I'd welcome a more fleshed out farming simulation - crops and flowers that take one or two real time days to grow but also need daily care to keep growing and which need a bit fancier, harder to craft, bigger farming mounds. And since a save slot is bound to a single home world, there might be a possiblity to integrate a simple mobile push system where you install a mobile app on your phone and your home realm sends you occassionally updates and infos on grown crops for example or events going on in your home realm. And it could send one or two exciting items from a new patch to check out, too. Something that kinda nudges a player back to the game, their save slot and offers them something nice when they return. As long as you don't force it onto players a lot of players would probably install an app for something like this. And for security and pairing a simple QR code ingame, unique to the player and their home realm would suffice, because all it does is broadcasting - zero personal data, input into the game or world manipulation by the app.

Fae realms being more... abstract aesthetically? feel free to lean into the outlandish there! Please, Work on Gear variety and creativity! Along with enemies! Shock traps, Bear traps be cool. More outlandish effects would be neat. Piercing ammo, attacks that slow enemies or disorient. Unique Attacks that will drag enemies together on hit, or knockback enemies. Modifiers such as more damage at night, effects that burn enemies, etc. Biome specific effects would be cool too. Swamp poison, Desert burns, all of that! Maybe a system that let's us "tune" gear to a set bonus ourselves with rare materials. Grind for those rare materials and we can attach them to the gear. Edit: Ammo that pings between mutliple enemies! Guns that shoot thorns, Swords that shatter and reform on hit, Hammer's that return on command!

The biggest thing keeping me from playing long term is there's zero RPG progression - it's all just gear and buildings. With how grindy the game is, there's not much to push you to keep playing if that's your jam. I'd like to see character skill trees and things... This rank of "whatever" allows you to carry more, or attack faster, etc. just something, anything would be better than pushing it all into a loot grind.

Seconding the RPG progression. Also, it would be nice to not have to unlock worse gear than what I'm wearing.

The realm system is your most unique feature, I think fleshing out the RPG elements of that is the most exciting to me. The idea of crafting your zones for specific rewards is so cool (reminds me of Path of Exiles mapping endgame).

In this same system I would love to see further variety. Rare ones I can only find as low drop rates from things that maybe open a realm thats especially unique - i think like the goblin loot realms and secret cow levels of diablo for reference. The more unique realms I can visit the more I want to keep exploring!

I'm most hopeful about the adventure element being reinforced more. I tend to think of it more as exploration. The procedural generation and beauty of the game is a masterpiece. I feel like leaning into this strength is the key. Whether that's a ton more quests, farming recipes from exploring, or something else. I want a "reason" to wander around and explore. Something to immerse myself in. Some ideas: 1) I would like to see all of the markers on the map removed until discovered. I have to "find" the essence trader, portal, etc. 2) Maybe NPCs are not always on the map? Breaks the immersion that every antiquarian forest has the same NPCs. Maybe major cards named after the NPC name? Or minor cards to add an essence trader? 3) Portals similar to dungeons but to other realms. With pre-applied minor cards (maybe multiple, so it's something I can't do myself). Could even go crazy on these ones and make them broken. All that said, I understand there are limits to what the system currently does, your own direction, and what is reasonable to implement with the time you have. Super excited see "Nightingale, but better"! :)

Love the game! That said, the game feels limiting in that there are 3 biomes and a linear progression of levels. It doesn't feel like an exploration, but a linear sequence. Please add card combinations like Forest-Provisioner-Caves-Acid Rain (or whatever). Rather than just a LV30 forest, you could have a LV38 forest with unique combinations of elements like toxic weather and additional caves or specific rare enemies (hags in the swamp, ekythra-types or pixies in the forest, etc). Adds to the variety of the realms, gives you a reason to return to provisioner forest after you've completed it, makes it feel like an exploration. I would love to go back to the Astrolabe Swamp to find a clockwork frog leg, because I found a rare Clockworks card that makes the creatures into clockwork varieties.
@bwdnako
@bwdnako Месяц назад
Yeah, the most upsetting part about your comment/suggestion. That was the realm system, shortly before EA, they overhauled it and turned it into the current, major and minor system where you can apply one modifier in realm. Previously, you would stack cards when creating the realm. So you could make super crazy and unique realms. The cards would have a difficulty based on the components used to make the cards. So you had a more sliding scale of difficulty than the current system.

