Make a Techquickie: “Why is TrueMotion horrible and how to turn it off. “ Also make one on TV menu settings and recommended config. There’s so much stuff there I have no clue what it does.
most women sometime prefer small over the BIG one. they say the small one have a BIG advantage cause . . . . . . the big tv sometimes can be really bright and its not good for the eye. while the small tv is just enough

I have an LG and the only thing I don't love about it is it's blacks aren't very black (more grey). However, everything else about LG's IPS panels are great. Great color, great response times (for a tv), superb viewing angles, yada yada yada. If LG could make an IPS with superb contrast I'd buy them 100% of the time.
@@TheJohn8765 I agree aside from the OLED LG make the black levels are crap on all LG ISP displays and always has been personally Hisense and TCL(at least 6 series) are the way to go when on budget even Vizio
I have had a 49” LG tv for a couple years now. Gaming always felt off. I had NO idea that the gaming mode had so much lower latency than other modes. I always used other modes because I felt like the “Game” mode had the colors way over saturated. Didn’t realize I was sacrificing so much lag. This seriously helped me adjust my tv better to how I should have it! Thank you guys.
They got a full Durian in Canada, it must be expensive AF (For reference, Chinese people buy a ton of Durian here in Thailand because it's much cheaper than in China despite the baht being so high these days, and Durian is already an expensive fruit)
I mean I don't know if they swapped the prices accidentally or got it from LG on a week when it wasn't on sale on the Samsung was but that LG is usually about 50 bucks cheaper than that Samsung.
you need to make a tutorial on how to configure optimal settings on TVs. I have so many questions like "does turning on Gaming mode affect any color accuracy in LG TVs?"
"use your eyes" works for disabling all of the "fuckery" like motion smoothing and fine tuning sharpness. for things like black levels/contrast/brightness if it's something you KNOW should look a certain way, you can kinda eyeball it. if you really want to "calibrate" it you use printed test cards or a meter. i've got an ancient usb one that will work for calibrating a monitor, you could probably run it (with a PC) in a way that lets you dial in settings changes instead of just spitting an .icm profile.
I think most of the stuff he does is pretty common sense for TV people. Just look up some common guides and I'm pretty sure you can just follow those, Linus does much the same thing. I don't think he does any pro calibration stuff, probably because it's too niche.
Probably went a little something like this, "Hey Yvonne, what food does Linus hate?" "Linus hates Durian" "okay we're going to make him eat a durian for the next video"
@@Xfade81 These comments about you make no sense your comment made plenty sense For context sake hes saying the person who made the original comment about it taking 9 mins for him to talk about a single tv is incorrect because he watched the video and the longest length he takes talking about a TV is about 5 mins Also none of this matters tacos!
As a salesman who's customers are almost exclusively in this price range, I love this video and content. I'd love to see more of it, especially with budget laptop's. I'd love to see how these compare as computer monitors. I'm also curious how Hisense compares as that is one I offer inlue of scepter.
I sold TVs for years and honestly I reccomend Hisense over all of the above especially at this price range. And then at the high end, I really still reccomend Hisense, but it gets harder when it isn't apples to apples cause the tech is different in Samsung and lg. For people looking for the best of the best kinda gotta lean Samsung or LG, but if they are sub 1.2k in price, most models around that compared to Hisense equivalent or otherwise I'm gonna say Hisense.
@Khaffit As someone who's new to selling TV's (about a year), but a 15 year veteran of PC and laptop sales, I'm intrigued by your statement. What is your evidence for this statement?
Surprisingly, I rarely see Hisense offered at a lot of places or offered but never mentioned or advertised, even online. I've had very good experiences with Hisense and several other seemingly uncommon brands like Hanns-G.
Oh yeah, I can certainly imagine. I’m a film editor AND tech guy, and a good example is how right now I’m watching the Mary Tyler Moore show with my father, which for anyone who doesn’t know is one of the most loved sitcoms of all time, but was made in the early seventies. As in season one was 1970. And when we get to each new episode, I’m often hearing or seeing massive drops in audio or video quality, which my father doesn’t see or hear. Which is a bit odd, since he’s a big tech guy too. But still.
Im annoyed by people with no standards, or incredibly low standards... Products get worse while getting more expensive as a result of none concerning customers such as youself... Companys get away with proverbial murder... TVs are a great example of this.. 2020 saw a shifting of just about the whole lineup from all manufacturers. rather than improve models, each tv is now comparable to the model that would have been below it on the stack the previous year, rather than above it.. Quality is regressing...
