While Diving Souza Rock on the Central california Coast Divers have a close call with HumpBack Whales. Camera men: Jay Hebrard Francis Antigua Jeremy Bonnett Shawn Stamback Aboard the Dive boat "Magic" of SLODIVERS
Whales??? I thought it was a synchronized swimming routine. The two big guys doing pirouettes and the two little guys simultaneously swimming to and jumping on the boat yelling “ohh shit!” 😂
Thanks. This video brings back many good memories. Dove the Channel Islands of So Cal from '85 into '90. Around '88 or '89, at the end of a dive off the island of San Miguel, some 15 of us divers on a commercial(Truth Aquatics) dive boat, we all complained about the krill school in the water, making a "clicking" sound. Suddenly, a humpback rose out of the water on his side with his mouth wide open and glided past the boat no more than 50 ft away. We all stood there in stunned silence.
Thank you to all that have viewed this video, it was just one of those times of being in the right place at the right time. We have dove this area before, but this time we were offered a new experiance that we will hold with us and share with others......
It's very unlikely verging on impossible for a -blue- humpback whale to eat a human. Their throats are less than a foot in diameter and they don't have teeth capable of shredding their prey. Worst case scenario would be getting trapped in it's mouth until you had a chance to escape (or drown). There are no recorded events of a -blue- humpback whale ever consuming a human, partially or whole.
Well smart ass even a 10 year old knows that but the scary part is as you can see in the video the diver had a very close encounter, if he was a little bit more on the right side the whale would actually take him in it's mouth god knows what would happen next. Stupid filthy casual
Whales are beautiful, majestic, intelligent creatures. I wouldn't be worried about being in the ocean with one, however I would be more afraid of potentially being attacked by a great white that thought I was a seal.
BallsDeepInGames Even though a great white shark will bite you and spit you out because they don't like the taste, the bite they take is enough to leave you bleeding to death. 😯😐
fenz1 He's right; they are unable to swallow anything large. They could take a human into their mouth but they would just spit it back out again due to the size of their gullet. I bet that would still tisch though!
I would swim over there and touch it, they would not eat you, and they would spit you out (In the rare case that it did eat you) due to how its throat is too small.
You know there has been no reports of diver swallowed and suddenly spat out. The whale will like effect the person but by then the diver is likely crushed or get water in the brain. Humans aren’t given preferable treatment just because their in the way.
humpback whales can't swallow a man whole. They have very small throats. And even so, they filter what they catch by forcing water through their baleen, and a human is quite the uncomfortable mouthful. I mean this is unbelievably cool, don't get me wrong, but the only danger those divers were really in would be the force o the whale's momentum as it breaches
They’re not stupid. Their mouths would never be able to process something as big as a human being. They deliberately went as close as possible to get as much of the shoal as they could without scooping the diver up.
I'll bet those whales knew EXACTLY where those divers were the whole time, and they were never in any real danger. Notice the pod of seals off to one side? The whales probably thought the divers were just wierd seals.
They are. I'd laugh so hard. Laughing is my way of saying "I am alive". What do you want me to do, cry that I did NOT die? It's a wonder, a miracle, something truly beautiful, the realization that you are alive amidst the uncertainty that is your daily grind. Not dying is definitely a reason for me to celebrate. I'd buy everyone cake if a bullet did NOT hit me when it actually should. Don't be glum, chum. Most people love living.
What would have happened..? "Tragic Story: Man swallowed by whale." Me: Waaahh...? Pinocchio wanna be? Or a documentary to the extreme. "Whats it like inside a whale." Or maybe they wanted to find Nemos dad!
Scuba is probably a lot safer than driving a car...people tend to consider things we don't understand as "dangerous" or "unsafe" - we shouldn't be slaves to ignorance.
okay, I don't understand why people are so sensitive. It's not like I said shoot the whale, just stay on land and you won't have to worry about getting swallowed by one. Derek get a life!
Laura Hale No one is being sensitive. We are correcting your misconception that SCUBA diving is dangerous, despite the fact that you are vastly more likely to die in a car accident on your way to work every day than you are doing SCUBA or skydiving.
My brother Markus Bott had been tortured during 5.5 years by the German BND,the former GESTAPO.I recorded more than 100 videotapes which ended up in the legal system. My brother was tortured 1.5 years while several legal procedures pending. He was assassinated on July 11th 2009 because of our homepage and our book Der Totalitäre Staat. My father was put in a nursing home. He was assassinated 10 months ago. If my homepage disappears, the BND will have assassinated me as well.
I worked on a whale watch boat in Provincetown I can say with absolute certainty that the whales were not trying to eat the divers! Nor would they be able to. Occasionally a bird gets caught in a whales mouth and they spit it out because the bird is too large.
Whales have a melon to sonar echo locate. This whale obviously knew exactly where the fish were and exactly where the snorkelers/divers were. It's ability to precisely move through the ocean and position itself with extreme coordination far exceeds the men in the wetsuits. Even if this humpback whale deliberately attempted to eat the men, it would have been practically impossible - they would have bounced off the whale's baleen inside its mouth.
Imagine if those whales had accidentally grabbed that line and pulled them all down. I have to imagine a couple of 100,000 pound whales could have unintentionally done some major damage lol
If a friend of yours almost got run over a car, would you still laugh? If a friend of yours almost got shot, the bullet just missing their head, would you still laugh? Close encounters with death are never a laughing matter.
Doing a little research, but I can't find any record of a whale in the wild ever killing or eating a person. It's safe bet it has happened at least once, perhaps accidentally or incidentally. It seems that wild whales tend to almost ignore people, or run away from them.
