The 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot was a Scottish infantry regiment in the British Army also known as the Black Watch. Originally titled Crawford's Highlanders or the Highland Regiment (mustered 1739) and numbered 43rd in the line, in 1748, on the disbanding of Oglethorpe's Regiment of Foot, they were renumbered 42nd, and in 1751 formally titled the 42nd (Highland) Regiment of Foot.
The 42nd Regiment was one of the first three Highland Regiments to fight in North America. The unit was honoured with the name Royal Highland Regiment in 1758. Its informal name Black Watch became official in 1861. In 1881, the regiment was amalgamated with 73rd (Perthshire) Regiment of Foot under the Childers Reforms into The Royal Highland Regiment (The Black Watch), being officially redesignated The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) in 1931.
In 2006, the Black Watch became part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and are now officially the 3rd Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
This footage was taken during a series of homecoming parades after a Tour of Duty in The Middle East.
Dunfermline and then their home city of Perth.

@@DarrenJamiesonJamieson The first description of bagpipes is from Egypt c40BC. There are depictions of what could be bagpipes from what is now Turkey c1000BC but apparently arguments could be made they are not bagpipes. My Dad was an artilleryman and he shelled half of Egypt and would have done the same to Turkey had he been told to - I know what I'm talking about. Well, I don't really but it's not more ridiculous than what you said and I knew where to go to get the info required to back up my statement.

Some o' them had picks 'n' shovels, Some o' them had nane ata', Some o' them had umbrellas, Just tae keep the rain awa. Tr Who saw the potato diggers? Who saw them going away? Who saw the potato diggers? Sailing down the Broomielaw? (Quay on the river Clyde in Glasgow, usually used by passenger vessels (55.857712N, -4.26275E)) Some of them had picks (pick axes) and shovels, Some of them had none at all, Some of them had umbrellas, Just to keep the rain away. It's "Gurkha". And BTW, the Gurkhas were the only nation that the British could not defeat in battle. So the British, impressed with their fighting abilities, asked them to become allies - and +200yrs later the Gurkhas still are!! Bravest of the brave!! 👍

@tim7052 thanks. There are several different spellings for Gurkha Regiments particularly the Infantry Regiments
@tim7052
@tim7052 3 месяца назад
@timcubison9832 Yes, but the spelling I've used is that preferred by British Army Gurkha regiments for the past 100yrs - as opposed to the spelling used by the Indian Army. BTW, India continues to wrongly claim that the sovereign nation of Nepal (and all Nepalis) are Indian!! Furthermore, the Indian Army apes British Army policy, by only allowing Indian officers to command Gurkha (or "Goorka" - using current Indian Army terminology) formations.

The song is Wha Ha the forty-twa. Respectfully, I have a different origin story. The Black Watch was a group of Scots who patrolled the border between Scotland and England. Their job was to apprehend the reavers, aka rustlers, who were returning from their raids. It was composed of of Frasiers and Lindsays, aka the Frasier/Lindsay company. After the Battle of Culloden, the only way a Scot could carry a weapon was to serve in the British Army. Then it was renamed the Crawford Highlander Regiment. Crawford is a region of Scotland that was ruled by the Earl of Lindsay. In 1751 they were renamed the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment because of their heroic conduct at Fort Ticonderoga, formerly named Fort Carillon by the French.