@@William-Morey-Baker First of all, thx for the insult. Secondly, I don't see a need of a high end TV in my life. I get things that I need not want, I spend basically most of my time at home in front of a computer or my ipad rather than a TV so I don't see why i have to get a TV that will set me back thousands of dollars that I will hardly use.
@@William-Morey-Baker Your problem is not with people. It's with capitalism. It only makes sense that not everybody can be an expert on everything. In the same way that you have high standards on TVs there are inevitably going to be people with higher standards than yours on other products where you have mediocre standards without even thinking about them. It should be the companies' responsibility to price things fairly and not trick people. Since that is counter-productive when it comes to profit margins and since big capital seems to have severe allergic reactions to regulating anything other than pure necessities you get the declining state of the current market. Make systemic critiques instead of blaming individuals. That's how progress is made.
Some googleing will also provide free professional grade settings for most newer TV's. My LG OLED 65" was "professionally calibrated" from the store, it was a complete ripoff and looked horrible. Event the truemotion stuff was on, which I expect a "professional" calibrator would turn off. Changed the settings I found myself and it turned out perfect. Got my money back for the "calibration" thankfully, it was like $100. LG really makes some good TV's these days.
hes been doing this for 10 plus years, he knows his shit and he knows how manufacturers are. im very impressed by it too though. i tried guessing myself and missed 3 lmao
I know I'm 2 years late, but it's because Linus isn't just a camera personality. He's an actual bonafide enthusiast. The guy's living practically my dream job!
I actually dug around in my LG TV's picture mode settings after watching this and enabled game mode and the difference is startling - why the hell is the default mode 4-5x the input lag of what the TV can actually do??
@@beezusHrist lol if anything, it's less cpu intensive. The increased input lag in normal (non-game) mode is because of different kinds of algorithms being executed that improve the image quality. Things like frame interpolation, which generates "extra" frames to make movement seem smoother. There's things like anti aliasing and too.
@@beezusHrist What is “Game Mode”? Game mode is an option that display manufacturers put into their HDTVs to disable certain image processing protocols when its enabled. It usually makes your picture look worse. Why would anyone want to do that? Because your pretty picture is the reason your controller and inputs feel sluggish. By enabling “Game Mode”, you are disabling certain features of the TV to reduce picture quality, and in return you get more responsive inputs on your controller. The less your TV has to work, the more responsive your controller is. Shut up you dumbass lmao.
@UCLJ-manlj_HVGGV8aVYgeyg I know what it does, it turns off all aforementioned algorithms thus decreasing input lag since those algorithms take more clock cycles to complete.
@UCLJ-manlj_HVGGV8aVYgeyg >your lg OLED TV Again, who's being ignorant here? Anyways... kr.eguide.lgappstv.com/manual/w19/atsc/Contents/settings/picture/gamemode_u_b/enga/w45__settings__picture__gamemode_u_b__enga.html - there's not a word about it being "more resource intensive".
I still have a 2005 or 06 TV, and two newer ones (I moved recently-ish) with basically the same image quality. No need to upgrade for watching TV shows and youtube videos, anything serious is on my monitors anway
15:53 I'm so glad I'm not the only weird video nerd who turns smooth motion settings off on other people's TVs when they leave the room/aren't looking.
Jaime Beauchamp it makes the movements and fast scenes look smoother basically. You notice it more on action tv shows or movies. Me personally I like it but not everyone does.
I feel validated in my decision to buy a TCL TV. I'm actually really impressed at how far TV's have come. Even a cheap modern TV is miles better than even the more expensive (who am I kidding? If my family got an "expensive" TV, it was a hand me down.) ones I had growing up.
@@qazwsxzwharp Resolution notwithstanding, my 2013 Panasonic 42GT is still some of the best image quality I've seen on any TV to date. Only cons are burn in and power draw, but I game a lot and haven't had any burn in, and I just don't heat my flat so use the TV as my radiator haha
You made the right choice. Plasmas are quite dim and the settings require tinkering with. With the TCL, you can just put it in Movie mode and be done with it.
Here is a fun tip I learned last year. TVs often have their best sales price in early January apparently to clear out inventory for the previous model year. Now knowing that I have been looking around and I have found a 55" Samsung NU6900 for $299 USD at Microcenter even though I already bought the same TV for $50 more in December. Anyway I thought I would pass that tip along.
@@ZealofSparta To be perfectly honest, I'm not that salty about it cuz I actually ended up with a pretty good TV anyway. It helps that I had a lot of knowledge about what features I was looking for. It's an LG 49UM6950DUB. The TV has a lot of awesome features. Surprisingly, it even supports 240p through component. I was not expecting that on a 4K TV. I'm probably not going to use that, as I always play my PS1 games on the PS3, but it's a nice thing to have as I have heard *some* PS2 games are 240p.