I think the biggest issue and the reason why I quit playing for now is the completely repetitive content. The gameplay is the same four puzzles from start to finish. And yeah, the maps get somewhat sameish after a while. That's why I enjoyed the story quests. Because it was something different.
@eurechel
@eurechel Месяц назад
I agree with this. The pieces are all amazing, unique, and the first time a ton of fun. As it repeats though, it loses the luster. Pretty soon it begins to just be grind for essence, hit the trader, gear up, and go to the next area to repeat.

I have put 300 hours into playing Nightingale in Online mode since June 29th, and the most annoying thing is the color of my characters clothing. if this takes place in the Victorian era they obviously know how to use dyes and pigments to color their clothing. (FYI dyes have been used in clothing since 3000 BC) The ads and videos show the characters in colorful clothing, but you quickly need to ditch that stuff to wear better gear and as you progress and use hides and fibers you end up only wearing browns and tans. i have tried other animals and I end up with pinks and purple or green and light green camouflage. This is a major issue that needs addressed. I appreciate your work in changing the realms to not seem 'samey' and to allow more structure limits. as I decorated my estate with a bunch of lights I noticed I was suddenly at the max building limit.
@Samuitsuki

I agree. And we need transmog too. I often end up playing barbie in those kind of games... :D It would also be cool if we could get some fae inspired clothing that would go a bit crazier on the designs.

Allow for multiple minor realm cards be active at the same time - and allow them to be added at realm generation to affect things like more caves, more fabled creatures,etc. When things have the same stats, let them stack. But also make more types of materials available. Allow for more crafting loops. The reclaimed ingot loop definitely broke things, but ingredients made of mixed materials should be usable in more recipes. Gilded lumber works as lumber - now make an equivalent for ingots and fiber/cloth/fabric. You've already hit the building limits thing, which is also extremely important, especially once you're through the story (so far).

It's great you mentioned how you put off future plans to focus on updates, with this game being in early access I think it's crucial to flesh out the core of the game and address critical issues long before starting to work on additional content. People (like myself) will always come back to the game to explore new content but they'll never hang around for long if the issues they had with it to begin with were never addressed.

I want to see the fae realms look more like the fae realms and less like the human world with a few changes. Like a mix of Journey to the Center of the Earth mixed with Lewis Carol's Wonderland. Gaslight Fantasy is really core to Nightingale and honestly, it's a pretty novel adventure path is regards to other game of the survival / RPG genre so keep that up, it's awesome! There is an inherent appeal to your worlds, and it really makes us want to push further the boundaries of reality, which the cards, the creatures, the difficulty levels and all those nice things do bring up, but once you've discovered where item tiers are and it becomes a grind of trying to find the randomly placed POIs, it loses a lot of its charm... it's a bit hard to put into words but keeping alive the "thirst" for discovery would really make it all more fun! Fea magic is also very interesting, so if we could use more of it (shapeshifting, local landscape or reality alterations, illusions, etc.), it would spice up combat a lot!
@gonzowilson

I agree with this so much after progressing pretty good into the game. I have a few quests that are overlapping in their text descriptions some say to go talk to this person when a different in-progress quest is from said person. Not sure if I lost progress somewhere but I feel if I have the second quest active then it should mute out the previous one telling me to talk to them. After taking some time off from the game and coming back, I can really see how muddy the quest system can get if your picking up multiple quests at a time from different realms.
@Mallbia
@Mallbia 19 дней назад
@gonzowilson I completely agree. Would love to see an overhaul of the quest system. I'd love to see a main story line quest category and a side quest category. It's be nice to have more main story line quests implemented because I don't consider the weapon quests appart of the story lore it doesn't add to the understanding of nightengale. Like are we ever getting back to nightengale? What really happened when people were forced into the fae realms?

I love the game as it is, but... the biggest thing to me was the ability to play in a group with my friends, and unfortunately each of them was unsatisfied for their own reasons. Hoping the update will take care of what they felt was lacking. Build variety and more hand-holding through the narrative were two items on that list, so happy to hear those on your list as well!

You're right, the procedural generation is great. It could stand some tweaking like adding more terrain features (rivers that go through short/long tunnels on the way to the ocean, maybe with pools and caverns, please! The existing cave options get repetitive in large part because they are not procedurally designed, only procedurally placed in certain sections of the realms), but it's definitely a really positive and impressive aspect of the game.

