Live in the Fraser Performance Studio at WGBH, classical pianist Benjamin Grosvenor performs Federico Mompou's Paisajes. The piece is comprised of three parts: I. La Fuente y La Campana, II. El Lago, III. Carros de Galicia.
Benjamin first came to prominence as the outstanding winner of the Keyboard Final of the 2004 BBC Young Musician Competition at the age of eleven. Since then, he has become an internationally regarded pianist performing with orchestras including the London Philharmonic, RAI Torino, New York Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Tokyo Symphony, and in venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Centre, Singapore's Victoria Hall, The Frick Collection and Carnegie Hall (at the age of thirteen). Benjamin has worked with numerous esteemed conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jiří Bělohlávek, Semyon Bychkov, Andrey Boreyko and Vladimir Jurowski.
At just nineteen, Benjamin performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra on the First Night of the 2011 BBC Proms to a sold-out Royal Albert Hall. Benjamin returned to the BBC Proms in 2012, performing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Charles Dutoit.

First - big thanks to WGBH for their generosity....agreed that this is magic ----and this is worthy of the attention of many more folks. Grosvenor is such a splendid and thoughtful artist.....really sublime stuff....priceless...The complete Mompou piano works(4cd) performed by the composer on Brilliant Classics is wonderful, as well.. and of course the Stephen Hough recording on Hyperion which won a Gramophone Award some years ago.

Grosvenor has such a feeling for Spanish music in general and Mompou in particular. Deceptively simple, it’s the space between the notes that countswhich Grosvenor

To continue (!). He is a master of these spaces. I heard him play ‘Paisajes’ at Saffron Hall a few years ago and he immediately sent me to find them and learn them.

I'm glad there's regular uploads happening again, your channel is one of the best on RU-vid!

Magical playing, demonstrating yet again Grosvenor's extraordinary sensitivity to sound, texture and atmosphere - just the right artist for this dark, 'inward' music. (What a shame that the advert at the end bursts in so rapidly, destroying the spell!)

That's a fair point. Most people on RU-vid don't stick around all the way to the end of a 12 min video. For those that do, we should give at least a few seconds pause at the end of a piece of music like this. Glad you enjoyed Benjamin's playing. He's brilliant.

WGBH Music I agree, he's definitely a very fine artist, amongst the best we have ... and yes a longer pause at the end would be nice!

He wrote the first piece “the fountain and the rain” after him and his future wife Carmen Bravo walked to a fountain and heard the bell ring noon. He then wrote that piece to capture their special moment together.

I LOVE Mompou, and Benjamin plays this so very well. Breath-takine. Federico worked in a bell factory for a while, and you can hear the bell-like harmonies everywhere in his music.