8:35 I use a 4K 43" TCL TV as my primary monitor at work and had to have my output locked at 30hz to avoid weird artifacts until I learned THIS ONE WEIRD TRICK. A sincere thank you, Linus and a sarcastic "Thanks" to TCL.
TCL is actually Rock solid in my opinion. I've sold a lot of TVs when I was getting my degrees and TCL was a slow starter because they came out of nowhere and they were so cheap but once they started to get going people started buying them by the pallet. Also IMO the two legged bases are where it's at. You can put a sound bar in front of them without having it resting on a big round base.
I'm dealing with my first TCL I just saw his fire TV for 900 that he says was a Black Friday deal I have the exact same 4K HDR TCL TV and I got it for 5:25 because I screwed around and waited too long on break Friday or I would have gotten it for 500 but it is my first venture into the TCL world and so far 6 months later I'm extremely happy
I use this LG model as a monitor for my PC and TV for my console and Linus explaining to me how to turn on Instant Game Response made my typing and mouse basically improved my entire life. Side note: Turning the Instant Game Response on instantly switched my display scale to 150%. I would recommend putting it back down to 100% because I think it messes with some programs or makes things look weird. (Also, you can fit way less on your taskbar when you up the scale.)
But the image quality on Panasonic TVs is fantastic. I have at my home a 42" Panasonic TV and an HDR 49" LG, and the Panasonic is like the image is fantastic without any setting: smooth Interpolation, good image processing, no lags (like Samsung's tvs). Yeah. After so many years it isn't almost a Smart TV, but hey, the Amazon Fire Stick is only 30 bucks.
@@TrioLOLGamers After 12 years it does still look fantastic. only problem is that it is a room heater that also happens to display video images. A Laptop and a Logitech K400+ wireless keyboard make a smart enough tv for me.
It saddens me that plasma was abandoned. I know that they were energy hogs but even with 4K and HDR, I miss the motion on plasma. Judder is terrible on LCD displays and even OLED (which is my goal to own by the end of the year) struggles with it. All the solutions to this that manufacturers come up with only mask the problem with mild to moderate soap opera effect.
must be said in crocodile dundee's voice "call those bezels? these are bezels!" my samsung 46" LCD tv is from 2009 or 2010(maybe even 2008, don't remember exactly) but it has about 3 1/2 wide bezels. Samsung calls it TOC - touch of color, glossy black with hint of red/maroon that near the edge fades to fully transparent, actually looks (IMO) tastefully done.
thank god someone else made this comment and it got upvoted because that is exactly when i paused and was going to be like wow "I talked to his wife" Ooof Et tu, Brute?
PSA: you can turn on game mode on Samsung TVs without setting the input to 'PC'. It's under external device manager in the main settings menu. It actually gives you a handful of picture options compared to setting the input to PC.
Is not even necesary, the low imput mode activates itself as soon u start a game. Linus didnt play any game on this test, just played a movie so he couldnt see it.
@@darkwowpg Depends on your exact model. I know for sure the MU series will change to low latency, but I'm not too sure about the NU. The MU will also set the default to 50hz in Game Console and 30hz for PC, it can be changed but it is annoying on first setup or after a power outage.
@Honk Honkler I had to enable it manually on mine, wierd You can also enable it quickly though the bottom ribbon, it has a quick setting tile next to the image and sound settings
@@Dr.WhetFarts Yep, same when you select "PC" as a source type. Half the color controls get disabled, 10-point calibration turns to 2-point calibration etc. That's why I only turn it on when I want to do something fast/productive on the PC or to actually play some video game (with all the CGI, who even cares about "correct" colors anyway, that's only a concern for actual movies and TV series). But to be fair, it's hard to imagine how they could possibly get insane responses like 11.8 ms without turning off a whole bunch of processing (mine's older, it only does like 24 or so).
I've been very happy with my TCL 4 series. The roku software is very pleasant to use. It's not the brightest but for its price it's great. Movie picture settings will always be closest to accurate without calibration.
Nah, linus didnt even try to play a game on the Tvs. Samsung low imput mode activates itself as soon u start ur game, linus didnt play any so he couldnt noticed. The Samsung TV has lower imput latency than any of those tvs.
