Great to see Chase the Summit giving compliments to a fellow RU-vidr in the same space. Plenty of views to go around for all! Just goes to show you are both good dudes.
@@ChaseTheSummit You guys both are the top dog reviewers in my opinion. I enjoy you both equally.. Good to see you supporting each other, speaks volumes. You both rock..
As my first Garmin, I went for the fenix 7 pro. I also have an Apple Watch 7. I took the fenix 7 pro hiking in the Rockies a couple weeks ago and it SAVED me from going off trail. When I started to go off the trail it notified me and led me back. The battery life was fantastic. Yes, I miss the smart features on the Apple Watch but I like a watch to look like a watch and not have battery anxiety while hiking. Yes, I could have gotten the Apple Watch ultra but it pretty much the same exact Watch as the 7 with only a day better battery, a siren and an action button (unneeded). When I lift weights at the gym I bring my Apple Watch for workouts because Garmins weightlifting app is clunky. So far, I’m really enjoying it and plan to have it many years. If, in the future Apple decides to have better navigation like Garmin I may switch back. Until then, Garmin ftw.
I think your AW / Fenix combo is the best of both worlds. I use both also. I also find the Garmin watches a bit awkward with how many button presses it takes to input details. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Thanks for a nice succinct run down on the new PRO version. I have the F7SS which has multi band. I run with a chest strap. Optical HR sensor & flash light not game changes for me. Glad Garmin are respecting owners of the previous model and rolling down new software features.
Some of those map features will be a nice update. I'm still a little unsure if the endurance score or hill score will end up being all that helpful. We'll see. Thanks Rob!
Awesome reviews today. So glad you got the new watches! Loved the Fenix intro - holy cow so good. You are the true cinematographer of all the reviewers! I am the least haha. Great job on the subscriber growth. You are killing it.
Not sure if this is a new thing, but I’m glad to see that you got an early review model. If that’s the case, it goes to show that all your hard work is being recognized!
I upgraded from 5 to 7X essentially because of the flashlight. It is such a useful feature and I use it quite a lot. The only down side is the 51mm that is too big. Now that the flashlight comes at the 47mm I will sell the 7X and go for the 47mm with thr flashlight.
I think that's a great call Leandro. I love the flashlight on these devices and for me, the 47mm is the perfect size. I can get used to other size watches but I tend to drift back to this watch size. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
love the small watches . good move on Garmin's side. a-lot of men these days have small wrists but i love how they kept the light functionality and solar . just in a smaller package! 100 thumbs up for Garmin and this Video
I got the 7S Pro because I've experienced first hand how too large a watch interferes with proper function: i had a Polar Grit X Pro but they only make one size and nothing was ever accurate not too mention it was causing irritation because of constant rubbing. So i got the 7S, love it, I'm new to Garmin and still navigating that learning curve 😅 i get a solid 8 days battery life with all the settings on at full blast, it tracks my hikes and my workouts everyday and the health stats are awesome. Wonderful watch ❤
That 7S Pro is a really fantastic watch. The flashlight is so underrated. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I have a Fenix 7 and whilst these look decent upgrades, not enough for me to upgrade. I admire the way that Garmin are making good incremental upgrades to the Fenix & Epix models as well as providing the software updates to older models which can support these new features on the existing hardware. As long as they keep doing this I will stay invested in the Garmin ecosystem. Very impressed with the new Epix and can see in the next generation that I may upgrade to an Epix 3. My partner has a Venu2 and I am amazed at the battery life she gets with the OLED screen. Not at all interested in Smartwatches like Apple watch as I don't want to charge a device every day and can't see me ever wanting anything other than notifications on a watch.
The battery life on the Epix watches is still significantly less than the Fenix watches if you use that always on display mode. (that's the way I use mine) I think waiting is smart. Max out the value of that Fenix 7. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the Epix 3. 👍
@@Panagiotis-Skordilis - Some of those guys do a great job. I'm a big fan of DesFit, Chase the Summit and DCRainmaker. Different channels for sure but those guys make good stuff. 👍🏻
Hey Matt, awesome videos! Been watching a lot of your videos and recently subscribed to your channel because I am finally upgrading my watch and considering either Garmin 965, Coros Apex Pro 2, and since this Fenix 7 PRO came out included this in my short list. I am more of a road runner on my day-to-day but but do participate in 50-100km+ trail races a few times a year as well. Just wondering on your preferred watch among the three? Thanks again!
Among those three, I would probably say the new Fenix 7 Pro. I absolutely love the flashlight and I think you'd enjoy that extreme battery life for the really long 100k trail runs. The maps would be a bit sharper on the 965 but that's the tradeoff. Keep me posted on what you end up with and how you like it.
