I know it's difficult for you, but try to accept the fact... Except for a few kinds, Whales are not endangered. They have big bodies, and eat so many Euphausia, which are also food for fish. If we keep whale numbers grow, untouched, that'll eventually suffer marine ecosystem, and will make certain fish scarce. That will seriously affect our diet, as well. I really don't see that big difference in the situations of Kangaroos and Whales.

Blue whales are endangered(app. 2,000, some say 9,000), and are strictly prohibited to be captured. On the other hand, The numbers of Minke whale are more than 200,000, and capturing several hundred of them does not hurt their population.

Toru Suzuki is a Greenpeace anti-whaling activist from Japan. He was arrested last year after exposing the whale meat embezzlement scandal that rocked the japanese Government-funded whaling industry and made front page news. Toru recently met Australian politicians and the public to provide an insight into the Greenpeace anti-whaling campaign in Japan. The japanese want to throw him out of the country, but he won't go before he discloses all the evidence behind corrupt whaling.

In a letter to Japan, published in the NY Times, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, 21 scientists declared: "Japan's whale research program fails to meet minimum standards for credible science. Also, their whaling is not designed to answer questions relevant to the management of Whales & Japan refuses to make the information it collects available for independent review & its research program lacks a testable hypothesis and performance indicators needed for acceptable scientific standards."

What's so wrong about trying to save Whales and promote a healthier ecology anyway? You'd swear some of the people posting on RU-vid WANT animals to suffer and want the food chain to collapse. All the creeps keep calling the Shepherds crazy for believing in something. Believing in helping and saving animals from suffering, instead of believing in nothing but money! Such indecency is staggering. They're NONviolent. If they used violence, the factory ship would be at the bottom!!!

i care little for politics, namely dirty politics. This is about our world's delinquents. The whalers perform as told in the hopes of being given treats, like trained pets. They have NEVER known morality. They're like children who just need some guidance. They're not mature enough yet to know the right and wrong of what they're doing. Someone has to step in and help these unenlightened people.
@The6sicksikhs
@The6sicksikhs 13 лет назад
@DeepydeepyDeepydeepy...You shouldn't use the words "most stupidest" together like that. It's poor grammar and it makes you seem ignorant. You should have learned that in elementary school. Next time try "most stupid" or just "stupidest". Japan has permission to whale in the whale sanctuary, so they AREN'T poaching. "Non-profit" Sea Shepherd gave nearly 1 million dollars to a for-profit company called Northern Development Associates. Sea Shepherd OWNED that company. That's dirty as hell.
@The6sicksikhs
@The6sicksikhs 13 лет назад
@a5a22406...Sea Shepherd stand up for their convictions? Well, they certainly have had convictions...CRIMINAL convictions, that is. The International Whaling Commission (you know, they folks that make the rules on whaling), anyway, the IWC approves and permits Japan to whale in the southern ocean. The IWC condemns Sea Shepherd. Japan whales legally (of course they do, because THERE IS NO INTERNATIONAL LAW AGAINST WHALING). Of course Japan eats the whales, why do you think they are whaling?
@hzuiel
@hzuiel 13 лет назад
@killemonkey And the japanese could do the same. "He's physically trying to hurt us with flash bangs" I suppose they missed the memo that said flash bangs are only designed to disorient targets and not cause injury. They flashbang hostages sometimes in the process of rescuing them. Also the captain being shot is bull. A rifle would have gone right through. A handgun would hit hard enough for them to feel it, and the chances of only one shot being fired and it striking the captain of all people
@info145
@info145 13 лет назад
The IWC does allow a certain number of whales to be killed for scientific research but the IWC also declared that particular part of the ocean to be a marine sanctuary for whales. The japanese use one IWC ruling as an excuse to hunt whales, but dispute the other IWC ruling as "not binding". They pick and choose the laws they wish to follow. The Sea Shepherds try and prevent the whaling under UN GA RES 37/7: World Charter for Nature which specifically allows persons or associations to take action

@raisukrusa no it's not the only food buy they do depend greatly on the oceans. btw the oceans are for everyone to fish. however what you do in international waters is different. there are some coast guard on the ships who have limited engagment rules that do own guns. certain citizens can own guns but not very many. beef is highly expensive there dont' know about chicken prices. however if whale is one of their choices. hey in india they worship cows you don't see them coming over here .

