So happy to see a video talking about how "slapchop" doesn't have to just go black to grey. You can do so much more with underpainting just by picking interesting tones for the zenithal. Great video!
You'd think it'd be more broadly talked about! There's all manner of colours that go greenish or gross over a black/grey undercoat, where others will give a warmer, more appropriate base... but no, that's not what was in the video, so nobody does it! 🙄
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio black-gray-white "slapchop" (god I hate that word, sounds like something Karl Pilkington would come up with) sucks the life out of the colors. this warm underpainting is the way to go.
@@WostryFerenc Absolutely. I tend to use whatever color would be reflected in the shadows of the miniature by the basing elements. Forest floor? Dark green or dark brown. Wooden floor? Hull Red. Desert base? Something like the brown yellow used in the video.
I love this!!! Please, show when you do one of the modern versions for your Imperial army!!! (I just looked at the kit and those modern ogres are just too cool.)
Given the range of weapon options, you could use them for the entire set of Ogre infantry. Just, you know, they're all "Maneater" style. Like the Maneaters went off and brought all their mates.
The figure is really interesting! I have been impressed with the Wargames Atlantic Miniatures for some time now and I will have to look at a set. THanks for sharing this.
It's that slightly goofy look, I think... but played absolutely straight, without it being a joke. I think it's part of what makes the old range work really well - they're funny looking, but not funny, if that makes any sense!
Wargames Atlantic has some banger box sets. Just really unique. And I really love how many of the box sets can be used in fantasy or sci-fi. Their lizardmen and giant spider box sets are like that. You can have spear chucking lizardmen, or gas mask and assault rifle carrying lizardmen. Spiders can be fantasy monsters, goblin mounts, or alien arachnids complete with laser weapons and cybernetic limbs. Plus, you can't beat their prices.
I have a yen to put the gas masked lizard men heads on Tau figures since the both have 3x fingers and the boots would just about match up with a little trimming. Gotta love Wargames Atlantic 👍
Back when the Landsknecht Ogres were first proposed as a kit, I was surprised. Someone evidently missed the old metal Empire Ogres from early WHFB. But I kind of liked the idea, so I voted for it too. Doubly surprised when it won that contest. I've been waiting for the kit to come out for a year. If I hadn't just dropped $169 (for the memes) on The Damned, I'd maybe start an Ogor Mawtribes army using this kit. Three boxes could easily give you all the regular infantry you could need. Maybe with some character models from Warmongers Miniatures, who put out a range of metal "Ogres/Great Orc Characters". A few of those might help add variety and help the Sergeants and Heroes stand out.
I bought a box of these exactly for the pseudo cadian army I'm slowly putting together. Perfectly acceptable Ogryns with those autoguns in the kit 😆 Also, the Great coated figure in the upcoming WW11 German Guard will make a very acceptable Commissar to cajole those Ogryns into the APC "It's dark in dere"😫😓😩😢
Wonderful work as always, Sonic! He looks like Kruber from vermintide after a few too many protein shakes! Hey, are you by chance a fan of starcraft? If so how would you go about painting nids to resemble the zerg? How would you base them to get a real zerg creep look? If you dont have a idea what those are it's all good! Cant wait till your next video! :)