I'm beginning to see these with some healthy price reductions (I guess as the Fenix 8 is imminently due). Really thinking of picking one up as an upgrade on my Forerunner 945. Thanks as always for the solid review.
The flashlight is an awesome addition here. It’ll be interesting to see what the Fenix 8 has to offer. I’d probably wait and see but there is also Amazon Prime day which will have some discounts available. 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Matt, as always beautiful shots congratulations, I also love the flashlight that garmin integrates in their latest watches and I wanted to ask you if you had tried if there are differences in brightness (torch brightness) between the new epics / fenix pro and the instinct 2X released a few days ago, as always thanks for the video and once again greetings from Italy.
Here's my quick test: Enduro 2: 23 lux Fenix 7S Pro: 15 lux Instinct 2X: 18 lux Epix Pro: 20.5 lux This is just the watches that I have on hand and these were all set at the highest brightness levels.
Very useful to know your wrist size, your preferred watch size, and how it fits. I'm a woman with about the same wrist size, currently wearing a forerunner 245, and wanting to upgrade to a 955 or fenix 7. I've tried on my son's fenix 3hr (51mm), which doesn't even look that bad on me, but is just way too chunky, but I also know that newer models aren't as thick anymore.
In this video I show my wife running with the 42mm size. She prefers the smaller sizes but once you get used to the bigger watches it's not too bad. I think both the 955 or Fenix 7 would be excellent update options. The Fenix is nice because of it's sizing options. There's also huge sales on the Fenix 7 (non Pro).
@@mlegrand The 42 mm looks to be the perfect size for your wife, but you didn't mention her wrist size, so I assumed she has smaller wrists. I haven't completely written off 42 mm yet, but the thought of a thicker forerunner 245 doesn't seem all that appealing. It's a hard decision!
@@theghostofpcs2391 - Her wrist size is actually very similar to mine and she feels the same way you do about the thickness. I still haven’t found the perfect watch for her. Maybe waiting is an option if your 245 is still working decently?
@@mlegrand I really want training readiness, hrv and other nice things of the higher end watches. And since my watch has been acting up lately (claiming I've run 45 km/h, and at times a heart rate way higher than during activity), which I could probably solve with a reset, I'm looking to upgrade earlier than I otherwise might have. It would be nice if Garmin added a 45 mm watch to the lineup though.
@@theghostofpcs2391 - My wife also likes the 965 even though it’s a big screen just because it’s so light and slim. Keep in mind you’ll get used to whatever you decide to go with.
Great video, I'm torn between the 7x Pro solar sapphire and the enduro 2. Enduro for extended battery and 7x pro for the new HR sensor. Any suggestions? It seems 7x pro is only slightly less battery life and I do enjoy stats for sleep, backpacking and hiking for HR, VO2 etc.
They are very very similar. I use my Enduro 2 a lot because I know the battery will be there when I need it but you could just as easily say the same for the Fenix. I’d look for whatever was the best price. 🤷🏻♂️
I would expect from newer Garmin some change in display technology. Maybe more pixel density/ resolution, more colors ... Something to say transflective display is still in a game.
I think it’s hard because the companies making screens are somewhat separate from Garmin. So Garmin is at the mercy of what Sony or Samsung (for example) will sell them.
great video Matt!! loving my fenix3... loving the 51 battery life... wow how is it testing 2 new watches at once? that is insane i figure 1 be nice but 2 at once wow
Thanks again for the review. Do you know if Garmin can tell us how much time is spent in a a zone per week or month? Like: X number of hours in zone 2 this month. ?
I don't think that's something I've seen. They have activity over the last 7 days but even that doesn't show amount of time in Zone 2. You will get amount of Zone 2 time after each run 🤷♂️ Hope all is well with you Esten! 👍
Question about the naming convention of the Garmin Fenix watches: Does “Pro” mean it’s a higher level of features (like the iPhone 15 vs iPhone 15 Pro) or is it really just a Fenix 7.5? In other words, will the next Fenix, presumably the Fenix 8 (non Pro) have more or fewer features than the Fenix 7 Pro? Thx.
So at the end i know you said you recommended the “auto select” on gps. Would you (to this day) still recommend using auto select or use another setting like, “use default” or “all+multi band”
I am a runner so low weight is crucial for me. I jumped to Fenix 6 Silver 47mm from my Forerunner 235 and feels heavy! I would go for the 7 pro s titanium at 58grams
Even that watch feels a bit too heavy. The 965 feels nice because it’s so slim on the wrist even though it’s got a massive screen. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Thank you very much for your answer! I will take it into consideration! I always liked the more rugged look but as it seems I can't run or live wearing a heavy watch 24/7. Congratulations not only for your content but for the art you surround it. Every video is like a short film. Just discovered you!
