I remember Alfie and wee Willie Henderson owned my local the Barnyard bar in Coatbridge they were both really good guys and I remember them both playing too, Alfie for both old firm clubs and Willie for Rangers and I wish them both well and hopefully they have healthy happy lives, God bless them both.
120k at Hampden was really 150k & all football crowds in Scotland were about 20% higher than the official attendances as 80% of children got in for nothing, getting lifted over the then waist height turnstiles. You would just stand at the side of the turnstile entrance asking all the men paying in for "a punt" until one said "Aye" and lifted you over.
@@JI7NKJ We beat Dundee to win the league in 88 and official attendance was just over 60k but must have been about 80k as the whole stadium was packed with people ending up on the running track behind the goals. remember listening Clyde going home and fat Derek Johnstone laughing when the attendance was given and him making some disbelieving comment.
I remember Alfie working behind the Bar at The Captains Rest boozer on Great Western Road about 25 years ago, but never talked to him. I put a black square over his face on my Rangers poster after he joined Shelfco.
Celtic fan, lost my father to MND, fantastic of Alfie to donate proceeds to charity, only two men to cross the great divide in Glasgow but I would only buy one of them a pint haha.