@ameIPPAI I'm far from ignorant I have a very open mind & choose to leave my self open to all kinds of oppurtunity. If you had something intelligent to add to this discussion you would leave your ego @ the door. however you chose not to do so. nature is not as static as you think. see if man was not in the equation your statement about prey overpopulating would be true, but we are predators that are able to take up the slack.
@circusboy90210
@circusboy90210 14 лет назад
@ameIPPAI insulting a person one shows your lack of breeding & or culture 2 lack of ability to understand complicated concepts 3 a person who is insulted is less likely to want to concede your correct (in this case your really not) 4 shows your lack of a real argument or correct point of view. without predators in the ocean there is no lack of phyto plankton and or other food sources , plus we humans can pick up the slack that our fellow predators do not utilize. read a few books sir.
@circusboy90210

@markbatch as far as the wacko's in the woods they are only protecting the woods because they are homeless & think that's their land. woods value as acommodity makes more forest possible other wise the land would be developed for condo's & farms. often because the selective cuttting and removal of underbrush is not allowed by fringe groups it causes more forest losses after the fires that are more intense because of the wackos intervention in a natural logging process.
@circusboy90210
@circusboy90210 14 лет назад
@markbatch no but there was television , without cameras they are doing nothing in the ocean but harrasing innocent workers on a big ship. greenpeace has been acknowledged for about that amount of time ,this is all about publicity & free money . the pawns would do it because they have no life & this fullfillls their emptiness. paul watson is all about power & prestige plus free money & ships to play with.
@circusboy90210
@circusboy90210 14 лет назад
@markbatch my sovereignty applies to me wherever I roam I'm nobody's property. same applies to whalers there is no law in the seas. iwc has no real authority .to those 1.4 of japanese it's their whole life and their right so no matter what you think their heritiage and sovereignty are more important than your opinion. your beliefs have no place in a nother nations internal politics.
@circusboy90210

@crayola77777 I highly doubt nobody earns a paycheck. lazy??? if you could work 12 weeks out of the year wouldn't you?? that means smart not lazy. crab fisherman work 3 months and earn a years pay . this has nothing to do with whether or not whaling itself is morally correct. you have not shown any proof this industry needs subsidies. remember green technology is highly subsidised & nobody wins off that one either.
@circusboy90210
@circusboy90210 14 лет назад
@113927883 passion and nutjob are seperated by a very thin line. If they really cared they would lobby the japanese government & leave people on the ships alone , they are merely providing for their familys 2 a job, their society does not deem whale hunting morally incorrect . the people on the ships merely pawns (both sides). the bigger issue is national & personal sovereignty, not whales (of which most are not endangered). hunting whales is no more incorrect than hunting deer.
@circusboy90210
@circusboy90210 14 лет назад
@markbatch ha the iwc has no real authority to do any of this, this is by consent of the nations involved in the iwc. If my nations chooses not to be involved in this it has no teeth. furthermore there is no law in the ocean the un has no power over people sovereign actions or of sovereign nations. that's more likely why ss is not in jail. only individual nations can enforce laws over their own territory's.
@circusboy90210
@circusboy90210 14 лет назад
@ricin82 if it is illegal, which whaling is not in japan. it's not the place of a private citizen to stop it in foreign or open waters. attacking innocent people who are merely working for a paycheck is not morally correct either. From the people on the whaling boat's perspective they are trying to earn a paycheck for their family's in a legal manner. SS is a privately funded bunch of eco terrorist who have no idea of the bigger picture they are playing in.

@ameIPPAI This is exactly what I mean. If they've been effective through doing things like throwing nets into the propellers, then show that. And though you might think that people that watch this video are "fucktards" if they don't share the same opinion as you they are still the people who watch and judge it. If the response most garnered by people watching the video is "this is ridiculous" it may be time to consider a new PR campaign.
@Autofac
@Autofac 14 лет назад
@ameIPPAI Yes, I agree certain things can move people do that. However, I don't think promoting videos of your organization throwing butter or blaring sirens is an affective way of gathering support. If the practices are as un-ethical as SS makes them out to be (which I am sure they are) then you shouldn't need radical videos to drum up support, spoken word or images alone should be enough.
@Autofac
@Autofac 14 лет назад
@ameIPPAI I know there is more to this than rotten butter, and I have already made that clear in prior comments but the problem is that when 115,000+ people view this video *most* will not look at it and realize what you and I realize. Most look at it and see people throwing butter. Sad, but true. Yes, it is important to have videos that expose their un-ethical fishing practices. But doing it in videos that depict you hurling butter and blaring sirens doesn't make your cause look more legit
@Autofac
@Autofac 14 лет назад
@ameIPPAI I am sure they have gotten into near death situations with the Japanese ships, but just because they have doesn't mean their methods of doing things are any more right than others. It may even mean that the Japanese are simply more violent in their response. I am all for ethical fishing practices, and like I said if this brings, at least, attention to it, fine. But butter, sirens and bat-man boats will not change the minds of those who reap profits off of this industry.
@Autofac
@Autofac 14 лет назад
@ameIPPAI *2, Now sometimes just to get the story heard we need to have radicals like these people out doing this, and that's fine. But to laud them for their actions as if they will have any long-lasting impact on the morality or conscience of the Japanese fleets is a little ridiculous. Will this help to get more people aware of what is happening? Maybe. But that is about all it is good for. The rest of it needs to happen politically. Butter, no matter how rotten, won't change any of this.
@Autofac
@Autofac 14 лет назад
@ameIPPAI My point wasn't that something should be done to keep them in check. Of course these are illegal and unethical fishing practices. My point is that blaring sirens and throwing rotten butter onto a ship that is not only better equipped to violently deal with those who oppose them but also more willing to use violence will accomplish nothing. I agree that something needs to be done, but I do not think that the "something" should be sticks of rotten butter.

