In addition to prices going up, we also have to assess whether the ingredient list has changed. I noticed some foods adding in filler-like ingredients to their products, basically worsening the quality of their food. I've noticed this in dairy products such as milk, butter, or yogurt. One of the butters I buy at Costco now contains natural flavors in the ingredient list... Frankly, there shouldn't be any additives in simple foods like butter to begin with. We also have to watch out if the package size has decreased.

I still shop here but notice that I've stopped getting all the snack items. The brocoli bag is also smaller today, so definitely went up in price, and part of the whole shrinking trend in packaging.

I noticed it is better to get the organic veggies from Costco. The bag is bigger. And i always look for sales and plan out what to make. I also get whole chicken from the farmers market and debone it. I use the bones to make chicken stock. It is also cheaper to make your own dumplings, but i know it is hard if mom has to work, plus taking care of the kids, cooking and cleaning is alot.

This recession is most likely the result of an external factor. For the first time in decades, the United States is losing its clout as a federal reserve currency. They don't have any more economies to use to control inflation, and less money is being spent on stock and oil trading than in the past. They all lend support to the idea that a new multilateral world order is in the works.

Keep this in the back of your mind. There are good days and bad days. It's a zero-sum game, but keep this advice in mind: spend wisely, invest wisely, and diversify your holdings so that when one performs poorly, the others do as well. Cuteness overload! So, this is my assessment for grocery shopping. 1- You really have to be savvy. Some of the items I have noticed will have the same price but the packing amount has changed! 2-Which stores have what items you use the most for less. Some prices have not changed for certain items but can only get them at particular stores. 3-Buying in season is helpful and farmers. Usually cheaper. 4-What neighborhood are you buying in. I bought a prime rib roast in a rural area at a well known grocery store that was $30 cheaper then the usual price!! I could not figure it out. Same chain same items as 15 miles away but 30 bucks cheaper.

Here's the thing. My normal every-week bill last summer jumped up by almost $50 dollars. I knew this economy was in serious trouble when TJ's had no choice but after 20 years, they had to raise some items from $1.99. Not TJ's fault at all, it's our economy and quite frankly the cost of doing business in CA. TJ's is a CA-based business. CA regulates businesses to the point of extinction. We have really bad politics here. TJ's is still the best deal in many many ways. At my local stores, many crew members still work there after 15 years. It's a good business that we need to support.

I know from my Grandpartens (living during WW2 and after that) that you will get in those times problems with meat, diary and fresh vegs. So the best way to save money is eating vegetarian or even vegan and having your own garden, planting your own vegs. The problem is that not everyone can afford a place anymore where you can put at least some tomateplants and potatoplants in your garden or balcony.

This was quite encouraging… I was just at Trader Joe’s the other day and feeling like the prices hadn’t gone up that much, and you’ve confirmed that! Definitely hasn’t gone up the way so many other things have with other retailers- my favorite cereal doubled in price, and so many things are multiple dollars more than before, not just 50 cents. Added with smaller packaging sizes that no longer align with the amounts needed in recipes… it’s just frustrating to shop. Plus so many things not in stock! I’m glad Trader Joe’s has good quality at decent prices. I wish the closest one wasn’t an hour away!

On the good side of this, I don't feel extra anymore for getting my soy milk and yoghurt since cow milk and yoghurt prices are almost the same now 😂😂 I'm in Germany and mostly buy at Aldi and Lidl. The same pack of sliced cheese that was 1,99 at the end of 2021 went up to 2,29 last spring, to 2,99 in the summer and then to 3,49 during fall. We spend about 25% more on groceries each month than we did in 2020 with the same amount of income.
