have let our manufacturing industry slip we produced the best steel in the world and and most of the world has benefitted from our great inventors.

There is no definitive "real Bible" In Christianity. The New Testament was not written until at least a generation after Jesus (a.s) apparent death, and was written by many people. Their stories often contradicted with each other, and there were hundreds of Gospels out there. It was only at the Council of Nicaea, more than there centuries after the time of Christ that the New Testament as we know it today began to take shape. The Council picked four out of the hundreds of Gospels that coincided with the Roman Emperor's belief and made them the official belief. The others were burned and destroyed, and those who were found in possession of them were killed. Since then most of the other Gospels have disappeared and the four official Gospels have modestly changed from time to time. Some versions of the Gospels contain verses that others do not, and of course some Bibles have entire books that others do not. There is no "Original Bible" In order to verify there have not been changed. There are old manuscripts, but no definitive "real Bible". This is the reality of Bible.

Migration is high because western populations are generally flat yet their economies need a growing workforce. So skilled people from poorer countries come to take jobs. The UK also attracts large foreign student numbers. Many stay to take jobs after completing their studies.

Not factual. Between 1952 and 1962, 500,000 migrants arrived in the U.K. from the West Indies, India and Pakistan. We are now getting over 600,000 migrants arriving EVERY YEAR. Our culture, traditions and way of life is under threat because of the numbers. Additionally, most of those now arriving have low skills and educational attainment. This means that a large number will end up on benefits or working in the ‘black economy’. All of this puts an enormous strain on U.K. taxpayers and in our public services, including the NHS. People who have lived here and paid in for generations are now struggling to receive health care when they need it. Our NHS has become the International Health Service. Please don’t tell me that it is propped up by migrant workers - this is another fallacy. The NHS actively recruits overseas staff whilst the universities turn away applications from British students who wish to train as doctors. If our population had not swelled more through immigration in the past 20 years than the previous 2,000, we would need to recruit doctors and nurses from abroad. Immigration is a business that the Elites profit from, to the detriment of the British people. Every other nationality is celebrated for their unique culture, but the English, Scots, Welsh and Irish are told that celebrating is r@cist.

So skilled workers are migrated to fill the vacancies. The vast majority of immigration is legal. Only a tiny ammout is illegal, but the politicians focus on that to deflect criticism of their failure.
@@letstakealook123a properly administered government with policies working in the national interest doesn't require immigration for population growth but incentivises a locally driven population growth, which policies exist in Hungary and previously in Libya. UK citizens have never voted on the immigration policy, same in Australia. It is a corporate sponsored policy.

However, as a white British atheist who has been arguing this point for decades I am unable to share this as I would like to simply because the endorsement of another religious ideology is not the answer. Social cohesion needs to come from secular humanistic ideals such as the teachings of ethics and empathetic behaviour without any discriminatory beliefs. Your sneaking in of an accusatory slant against the LGBTQ community beholds an underlying discriminatory feature of Islamic ideology that is abhorrent, outdated and should not be nurtured amongst a tolerant society. The vast majority of immigration is legal. The illegal immigration is a small percentage. Many reports have shown that the net economic impact of immigrants is positive as most come to work and pay far more taxes than they take from the system. The problem with funding for the NHS and schools is down to many other reasons, one of which is lack of funding.