IF the relationship between The Workbenches and Augments were better, Remove the Augment limts on the workbenches, and allow the Augments to benefit all of the workbenches in a Radial Area of Effect woud be GREAT. Aside from the build limits and the realms being really similar overall, my only complaint is how few creatures there are. There are so many fae creatures and criptids out there that could be used to fill up the world. Not everything has to be hostile, but I can think of many strange and fantastical creatures that I feel have a place in the realms. The realms definitely need more biomes and variations though. Some more bright peaceful vibe places would do good to break up the brooding dark atmosphere we’re often stuck in during the grind of the game. Edit: I forgot optimization. This game should not be taking so much to run smoothly with my 3070 and 32gb 😅

To me, personally, the biggest thing standing in the way of the exploration aspect of Nightingale, is the Faetowers. Revealing every P.O.I. and event by reaching the top of the Faetowers is the opposite of a reward for somebody who enjoys organic exploration! It's the core mechanic that has turned me off Ubisoft titles. Make stuff appear on the map when we look at the location with the binoculars or a similar piece of gear, instead - that would be a big step up, imho.

I love the game and have spent a lot of time in it. I like it so much I've bought it for my friends, but they've stopped playing, because we've quickly ran out of things to do other than farming purple essence. The world is beautiful, but I lack reason to explore it and revisit old locations, other than unlocking recipes. The boss variants, mechanics and combat are a bit lackluster, preventing dungeons from being an engaging and thrilling experience. - I'd love more RPG elements, talent tree, character progression and classes, so I have a reason to start and try new character - More quests to drive gameplay, we need more reasons to visit all the vast realms - I'd love to see magic outside of item enchantments - improving random generated dungeons in the endgame, more bosses and mechanics, bigger variety to dungeons layouts, more reason to run them other than essence farm - We need better icons for different materials, their tiers and unique traits (predator vs prey) to easier distinguish them in inventory without having to read all text.

Some recommendations in my opinion: For the devs: I Am a Accounting System Dev and one of the most asked thing from our clients is fast response time for problems and fixes, so with that in mind, I really thing that you guys need 2 teams: a small one to work on fixes, small updates and things to release in a short-term time and a bigger one to work on future bigger updates, like DLC's, reworks, maybe new crafting materials, realms and etc. I don't know if with your teams and the profit from the game that is possible, but its just a recommendation, do what you guys want. For Ideas: I really love the crafting of this game, but I feel it lacks unique materials, like, copper is a starter material, OK, but why don't give it something to think about in using in the future? I know it can be used to craft alloys, bu even the Alloys isn't great. New materials, mainly for endgame people, I think its important, I did a lot of research and its simply always the same materials that is the best to do specific things. Its just my opinion and feedback. The realm mechanic of yous game is incredible, but lack variety, I have some friends that stopped playing before reaching The Watch. They stopped playing just because it is always the same: create a realm, collect everything that you don't have yet, do some POIs, end the tower and return, with some cases with missions. But it is lacking variety, if you enter 2 florests, they will have basicly the same thing, enemies, ores, POIs in different locations but same POIs, and the tower. So the feedback is: more variety of things to do in realms and more realm types. For now is this but thanks for the game, it is very unique and I recommend for almost everyone that I play together. Its insane that this is in Early Access, I know that this game has a insane potential for the future, so continue the good work to create this beautiful game. Obs: sorry for my english if it is wrong anywhere, its not my main language

What I've had the most fun with is the various materials and how they interact with each other in crafting. The absolutely absurd combinations you can make with the right materials. What I'd like to see is further deepening of these systems. The ability to maybe influence material stats, grow your own wood for example, to imbue it with new effects or improve already existing ones. Maybe change the ambient magical levels around ores to similar effects? Maybe a few different, non-damage or damage-adjacent stats? Keep up the good work, lads!

I think we're in a spot where content is for sure what could make this game much better. It could be more events like the Hope event, adding more resource scouting options like a scanner of some kind to spot specific ores to better find things to further customize gear, and for sure more magic options. At the moment I don't necessarily have a reason to remain playing content-wise I think as I have multiple different sets of endgame armor and equipments and finished all the side objectives which was my initial goal when I really started to understand the game.

