WFTV is a broadcast television station licensed to Orlando, Florida. First signing on the air as WLOF-TV on February 1st, 1958, the station serves the Orlando-Daytona Beach market and most of East Central Florida. After becoming the victor over several other VHF channel 9 applications to the FCC, the station battled a series of legal challenges, such as the FCC's investigation into an attorney's unethical contract on behalf of the station's owner to an FCC commissioner. WLOF-TV switched to the call letters WFTV in 1963, meaning "Wonderful Florida Television." WFTV Channel 9 has been owned and operated by Cox Media Group since 1985 and gained a sibling with the launch of WRDQ in April 2000. The station became a first for Florida in 2006; being the first TV station in Florida (and tenth nationwide) to broadcast its local news programs in high definition.
Bob Opsahl worked with WFTV from 1978 until his retirement in 2016. Marla Weech left WFTV in 2005 to work with WKMG-TV and Charter-owned News 13 (a cable news channel). She was one of two personalities laid off from Charter in 2017. Danny Treanor joined News 13 and retired in 2013, then joined WKMG-TV and retired in 2019. Pat Clarke has also retired but is now selling "Goop Dogs," a culinary creation of his mother's that has become a favorite for Orlando residents.

@@stevensuarez4843 I have old recordings of TBS and ESPN, but they are mainly show promos. The audio on the ESPN tape is not good.

Marla Weech was taken off the WFTV news in 2002 but was retained on sister station WRDQ News at 10. Poor lady was bashed too much.

I remember seeing that. There was Sentinel article from around that time with a bunch of quotes from viewers just lambasting her, unanimously negative. Compare that to the unanimously positive quotes about the late Wendy Chioji from that same article. I wonder how Wendy felt about being used that way in what was mostly a Marla Weech hit piece.
