begs the question - what fecking maniac dreamed up the idea of sticking a great big reservoir above a town ???

Whoever builds their house at the base of a dam or under the dams water level down stream has always been an idiot to me.

It is nearly 200 year old dam what do you expect. Personally i wouldn't be dumb enough to live behind a dam

I would just like to say, thank you to all the firemen, police, helicopter piolets, all envolved, thank you for saving the chippy.

There is no danger there. It is cosmetic damage. Sheer exaggeration. Dropping sand bags with choppers totally waste of tax payers money and those sand bags have to be removed, that will cost more money. The wall behind earth hold the water, that wall is intact, the erosion moved some earth and concrete slabs that earth has no load bearing duty there. Rest assured.

I think this is seriously over dramatised. the damage is to the 'dry' side of the dam caused when water flowed over the top; there's no leak and no reason to believe that the important 'wet' side is in anyway impaired. I guess they will have to drain it and check but I'd bet it's fine and they just need to repair the run-off panels on the dry side. In a few weeks I'll be back to say 'told you' !

In the end- nothing happened! Residents allowed back into their homes, dam didn't burst, no one got killed or injured and the health and safety, hi viz jacket doom mongers got their kicks. Oh and it all cost millions and quillions of pounds.

Who designed, approved, and built this Death Trap anyway? Seriously poor design, with little care it would seem.

Don’t you think green foliage next to the dam is a clue? It looked liked it over flowed and the bags are to keep it from overflowing until they drain it down to proper limits...
