I was interested in this video by the title of the talk, and agreed with Susan Carter while watching it as that it's often important in the healthcare system as to use not only your mind, but heart when it comes to making significant decisions that will overall end up affecting patients. The patient care is what is the goal, and like Susan points out, it's easy for healthcare individuals to forget why they're involved in the career they are, which is what causes problems by looking at money and numbers and not the patients instead. By health professionals feeling empowered, they will be more willing to achieve quality work and search for all best possible outcomes for their patient. I also agree with Susan that its essential for people to feel valued and important because in order to give the best care to others, they need to feel at the top and that they're working towards a major goal. Last, I feel that even though this topic may not be something frequently discussed in the healthcare system or addressed as a major concern, it is something that should be observed because is indeed important.

Someone told me that the only way you can become a leader is by loving what you do. When you least expected, you would be a leader helping and inspiring others do what you love and you would let others love the same thing if possible. Moral courage is what a leader needs too.

Susan Carter talks about how sometimes health professionals lose sight of why they came to want to work in the health field, and they focus more on the numbers and time lines. There is a high volume of demands for doctors and health professionals alike. Susan explains how focus can shift from giving the best patient care to producing the best numbers, which is not the route health care professionals should be seeking. Health professionals should feel empowered in the work place, whether it be working in groups; like Susan said. She made a good point when saying that they should feel valued, remembering why they got into this profession: to help others. To help others, the best they can, they need to be in the best state of mind. This could change healthcare tremendously.

There is a far less philosophical reason for the amounts of stress and dissatisfaction in the current health care system amongst its staff; much of this is the inevitable result of current LEAN strategies wherein you must do more with less in order to maximize privatized profits for the organization while wages and infrastructure become stagnant. And when the bottom falls out due to stresses upon the system from any number of external factors (I see you Corona) it's up to the individual to pick up the slack. And if you show the slightest negativity then you are not a team player and it is you who are causing the issue. And if you don't like it, there are thousands of new graduates who are eager to take you place.