I think the best upgrade for every Garmin watch, especially the rugged ones as fenix/epix or instinct is to buy a nylon strap (even third party ones). It decreases the weight substantially and increases comfort the same amount! I have an instinct and I’m going for an upgrade with the fenix, probably the 42mm
Best so far. Instinct 2 not solar. Saves $700. And record all the same metrics ) And has same 5 buttons ) I got solar, but it never able to charge it. The EKG sensor and maybe more skin metrics is something interesting on the new model. But it may not be enabled in this generation. It is hard to make something better than already perfect.
That Instinct 2 is such a great option. I gave it a very favorable review here on this channel. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Huawei GT4 Pro vs Garmin Fenix 7s Pro??? Which one is better for me that I'm an athlete and explorer? I want the one that has the best sensors and technology for providing me with the most accurate information as an athlete.
I haven’t tested any Huawei watches on this channel but the Fenix is design specifically to be an accurate data collector for endurance activities. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I have no idea why some of these software updates aren't getting rolled back to the Fenix 6. That'd be a question for Garmin. It's one place I'd really like to see Garmin improve. These watches really aren't that old and people keep them for years. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Why do you think they don't include a speaker phone feature? for quick response conversations, not lte but Bluetooth from phone. Although lte would be nice for a swim or a event not having phone on person. My one wish for this new line of watches. I'm sure would hurt battery life, but a hot key to turn on or off when needed. Or a hot key for voice assistant to launch specific feature/ workout to streamline experience.
I have no idea 🤷🏻♂️ It’s super frustrating because some features similar to that are on the Venu plus and I’d love to see them on Garmin’s high end outdoor watches. I have no idea what Garmin is waiting for. 😬
@Matt LeGrand it is frustrating... I actually had the fenix 7x in my cart to buy at local best buy. Opened computer yesterday morning and happened to check some emails and RU-vid was open and notice fenix pro launch! So pumped the brakes and got excited hoping for this feature! Watching about hour worth of RU-vid I was disappointed to see this not added. Seems automatic in many other high end Watches. Im a android guy so the apple watch ⌚️ not my jam, then the all new pro edition I was so excited! Now I only assume be a year until next line comes out. And I'm not waiting that long to gamble if the phone feature not on it!!! Watch has so many things except the phone side Bluetooth or lte!
Oh man, the retro font title page is wicked cool. Did you use a third party software for it? Sooooooooooooooo neat. SO MANY OPTIONS - I couldn't keep track of any of that. Huh, saw the 2 versus 6 lights for activities... you think that's what limits watch battery life relative to the GPS? If you remember, you said you saw a big drain for pool laps, with GPS off and I never turn it on - but still see comparable battery drain. Did you find our answer?? YOUR WIFE'S CALVES ARE AMAZING!!! Please tell her that one guy she met for two seconds at the post wedding brunch sends his regards. 10:55 - really sharp macro cassette footage. Ohhh! $200 off is tough to ignore. I love when companies discount the old product when they release a newer product. Nice work!
I just moved from F6X PRO 51mm to FR965 and this was a huge mistake for me. My wrist is about 175mm and I really got used to this monster, now 965 looks like a plasticky thing that everone sells from 100$ up - yes it's a great whatch, but.... I'm ready to give up gorgeous AMOLED and go back to The True Always On F7X PRO. Don't make the same mistake as I did - wear anything smaller than your fenix before you buy.
i got fenix 7 solar , and after 1 year i dont think that this watch worth 900$.... Problem is if u are not proffesional sportsman or hiker you wont see real value of this watch. Design- great!
I think a lot of people do. The 51 is very popular. If you look at that battery chart, the 51 is the one to get. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I used to wear smaller watches (Casios, my Citizen Brycen) but when I was looking for an outdoor watch to be my daily driver I decided to go for the 51mm because I figured I wanted the largest screen for the most legible maps and longer battery. At first it felt huge, now everything else feels small.
@@mlegrand yes it seems that’s the case but I can’t help but think that there must really be an ideal fit which should supersede, a visual attraction to a (particular) larger size, especially when HR sensors are involved.
Yes: eeg function is actually approved and released in USA (to enable you need to have set your Garmin location in USA, but also for the first activation only you need to have a GPS position also in the USA). Maybe in few months will be released also for other market
Matt I honestly don't follow any more what Garmin is doing. It seems we have reached some sort of technology staleness and they are just producing watches for no good reason. I used to love my Garmin watches but now I no longer get excited about what they are producing - it is an endless list of watches with next to no difference between them or with the previous iteration. So for the first time I am wearing an apple ultra a lot more than my epix 2. It is a little sad. Separately both your videos are absolutely great!