I'd like to see some enemy progression throughout the leveling. We fight the same enemies on low level as high level, just with added health and damage. Little things like a monster doing some more moves or adding things like poison on higher levels while lower level versions don't have that would highly improve the experience we have on higher levels. I love the idea of this game and all the improvements you guys are adding to it, but for long term enjoyment i highly recommend thinking about making the experience different for different levels so we keep engaged. Thanks for all the work your studio is doing, as well as the out-of-the-park transparency you've had with the community! I play a lot of games in early access where the dev team isn't NEARLY as commnicative with the players, and it's really great that you all are. I have three suggestions; one which I think is absolutely needed, one which would be an accessibility feature, and one that's just a wishlist item that would be neat to see, but isn't necessary. The first: complete controller support. I can more or less play the game with my controller, until I get into menus, and then it becomes more K&M friendly. Personally, playing keyboard and mouse games tend to make my hands hurt, and I find it a lot more comfortable to play on controller, so I hope this is something you have on your radar to improve. Second: Having the option to chance text size would be a great accessibility feature. I haven't played in a while because the last time I did I got a headache from trying to read some of the small text lol. And lastly: With the game having fae influence, I think it would be really neat if there was some more explicit magic weapons. Maybe like staves that you find after completing a quest that gives you access to a few magic attacks. It would be really neat to feel a sense of accomplishment and rewardment after a wacky fae quest and come out weilding magic that you experienced while doing the quest. But this is just a personal wish, since I usually go mage class in most games I play if given the option lol Again, thanks for all your hard work, team. Y'all're doing great!

Soooo rooting for y’all! I absolutely looooooove the whole concept: making a place that uses poetic intrigue to compels us to explore and to be a part of it, and using design, pacing, and procedural tech to give it enough detail and varied activities to be engaging for the long term. It seems that last part is where the current challenges are. Hearing your strategies, I think you are on exactly the right path. You are addressing every single issue I had with it and seem to understand the problems well. I dig this game so much, but started to see some of the areas needing improvement so I stopped playing it because I don’t want to spoil it. I want to see your final vision as my first play through. Thought I am tempted all the time to jump back in to see what you’ve created and, more importantly, to support you. I bet I’m not alone. You are on time something very special. Stay the course!

We need more Realms types. Three is very repetitive. A Mountain biome, a Jungle or Rainforest biome, maybe even a Mushroom Forest biome or Tropical Island biome. Just a few ideas for a start. Yes, there's different types of each basic Realm, but they just are the same basic environment with mostly the same resources. And yes, I agree with everyone that we need more of an overarching adventure to be excited about as well.

My biggest wishlist is a DLC or "director's Cut" version that heralds back to the Original Pre Early access version. While I love the new updates, I do sometimes wish I could go back and just leisurely enjoy the massive voice and text content of the beta testing era. I would purchase and play both the current/future version of the game and the OG. they are both enjoyable in their own way.

I refuse to play until you completely revamp the crafting system, it feels horrible to have 20 different materials.... of the same material, find a different way to add substats cause the current iteration makes me want to go get a masters in thermodynamics. Also here let me help you with the biomes.. Winter, Fall, Summer, Spring, Desert, Ice, Swamp, Lava, Mangroves, Caverns, Meadows, Crystalline, Clouds, Caves, Mushrooms, Toxic... you have so many great options to choose from just look at other games and implement them in your own vision.

I enjoyed the game a lot at early access first release. There's plenty to do. The gameplay loop is satisfying. The crafting system is beyond my wildest dreams. If you're doing that, but better, I'm all in. Maybe smoother and better balanced combat would be my suggestion

for me, things that make games like this long term playable would be RPG style progression, especially those where you can somewhat specialise your character. i.e sneaky crossbow guy, gun-ho bang bang guns guy or super intelligent "find another way around" guy, orglass cannon magic guy etc. if theres literally only one way to complete objectives, i.e go to point a, kill stuff, go to point b, kill stuff, go to point c collect stuff etc. it gets old fast. give players the chance to flex their Brians and dont handhold too much. one thing ive also learned from titles like theif, cyberpunk ,helldivers is that cinematic stuff is cool too. big buildings falling down, massive monsters. cool combat flow or ability to "ghost" an entire area if you like. choices basically. also, while the realm system is super cool, ive always felt that cards instead of runes were an odd choice. not an expert but fae /pagan stuff was all creepy runic based stuff in things ive read. using learned alchemy techniques to make up new runes would be better i think, rather than just gathering more and more complex resources to make playing cards, but thats just me. anything thats more interesting than just grinding for resources! last thing, dozens of crafting tables is janky as balls. surely better gameplay wise to have 2 or 3 crafting/alchemy/cooking benches which can be used to make everything? ones which you can imbue with better runes to enable better recipes..? combine all three of those things and i think the gameplay loop would be more satisfying and less grindy, but i know sod all about making games :D

Maybe work on finishing up and finalizing some of the unfinished systems you have in the game already. There are a lot of elements where is clear you've changed your mind on something but left remnants of the previous versions in the game.

