You can really only tell what hair type you have when its very well kept and is around cheek length. What I mean by well kept is low frizz, highly hydrated, defined, and well bonded (+protein). An example of this is: straight/wavy hair to healthy curly hair transformations or frizzy 4c hair (some people think they have 4c hair because 4c hair is typically depicted as undefined and frizzy, however, well kept 4c hair typically will not be very frizzy *unless it's a styling choice* although frizz is completely natural for type 3 and 4 hair) to 4a/3c/4c hair mix. (I think almost everyone has a hair type complex of 3 or 4 hair types)
This is honestly so discouraging to discover. I was told to repair my hair, I need to know the type to know what products to use and how to manage it. I've been guessing around for years. But if you're saying it has to be healthy to even know, and I've been advised I need to know to get it healthy... damn, I'm just ready to shave it all off.
@@Datura981 *I got you* (It's not that long, I promise) You don't exactly need to know the type to take care of it other than when it comes to styling (because you probably know that for example, people with curlier hair need stronger hold for definition). If you know your hair is naturally curly but it's too damaged to tell the type, you should go for curly to coily products. If you know your hair a naturally on the straight or wavy side, go for straight for wavy products. If a LARGE portion of your hair is damaged, I'd recommend either gradually trimming your hair to the healthy parts every wash day or chopping off all the damaged parts with shears (make sure they're scissors for hair because if not, they could damage your hair). If you mechanically, chemically, heat, color, etc damage your hair, you should use protein treatments and bond builders. The only true bond builders I've seen on the market that actually have bond building ingredients (not just cuticle sealers like Redken) are Olaplex, K18, Bondbar, and Epres. The best protein treatment I've seen on the market is ApHogee's Two-Step Protein Treatment. On the wash day that you use a protein treatment do not use a bond builder. Deep condition your hair every week. You probably have high porosity hair (water comes in and leaves quickly), so you won't need to steam or warm your hair to temporarily raise the cuticle (it's already raised as it's high porosity). You'll only need to deep condition for 10 - 30 minutes. I wouldn't recommend more than thirty as people with high porosity hair can easily get hygral fatigue (when water gets into the cuticle) which is really hard to get rid of unless you trim your hair. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS end your hair routine with an occlusive cuticle sealer, especially as someone with high porosity hair. High porosity hair means your cuticle is raised so you need to seal it. This will help you end your routine with shinier, healthier, and protected hair. One oil to look out for is olive oil. It's very occlusive (traps in water that you easily lose) and seals the cuticle. If you decide to make DIY oil, I'd mix it with something more lightweight. (If you use a clarifying shampoo, hair oils with silicones such as dimethicone are great!) -If you can get information on your products, alwaysuse low pH products to get the cuticle as low as possible (the more alkaline, the more raised the cuticle. You should avoid using any high pH shampoos or soaps). Don't forget to detangle each wash day!
My hair is the whole wavy section 😭 I so wish it was all curls or all straight... ig ppl were right when they said we always want what we can't have...😂
Same here. I can’t seem to figure out how to keep my curls defined after I dry my hair. I’ll put in conditioner and it looks amazing for half an hour but after that it disappears
I’ve got 2C-3A My hair will hold whatever curl you want it to, FOR DAYS Not affected very much by humidity or dryness, almost no dandruff or oil The ONLY thing is I can’t use conditioner and it doesn’t hold straight very long
@@lemonfizz2897 ahhh okay that makes sense, I've had that issue before. I learned to mix my leaves in conditioner with some water and spray it on, works without greasing me too much ♥️
The top layer of my hair is 2c, the middle layer is 2a and my bottom/longest part of my hair is like 1-2a hair basically some are straight and don’t curl or get wavy.
@@Dexzler yes i can genes and have u ever seen a 1a break a hard plastic comb and get small pieces of plastic from it stuck in hair before? Yea I didn’t think so i do have 4 c and u cant say i dont because u have never seen my hair before
@@tsionwondim9566 It's just a darker 1a. Nothing special. I also have 4c if it exists. Also if i have not seen ur hair then the only thing you can do to prove it is SHOW it.
Person with curls here! And I’m looking for some help. Does anyone have a curl routine/tips for someone with 3c-4a curls? I refused to go near a comb when I was younger, and my parents didnt know how to take care of my hair. My hair is really dry and frizzy, no matter what. Any help?
See mine is like straight when i brush it but if i like put product or wet it i can tell i have curls. I've had curls when i had longer thicker hair but now that I've cut it short, it's thin as well as I barely have any curls and idk how to style it or even what my hair type is 😭
My hair is 4b when I don't touch it or pick it out of course, but when it gets wet it's 4a and my brother is 4b and 3c when wet. We normally use some product cream, so it's always 3c and 4a for us
Shut the fuck up😭😭😭😭 im jealous cause when u have curly hair/ coils BRUH 💀 whenever you even put a droplet of water it turns into a cloud 💀 and if you have knots nice try 💀 try brushing them out- IT MAKES YOUR HAIR PUFFY
I have no idea each day my hair is a new type Monday straight as heck Tuesday curly Wednesday straight again then CURLY then the next day wavy and adorable for 5 seconds till it’s a warzone😊
Curly 3B/3C... Any hair advice for men? I got jew hair, long dark curly ringlets.. I've been growing it out, going on a year, maybe two.. I never knew I had "this" type of hair (also never knew I had a jew nose lol) except as a kid my hair was "oily." For the last two weeks, I've been NOT shampooing/conditioning. I figured once or twice a week, I'd do shampoo/conditioner and let the natural oils do the rest.. I'm still trying to figure out my regiment... I'm Spanish + Native American + "European," and I live in Alaska (cold weather) if that matters.
Im miserable lol 1B gang. Also tips!! Use a clay, clay can thicken add some shape and texture but not as much as powder, powder snd be a life saver for straight flat dead hair.pomade is good for hold but not alot of it.and use a no sulfate shampoo though use sulfate one every 2-3 weeks and use no sulfate every other time some people say no sulfate at all but do you need some.sea salt can help with beachy waves but can dehydrate your hair my hair not texured is 1A-1b after wash with sulfate 1A but 1b more so natrual especially in front bit textured 1c-2A front and 1b-1c back so yeah i have difficulty achieving texture but anyone cane but some cant get as much also contditoners are nice.but if all else fails i would recommend a perm but it could damage hair always go to a professional! Finding a barber is trial and error perms cant really damage hair unless your hair is already damaged theres only a temporary effect ive had a perm so i know lol it didnt change my hair it did a bit but only lasted like 1-2 months so yeah lol i have pretty straight hair and im a male luckily products are there lol anyway hope this helped! Also texture paste /cream helps for texture and, goodluck everyone!
My hair is curly like 4c when it's wet/unbrushed, but when i brush it it just becomes wavy, frizzy and poofy, when i was little i had like really curly blonde hair, it's just that i don't know how to define my curls and I don't know what products to use.
