It's cool that this guy's dad knows how to make drinks and he does it very well. The cooler thing is seeing a father and son engage in something they both enjoy together.
I'm a professional bartender with a level 2 sommelier degree. This guy doesn't know how to make drinks very well. Always stirred never shaken for martinis. Plus, the vermouth is made to dust the glass, it's not mixed with the vodka and olive juice. Lastly, martinis can be made with gin or vodka. A real professional would use gin. Because the mark of a good vodka is flavorless and odorless, this makes it a poor spirit to use in martinis.
From the age of about 13 I became obsessed with a martini I couldn't wait to have one and then when I turn 21 it was the first mixed drink I ever ordered I've never been so disappointed I absolutely hated it
Yeah, James Bond will do that to you. Always thought the "shaken martini" would be special. Not really. Although I do love Gin, only alcohol I'll drink on its own. Not shaken, not stirred, just poured on ice. Maybe a squeeze of lime and throw in a few olives, I do love olives, green or black. So good.
At 13 I had the same desire so later that evening I made a martini instead of waiting 8 years because even at 13 I was a fucking man unlike you fucking panda
I honestly can't give enough props to the builder and designer of the house, every different area these videos are in is stunning. The blueprints in one of the previous videos has me assuming pops is a builder, if so this is top notch work!
Yes, I went into this video expecting that he would be the person to be aware of that. It’s possible though that he just used vodka in order to avoid criticism from the majority, instead of criticism from us (few) educated drinkers. (P. S. If you think all educated drinkers are alcoholics you’re either a child, an alcoholic yourself or simply lack responsibility. ) ;)
Honestly love the relationship between you and your farther and how close and comfortable you are together really makes me appreciate what an amazing farther I have as well . Nothing but love man nothing but love.
@@JohnnyDrinks Fr btw love your short vids especially when you make drinks and smoke the glass I've never seen that before and once I did I was hooked screw the haters keep doing your thang sir , you got yourself a new sub cheers ✌🏼🍻
@@ofrank3118 ehh, all preference, it can range anywhere from 1 part vermouth to 4 parts gin/vodka (wet martini) or as little as 1 part vermouth to 16 parts gin/vodka (extra dry), and still be in the acceptable range.
Everyone can dig on the fact the guy clearly has money. But props to a man who’s made it like that and still has/makes time for such a good relationship with his son.
@@asdfghjkl3669 it's sad, but it's way too true... I recently started following BlackRamboTV. he's super hyped, extra happy, and way too extra. but then I saw him when he thought the cameras weren't rolling and he's a dead af kind of dude. he does not even have a smile to show off his pretty good teeth.
Okay but a martini should never be shaken as it bruises the vermouth and makes it cloudy. Also martinis are traditionally with gin not vodka and there is way too much vermouth in that. As far as chilling the glass I wouldn’t add the water bc small amounts will end up in your martini and change the taste
If it's vodka you want it to be shaken to delute it a little bit more, because vodka taste is not great. If it's gin you stir it to cool it enough without loosing taste of gin
The original way. With gin. Specifically with Gin Mare. It's a Spanish Mediterranean gin with basil, olive, rosemary, and thyme. Doesn't need olive juice. It's perfect the way it is with the dry vermouth.
Biggest pet peeve when it comes to drinks. A martini is meant to be stirred not shaken unless requested. The misconception started with the James Bond quote but people misunderstand it. He asked for it to be shaken not stirred because they are meant to be prepared stirred. It’s a modifier just like if someone wants something on the rocks as opposed to neat.
I'm surprised there are not more people commenting about shaking the martini, they are classically stirred, and only started to get shaken due to James bond. You usually only want to shake a drink when you want to aerate and/or more heavily dilute a cocktail (sours, drinks with citrus or other fruits, egg white cocktails, etc). It's been pretty well documented that stirring makes a better martini than shaking, HOWEVER, the right way to make a drink is whatever way you like it, so go for it :)
Love your vids sir also love when you smoke the glass I had never seen that and when I did I was hooked keep up the hard work and screw what the haters say I love it cheers 🍻
What how do people not know with how great Johns videos are :) totally love this dad and son combo. Want to raise my boy a bit the same way - but his moms a softy and don’t like the booze and definitely don’t like hard working men lol 😂 it is what it is got my new wife been married 10 years can’t wait for my first drink with my son :) gotta be fancy smoked glass with some special makers mark bourbon 🥃
So he actually makes the ‘regular’ martini wrong. The most common martini types are dry ones which actually have the vermouth strained out so it only covers the ice. His ‘regular’ version is a wet Martin which isn’t the most common.
@@tomasevskiygnativ4424 it’s actually the opposite. A dry martini means to put less vermouth so that the drink is gin (or vodka) forward. Extra-dry martinis typically have no vermouth at all.
@@Its_andrewdude the 1905 recipe for a Dry Martini is 50/50 (1 1/2 oz each) Gin and Dry vermouth, as during the 19th century many recipes called for Italian or red/"sweet" vermouth
@@tomasevskiygnativ4424 Yes, you’re correct, but the term “dry” in Dry Martini does not derive from the use of a dry vermouth. Which is a common misconception and why a lot of people now order extra-dry martinis expecting more vermouth. Dry in cocktails refers to being less sweet which is how original martinis were made. While a white vermouth is less sweet than a red vermouth it still has a lot more sweetness than the gin. In summary, the use of a dry vermouth does make a martini “dry” relative to how it was originally made. However, the term more appropriately refers to making a cocktail less sweet which is why an extra-dry martini calls for a drop and more likely no vermouth at all.
In my opinion, it doesn’t matter how much experience you have, you will never measure out the same drink twice if you don’t use a pour spout. ALSOO martinis are supposed to be stirred. They are supposed to be clear not foggy.
My whole family are alcoholics and for some reason I hate alcohol, the taste especially, and puke it up as I try to swallow it but I love dirty martini's, best tasting alcohol drink for sure.
A regular martini tastes better than the dirty unless you love the taste of green olives its pretty powerful so I'd recommend to give it to a friend that likes it if you don't like it
first the original martini is only gin and white vermouth... dry martini. The dirty martini contains vodka. So I guess the olive which is a garnish can be placed on both, but normally you could just use a meon pheel to finish the original dry martini.
Personally, I was disappointed when he made the martini with vodka rather than gin, but I was even more disappointed when he shook the jig instead of stirring it. The cinematic James Bond got it wrong. A proper martini is stirred, not shaked. We just want the ice to cool the liquor, we don't want too much ice to melt.
Every time I watch this guy I shake my head. 1) it’s olive Brine, not juice. 2) when you add vermouth it’s called a wet martini 3) a martini is definitely not shaken, unless you just watched a bond movie.
You should show a side by side comparison. Dirty martini should be a little cloudy, regular martini should be crystal clear. And unless requested you should always stir it instead of shaking. 007 really screwed that up. Lol
Of course, as a bartender, you will know that a true martini does not have vodka. A true martini is made with Jim. The vodka martini was invented for the james bond movie because of advertising