@@Catsrules1 HDMI control signals sending additional info like how it sends HDR info as extra data, can include things like a device requesting specific modes such as low-latency or specific refresh rates (that gets ignored when you buy TV's as cheap as I do), such as display's switching to 24fps when watching 24fps content
I have that exact model LG tv, was an awesome budget buy, and definitely learned a few things watching you adjust settings for it in this video, so thanks, man!

Ive had this LG tv and a Xbox X for two years and ive been running it at 60hz 200ms input lag wow I just thought it was just part of gaming on a tv didn't even know it did 120hz 10ms. Thanks bro.
Linus complained that Why console didnt have low imput on the Samsung TV.... and it does, the low imput mode activates when u start playing a game on console and the imput lag is lower than the LG one, he didnt play any game and just test it on it. The samsungTV is the best one for gaming.
I’m happy with my TCL Roku TV. I was shopping on Black Friday and found a great deal for it. It was a spur of the moment decision that day. All I knew is I wanted a Roku Smart TV with 4K and HDR, and it fit the bill. I’m very pleased with it myself. It’s not top notch obviously, but it does what I would like it to do and it does it well enough.
I have a 32 inch TCL Roku TV. It's 1080p and I think it was close to $100. I bought it a couple years ago for my 5 year old granddaughter's PS4. She's 7 now and already noticing how some TVs are better than others and how input lag affects her game. I have a feeling I'll be building her a PC this year.
I own the 43" version of the TCL and I had no trouble mounting it on a standard mount I got at Best Buy. It actually replaced a different TV and I just used the same screws with no issues.
Do I need a new TV? Do I even watch anything on a TV? Do I have $400? Do I like durians? No DO I NEED TO KNOW IF LINUS IS GONNA GET TO EAT CEREAL???? Yes
I have the Samsung in a 55” and I can say they got a few things wrong. Not sure if there was an update since this was filmed though. There is a game mode, it’s in the external device manager. There’s an option to apply picture settings to all sources right in the expert section. The screen mirroring is probably referring to the AirPlay 2 compatibility, which I love. I actually owned the TCL in a 65”, it was broke at a New Years party I held, I replaced it with the RU7100 and I have to say I much prefer the Samsung over the TCL. I know it gets quite a bit brighter than the TCL and I like the Tizen OS a lot more than Roku. I’d like to see a bit more research put into your videos like these. I know a quick comparison on Rtings will tell you that the Samsung gets brighter. Still love you guys tho, I watch every video, and of course, correct me if I’m wrong.
I bought that LG tv, well the model right before it for only $160. Got super lucky and it was their last one in stock and it was on clearance since they were putting out the new models out.
@@justinedzard time mostly. I watch the video and read the comments at the same time. One of the first comments I saw says that he guesses them all correctly, it's a spoiler.
I’ve been using that LG TV for a while, I personally think it’s pretty smooth and in game mode I can really tell a difference in comparison to my even older non HDR TV. I’m glad Linus thinks it’s pretty decent-ish as I was wondering if I should even spend the money on a more expensive OLED TV. I’m not really qualified on knowledge of specs and such so maybe I’ll wait a year or so and get someone to run through what LG OLED is the best to grab for a budget of £900-£1300 odd.
Hell, I have the TCL 50" 50S425 now, but not for long. It's okay, but nothing I'd personally recommend to anyone as I am in the process of upgrading. It's replacement will be here Wednesday. Over the last few days I've been researching and even almost went for one of the ones that I am seeing in your descriptions. By your recommendations even being listed here, I figure that either of the ones outside of the one that I have now would have been a descent choice for me, personally. I've have decided on a 55" TCL 6 series. Even decided to choose the older (2018) 6R17 model over the newer ones like the 6R25 after extensive research, as some of the features like "lag input" and "brightness " matters a bit more to me, and some of the newer models (including the 6R25) seemed to have regressed in some of those regards. Nice vids though. You have tons of wisdom when it comes to these things and a lot of your advice helped me out a great deal in building up my PC.
That LG is attached to my computer in my bedroom.. I love it. I use it for all my online content viewing, and pared with my ROG Strix 980 OC 8GB GPU it makes great use of the recent unlocked advanced HDR compatability.. :) The only downside was when I bought my house and planned the layout of my bedroom I had to buy a 5 foot wide steel office desk to keep both my screen, and system on top of the desk..
FYI: you can get game mode on the Samsung without pc selected For Samsung game mode you have to go to General - - - - > external device manager and select game mode. (if it is greyed out you have a noncompatible setting selected in picture settings such as hdr plus)
I was eyeing that specific TCL 4-series tv but it's generally sold out everywhere in my area. Kinda splurged and basically spend $130 more for a 2020 year model 5-series, mainly for decent local dimming and QLED