I think the game has great foundations so far. You did an amazing job with how building works, combat is unique and has good ideas but needs a little more in terms of player strategies and systems that interact and play off each other. The realmwalking is cool but it can be kind of cumbersome to manage half a dozen portals with no labels, and as many have said there's a fairly repetitive nature to it all. Having more varied biomes would be great, even having larger realms with multiple biomes could be good. Would love to see more about the fae realms, and have some more exotic, magical biomes to explore. Something that could really help with keeping exploration interesting is to have lots of random world events that can occur, and introducing perhaps an intricate system for hunting various creatures, where the player has to learn about the types of creatures that can exist and look for clues that point to what sort of creature is wreaking havoc in the area, then they can use environmental clues like tracks to seek out their prey and then the fight itself could require a certain combat approach to effectively deal with it, though making it too restrictive could pigeonhole players into having only one strategy that works. I would love to see more fashion in game, and more life in each world. Your art team is awesome and I want to see them get even crazier. Having some unique weather events that can cycle through in realms could be interesting for survival. More modes of transportation could be interesting, extracurricular activities players can engage in with friends so there's just a bit more to do during downtime, perhaps like a skeet shooting thing you can build at your base to practice your gunplay, or like a small portal where you can practice and compete with friends in hunting certain creatures in a pocket realm. Even having musical instruments with a basic control input to play/compose music with people similar to BDO, Warframe, or Sea of Thieves.

My biggest Wishlist item for an update? I have a few suggestions but my biggest would be a reason to choose NPC X over Y or Z. For some context, I have only gotten as far as unlocked the Hunt and Gloom cards. The NPC"s you recruit, all feel the same to me with the only difference I've noticed is how they look... and their names. Maybe give them a random special bonus like increased rifle damage or increased wood harvest or something along those lines but only for the NPC, not you. Give me a reason to recruit that NPC and give me a reason to equip them with better tools. As I said, I'm not that far into the game (I'm playing with two other friends and it's not easy getting together to play) so I'm sorry if this already exists.

Instead of having offline and online characters, with servers hosted by you guys, how about making the game itself the host, so that the guy inviting everyone is the host. That would also enable us to play a character, as offline OR online. and therefore have the ability to play whenever, however we want, and as a bonus, I dont have to do everything twice, one as offline, one as online. Especially as someone with spotty internet that would help.

8 minutes is a very long time to say so little.. I'd actually prefer to see groundfloor developers and what they are working on, rather than the management and their visions.. NG was one of the very few games I completely played through, and I gave some through feedback after I was done. I think what I'd love to see are more skyboxes, better progression, more POIs and more randomization. Something like extreme or 1 use realms.. Basically MORE of what you added. More variety in monsters, and realms to explore. Also a reason to replay the game would be nice.

This. Completely this. Eight minutes of my life i will never get back in exchange for not one promised meaningful feature. No new biomes, no changes to the way minor cards are handled... not even a promise of a timeline to complete the removal of placeholder assets. There is a reason i've not come back in months.

Dyeing cloths and more endgame content :) It would also be nice to add some sort of ultra rare , special, endgame material that gives good random stats. This way when finishing everything there is to do, we could always hop into realms to play some more, hoping to find something better than more of titans fingernails/ einadia. Oh, and maby some sort of higher tier variants of lower tier firearms. Theyre just too beautifull to cast them away just because you unlocked better ones.

Exploits like the water bottle essence multiplier was just stupid fun. Felt like playing the slots without losing money. Should've just let us have fun, wasn't hurting anybody. I stopped going back after the patches. Used the free essence mostly just to buy building materials. Thanks for the single player mode thou. Too little too late now, maybe mods will bring players back.

I love the concept of Nightingale, but it could be so much more. I miss progression, discovery, adventure and working towards a goal. It's a beautiful game, but it just feels shallow. The combat is just not that fun either. But please...do something about the UI, the UI design is really terrible. It's impossible to immerse yourself, it's all in your face with so much text. You are looking at the game through the UI. I wish you all the best and maybe I will give the game another chance in the future after all the changes.

Thanks for the video, I'm on board with where you're taking the game. I don't know what you're using to post process the audio, but it makes you sound really creepy and robotic, especially poor Neil! Can you dial it back just a little? It's tragic if even the non-AI videos end up sounding like AI.

Excellent talk. Very informative. Looking forward to your efforts to improve the overarching gameplay objectives or storylines. And there are certainly many people that will be very happy to hear about the increased building limits and future building objects you are adding to the game. Early access is challenging for a game that started strongly with a vision and is now provided input from thousands for you to help shape it. It isn't worthwhile step in a long run even if it is challenging for a game studio. Keep up the excellent work by your entire team, and we look forward to seeing the new realms and great goals The Faye and realm walkers alike learn to create together in the future.
