Well I knew the mackerels and tunas were everywhere in the bay; I just didn’t go! My parents had been overseas. I’d been left in charge of everything back home hence I held back. It had been a torture for me seeing so much fish caught yet unable to take a bite of that pie! My parents came back a week ago so it was game on!!
We set off from Fisherman’s island this morning around 8am. Lateness due to morning hour traffic! Couldn’t really complain. There were other commuters going past wishing they were were fishing instead! 🤣😂After a quick trip we arrived at Measured Mile. It was a faster trip than normal taking just over 30mins. Weather was kind with flat seas and barely a breeze. We spent a good 2hours without any luck. We tried gathering livies too but only managed 2 herrings.Around 10-11am my dad suggested we try 4 Beacons. I wouldn’t had mind spending the day at Measured Mile, fish or no fish but would love a crack at four Beacons. Weather was calm with little to wind as we arrived. There were a few other vessels there pulling in schoolies on pilchards. We quickly joined.
All fish caught today were at 4 Beacons. There were heaps of baits, heaps of mackerel and a few blistering runs which showed definite trademarks of a longtail. We hooked onto a few of these freight trains but were unable land any. Mackerels were in abundance though taking both lives as well as pillies and slugs! It was a perfect combo! We finished up and until 4:30pm thereabout. Stopped a bit for a few flicks at Measured Mile on the way in but no luck. Trip back was bloody hairy! 20knot winds and 1-1.5m swells. The boat made it back safe and sound but I swore there were a few moments where I thought I soiled my pants 🤣😂
We came home with 19 school mackerels and a large spotty. All onboard were dehydrated and red from sunburn 🤣😂👌 We’d do it again in a blink of an eye though:)