O I forgot, I researched the Native American thing and it was in Washington State, apparently they restarted hunting whales, it was illegal because they weren't using it as a major food source anymore, but when they restarted, they tried to get permission in court, but the IWC refused so did the US, S.S. was there not to intervien this time, but to protest, because they new that since the Indians were part of the U.S. who also banned whaling that it would be stopped
@Lethal_Giggles
@Lethal_Giggles 15 лет назад
you mean the eskimos in Alaska. Guess what that band was on Commercial Whaling, not whaling for survival, theres a difference you know. While whaling for survival, meets the needs of the people who still practice it i.e. the The Native Americans kill only enough for them and there people about 50 whales a year, Commercial whaling and in this case "research" kill in large scale, the IWC has seen Japans "research" and are trying to stop them.

Claiming that morality is a very subjective term is absolutely no reason to shun it from your consciousness, or run away scared of it. I don't care about the legal impasse, you're the one that can't stop focusing on it and it's getting old. As for changing the law, the law is fine. It needs enforced. I'd love to settle this legal impasse by going to court. Japanese whalers vs. Sea Shepherd. I'd welcome that battle to begin yesterday. Japan has no interest.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
You can look through your narrow lenses and focus on Lamalera and Minke and whatever other diversion you want to focus on and miss the entire point. The purpose of conservationism is very broad. The reasons for it are profound. Like governments who forsake the future to party hearty now, conservationists understand that the true test of a moral society is the kind of world we leave behind to our children. The kids will have their own problems, they don't need more of them, caused by us.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
Just like government fiscal policy, and I should add fiscal IMMORALITY, grabbing the big credit card and spending the children's money to get this GDP back to positive growth as quickly as possible, blowing up the debt, blowing up the deficits, blowing up the money supply, not liquidating any of these toxic assets, the same philosophy exists towards nature. Blow it all to hell, and fuck the future. Sorry, but there comes a time to take a stand, and admit it, that that's not good enough.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
I'm glad you understand the side I'm on and the reason for it, but you don't understand well enough when you keep insisting on going back to a legal impasse that you're never going to get through by focusing on. The laws of man have destroyed 90% of ocean life and we are on a course for the same un-sustainability, the same insolvency, the same bankruptcy that the US government and Japanese government enjoy today. There is no moral equivalency to be found anywhere in your positions. None.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
The Sea Shepherds loophole is real, and exists. So that obviously isn't the differentiation that matters to you either. Someone always must take the law into their own hands. If laws are going to be enforced. Perhaps what matters to you is a bright shiny sheriff's badge or some formal bureaucrat on the high seas representing government authority. So you'll have to ask yourself who has authority in international waters, in a whale sanctuary, in a world where commercial whaling is illegal.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
I don't ignore there are estimated x number of any kind of whale. A liar calling others a liar. I should see what you call other people on RU-vid. And you side with whalers claiming they do "research" which is such obvious BS, clearly it's not the truth that distinguishes which side you take. So we have to go beyond truth, which is something you're agnostic to. As for Watson, he's honest and willing to die for what he believes in.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
If what Sea Shepherd is doing is so wrong then quit wetting your pants about it on a comments board on RU-vid, and make some phone calls and ask whoever you think the actual authorities are why they don't do anything about it. But I'll save you some time, your phone calls won't make a difference. In a legal impasse such as this, legality isn't going to be the exercise in differentiation that determines right from wrong.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
Destroying the world's oceans is morally repugnant. I don't need an opinionated teenager telling me that delicious meat is a moral equivalent of infinite ecological destruction of this planet. Commercial whaling is 100% illegal and that is without question. Japan is commercial whaling and it would never stand up in court that they weren't, that's why Japan is scared to death to take this issue up legally.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
If Minke whales in the Antarctic (spelling, it's good enough for you too) were all the fight was about, you'd have a point. The reason the Japanese whalers kill less than 900 whales per year of whatever kind shows up in front of their harpoon boats, is because of the Sea Shepherds. So you're basing a numbers argument on the Sea Shepherd's work and then asking me what the problem is. The problem, is less than what it otherwise would be.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
When Sea Shepherd shows up and starts interfering with Lamalera's (old-fashioned, "subsistence", as if that matters) whaling, then you'll have a relevant argument to connect one with the other. But the reality is, Sea Shepherd is going after Japan in a whale sanctuary 7000 miles from Japan and I'm sorry if you don't want to talk about that last big illegal whaler in the world left to defeat, but that's what 'Whale Wars' is all about.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
You're using Lamalera as an example to make generalities about all whaling. Commercial whaling is illegal. It doesn't matter how poor someone is when they do it. I won't feel bad for poor people and change my mind about universal laws and universal principles. You deviated the discussion away from what this video consists of and are focusing on a very tiny microcosm of whaling activity. The points you make therefrom will be just as tiny, relative to aggregate worldwide whaling.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
I'm not talking about whatever you were talking about to someone else. I showed up here having watched the video and I'm commenting on the video. Don't be so presumptuous that everyone who comes here to watch the video is going to continue your discussion about something else unrelated to the video material. 'Whale Wars' is filmed in Antarctic waters 7000 miles from Japan. That's what I'm here to discuss. Not whatever diversion you're referring to.
@RayGun56126
@RayGun56126 15 лет назад
You have no idea what you are talking about...fight, fight, fight. As a fishing vessel or any vessel for that matter make a stand & take abuse from a harassing vessel. It costs a lot of money to keep those boats out on the water (maintinence & insurance costs). Why stay there without the presence or repercussions of law enforcement and take abuse from the Steve Irwin. Why? So you can waste several man hours cleaning your decks instead of concentrating on the main purpose of that vessel.