Thank you and thanks for always being so supportive of this channel. I know the AW Ultra has put a dent in Garmin's high-end wearables. (down 15% in that category 🤷🏻♂️) I think it'll be very interesting to see what Apple does with that watch over the next two years. It could be very interesting.
I love the flashlight on the Pro series but I would look at the price comparison and see what kind of deals you can find: amzn.to/3ysg3Re amzn.to/3V4xYGh
@@mlegrand Haha, I understand that. The battery is similar on V3 compare to Fenix 7x pro in GPS-mode but the options and the standby is far superior on Fenix. And it seems like the new hardware is impressive as well. And the mip is beautiful in pictures. That for me can be worth 250€. What worries me is the "simple" recovery data and training load that I use in my daily life as ultra runner and trust at Polar. Have garmin good data there and is it trust worthy? I have 0 logged data in Garmin. So you understand my concerns perhaps 😅. And thank you for inputs. I really appreciate that.
@@RallihSarl - So far the reviews of the V3 sound a bit questionable. I’m sure Polar will fix the issues with software updates but currently I’d be hesitant. Garmin has wonderful recovery metrics and ultra running specific activity types. But if you’re happy with Polar, the V3 might be a wonderful upgrade.
Are the same device with different display. Personally I want a always-on display but I hate a light source on my wrist (very annoying while driving by nighr or similar). For my personal preference Fenix 7 pro is better

I'd go for the small Fenix, in hopes I'd like how it's lighter. I still don't really care for Fenix line. I didn't like the heavy bulky feel. Nice video of the new Fenix pro.
Thanks Jay. My wife actually said she thought the smaller 42mm Fenix Pro felt a bit too top heavy. Hopefully your 955 will feel nice and light for you. 👍
@@mlegrand Debating 955 vs 7s since Epix2 felt bit too chunky for me. I think the extra 4.5mm in 955 might not be that much bigger but gives you a lighter watch with bigger display? I also wonder 955 vs 7s Pro updated display is really the same screen tech. Haven't seen yet direct comparison but I've heard 955 had better display than 7 series.
@@luc7976 - The new Fenix 7S has a slightly improved screen but for the most part it's the same as the 955. The 965 and Epix have a very high resolution, bright AMOLED display that is noticeably different.
@@mlegrand Thanks for the info. Got Epix2 but didn't like the AMOLED much since I'm typically in bright conditions and there it's just a black screen with alwaysOn. Gesture control works but in those conditions, it seems e-ink/MIP are better likely. 965 has great upgrades and feels more next gen but even bigger than 955 and not sure if thickness will compensate for that. It seems likely that Fenix 8 next year should get same upgrades as 965 (less thickness, smaller bezels).
Yes, it does now have football (soccer here in the US) Garmin recently added some of these team sports to this device. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
A great watch for runners, cyclist, swimmers, and triathletes....still not worth buying for the powerlifter, bodybuilder, crossfit athlete, Hyrox or DekaFit hybrid athletes..or even your everyday circuit training individual who does WOD's each day. If the new Apple announce this week lives up to the hype I'll be ditching my Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar and my 20+ year marriage to Garmin and moving to Apple so that I can track my training the way I track my runs.
I’ve been testing WatchOS 10. I still don’t think it’ll be Garmin level for what I do but the smart watch features makes it a compelling option. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
That would be great. Some phones like the iPhone won't allow third party watches to do that. But a mic and speaker could help interact with the digital assistant (aka Siri). Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Smart call Paul. That's also what I recommend for people who recently got the Fenix 7. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Great review i now own the 7x pro. I was jn thailand and gps worked great. Stepped in the plane and gps never locked on mid air or upon landing.it needed wifi before it updated position..i thought gps js wifi agnostic..any ideas why this happened?
Hey man, thanks for the video. I just wanted to point out a discrepancy in your video. You described your wrist size here as 165mm and on your forerunner 965 video as 175mm. Apologies if this observation comes across as trivial, however it does make a difference when trying to visualise the sizing remotely.
Nope it's not trivial. My wrist size is 165 not 175. That was just a word fumble that I didn't catch in the edit. I'm glad you caught it. I have very tiny wrists. Thanks for pointing this out Damose!
I have a 7X and the flashlight is a game changer compared to my previous Fenix. I use it a surprisingly large amount, normally multiple times a day. At night if not waking up partner, unlocking the garage at night, looking in cupboard quickly etc. Did wish they added cellular to the 7X pro but the same time glad they didn't so I don't feel like I need to upgrade so soon! Cellular would be the next game changer for big events, being able to leave the phone at home!
I agree. It’s hard to demonstrate how helpful the flashlight is every single day. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
That would be fantastic but Garmin hasn't mentioned a magnetic charging port on these Fenix models yet. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
