This depends on 2 things.. 1-Your grades-You need a university pass to be accepted at university which is a higher grade. 2-The field of study...Hospitality..studying to become an electrian,etc is either done at college or technikon. Differences in accents in South Africa - This is or was based largely on ethnicity. This is why to you some South Africans sounded British. Some South Africans have a British accent because we were colonised by the British. Some have a Dutch sounding accent.. because yes.. We were colonised by the Dutch as well. Their first language is usually Afrikaans. The people who you said look like Hispanics they are mixed race. Mixed race people have accents of their own. Our Black South Africans also have their own accent,because they speak other languages as well, like Zulu, Sotho, Xhosa. We also have Indian South Africans who have their own accents. Our Freedom children, which refers to children born after the abolishment of the apartheid regime do not necessarily fall into these categories.. i. e. groups people belong to as per division of the racist regime. We have become more of a melting pot celebrating diversity.. Accents are now more determined by which schools and areas kids grow up in.