And as for Canada and Norway, it's common knowledge at this point and they don't hide yet, but they haven't been arrested because, the charges were later dropped, except for the Canada convictions, which has been called into question because the members of S.S. couldn't attend their on trial to defend themselves, which is very wrong and messed up.

If what they're doing is so illegal, where's your sheriff to go get them and put them in jail. I'd really like to see anyone (who?) do this but until then, quit crying about it. You're becoming a real habit here of making up counterfactual untrue scenarios of "what-if" the Sea Shepherds do something (they haven't done) and then expecting a counterfactual answer.
@fifteenbyfive
@fifteenbyfive 15 лет назад
If you illegalize commercial whaling and then let Japan engage in commercial whaling and then tell me what they're doing is legal because you won't enforce it, I'll just accept enforcement from the passion of individuals instead of governments, otherwise the law, and the authority who wrote that law, is worthless to the world of man.

Yes, 7000 miles away. Get a map. Get the location where 'Whale Wars' is filmed. Draw a line to Japan. 7000 miles. All this blather about Lamalera has nothing to do with 'Whale Wars' or anything being shown in the video I am here to discuss, so please cease your irrelevant diatribes.

A country the size of Florida is the 2nd largest economy in the world, pound-for-pound the greatest economic superpower in human history, and you claim they're whaling 7,000 miles away from their own waters for their survival? Lies and name calling really aren't necessary.

What do you mean confirmation? The law is the law and they follow the Conservation of Nature to the Fullest, you don't need a lawyer to tell you to follow the law even the U.N. your just expected to do so and thats what there doing

no matter how childish they act toward the whalers, the fact is they didn't meet their quota. Those silly tactics work. The question is for how long, cause eventually the whalers will do the same in return ten fold.

ffs! I hate it when they stop in annoying places! Lol we should all rebel and not watch the next episode and say 'We won't watch if you stop in annoying situations' There lose money and put it the way we want. (=

And I'm glad you did your research and realized how wrong you were about what the IWC thinks of Japan's whaling quota. I had hope you could Google what I told you to and come back enlightened with the facts. I was mistaken.

Donations from US sources are reaching record levels and they have the #1 show on Animal Planet. The biggest ways of showing how Americans support the Sea Shepherds are financial. "U.N. Marines" not required.

@markbatch so they are killling whales??? what does that have to do with a bunch of glory hounds out there subverting the real law & taking matters that are not their concern into their own hands.

@ameIPPAI if those other ocean predators are eliminated as you say then the oceans will become overprolific not under, there will be more fish for food not less, your logic is flawed.

Because you obviously have no agenda with regard to whaling. Your persistence in posting the "lies" statements makes me realise how credible and genuine you must be. yeah, right...

They're responsible and accountable for everything they do. There are no exceptions to that. Whalers included. Take this matter to court by all means. It couldn't arrive soon enough.

the captain should have his license revoked. What an idiot for putting his crew in danger. Silly, let the fishing fleet fish in peace. It is a sustainable fishery.

Matt Kimura is a japanese Sea Shepherd: "When I told my students how the japanese whaling fleet intends to come down to Antarctica to slaughter 950 Whales annually, they let out this collective gasp. I didn’t need to explain about treaties, endangered species, research quotas, or sanctuaries. The children knew in their hearts that killing Whales was wrong. It was then that this all took a new meaning for me. I promised them I would do everything possible so the children have a world with Whales"
