Ahh Neil Innes. What a nice and genuine man. And of course a superb, singer, songwriter, comedian... Saw him a few times before his sad and untimely death. He was great and always came out and spoke to the audience after the gig, signed albums, posed for photos.
I love the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. If you are a Python fan there are two TV shows that predate the Flying Circus that are a must see. The "At last the 1948 show" and "Do not adjust your set", the latter had the Bonzo's as the resident band. Another great thing about that show was the ongoing serial "Captain Fantastic". Another Beatles connection, they made a cameo appearance in the ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ where they performed "Death Cab For Cutie".
Hey Mazzy, I have that Inner Mystique on a CD burn. They were a great psychedlic band as we all know. I've heard that Paranoid is part of a "holy trinity" of heavy groups - the others being Deep Purple's Machine Head and Zep's "Untitled" fourth. Not a bad line up for that genre...Neil Innis is not my cup of tea - very obscure item.... although I do have a few Bonzo Dog Doo Dah band CD's....loved Procol Harum, buit never caught up to Something Magic.... On a totally different tact here, how about a video on this theme: Bands that changed personel out to be so totally different from their starting point (thinking here The Velvet Underground, HP Lovecraft, Poco, Ultimate Spinich to name a few....) an interesting theme that I think you could obviously do great justice to. Another lesser known Procol Harum track Piggy Pig Pig the extended alternate take is fantastic. From the album Home. “Wash yourself and see your sorrow. Make every pitcher clean. Take a mop and swab the floor. And destroy the evil dream…” and so on. And of course “God’s aloft the winds are raging” because Keith Reid always threw in a bit of dark semi-religious mysticism
Great picks ! Does your Chocolate Watchband include “Baby Blue” on the record? I picked up a reissue years ago that lists the some, but it is not physically on it. I assume at the time it had a licensing issue.
