with old blender engine it would probably take 10 hours for this 3 min

You can actually see the "ropes" speed and up and slow down as the pendulums swing and "change shape". It would be a trick if we all see something different as they mesmerize us. But we don't. We see exactly what the CGI artist wants us to see. What he makes them do.
