All in with crypto at the moment until early next year, then my stocks and shares journey will begin. Let's just hope the government doesn't cap ISAs at 100k in October as the Capital Gains tax increase is going to kill me with crypto.

Good, I must admit. Recently I bought LVMH, Randstad and ASML - just before the decision of the Bank of China over the new stimulus package for the Chinese economy. I got my 400 € from Shell this month - I guess this is my best purchase of 2020 when I bought around 2000 shares of then Royal Dutch Shell for 13,07 €/share. Still have 1305 - pure for dividends (it's around 400 € per quarter righ now so for me its div yield on cost is around 9,35% net). The rest of my shares go pretty well too, eg. NN Group where I have my net div yield on cost at around 9,5% - I bought it for 30,07 € after some "problems" which appeared later not so big as it'd been thought before. :)

Congratulations on getting to £500k, that’s a fantastic milestone. This month was my highest for dividends so far at £4721 and next will be the biggest for me at £5415, other months are quite a bit smaller. Recently passed the £100 a day milestone average dividend payout. I doubled down on BP this month as I think it’s oversold long term, although I think it might stay depressed for some time but it’s a long term buy and hold for me like most stocks and ETFs I own. I’m going to open up a small position on MONY soon as I think it’s been oversold and the energy switching market will start to be viable again soon. My biggest holdings are in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 but despite them doing well the £ significantly strengthening against the $ has meant actual performance has been subdued as a result. No sign of the £ weakening any time soon either. You will soon be at £1m at this rate. Good luck on the journey

This month has been nice for me. Shipping portfolio has done the best for Div payments; approx £16. UK shares paid just over £14. ETFs paid £8.50 and Military/Aero Portfolio paid just over £3. Its not a lot. But I hope it grows eventually! I’m dumping a lot of US stocks due to the FX fee. I’m £137 up on Div payments for the year. I probably need to reduce my holdings to be fair! 🤣

@VmcgHD

@@ianhallett6174 I have Torm. They’ve been really good. Not looked at the others but I will. I don’t get the FX Fee. I mean I know what it is. I had the daily dividend pie in T212 but I was just getting pennies from each stock. It seemed pointless. I haven’t got thousands to invest into that portfolio as my spread is probably a bit too big (5 portfolios currently). And it just seems a waste to be putting in hundreds of £s into US stocks when you get pennies in return. I guess you could argue they’re dividend aristocrats and safe but I’d rather get more money from less investment. If that makes sense. I do hold a few US stocks in my AI portfolio and Military/Aero portfolio so I haven’t avoided it completely. Maybe I haven’t understood it enough as I see a few YT people heavily invest in US stocks despite being British.

I now look forward to every month payments, so thank you for the insight of what’s possible with a little thought and effort. I started with the goal of achieving at least one dividend each month, but now more focussed on IUSA

I received about €800. My largest holdings are the FTSE North America and the FTSE Developed Europe, followed by the Nasdaq 100. Unfortunately, I decided to go for the accumulating variant back then, and these three make up about a third of my portfolio. However, reallocating isn't an option either because I'd have to pay too much in taxes. Collecting dividends tax free would be a dream but our far left Gouvernement here in Germany hates it's people and stock owners in particular.
@BLTchemistry

I love the simple format of your videos. I seem to be inspired to buy some new dividend stock every month. When the US AI bubble deflates, the air will flow into the FTSE. But right now, UK stocks are amazing value. My 212 ISA hoovers more up every payday. The yanks don't know what they're missing with their P/Es of 80 and the buffet index above 2. When the S&P folds, warren is poised to bail out every company still worth owning.

Welcome aboard Alan and thanks for subscribing. Personally I invest for growth as well as dividends. I like to have a bit of both. Having a diversified portfolio is important and ETFs are a great way to achieve this, some of which focus on income, growth or both. There is so much choice out there. For books on dividend investing I can only recall one which I read several years ago. It was called the Dividend Investor by Rodney Hobson.

I think you will probably do well investing in just the S&P500. ETFs were not mainstream when I started and my platform did not allow me to buy overseas individual stocks. I therefore grew accustomed to buying large cap uk stocks. There is no real science to it, I just invested in companies which were virtual monopolies in their field and were therefore unlikely to go bust e.g. oil, gas, electricity water, pharmaceuticals and the big consumer good giants. Total value of the portfolio is 500k but the figures in the description are just the companies which pay out in September. Possibilities are raising capital gains to be in line with income tax, reduce the capital gain or dividend allowance even further and of course put a cap on the amount people can hold in an ISA. They could also reduce the yearly ISA allowance which is currently 20k. Whatever happens I don’t think I’ll stop investing but it might change how I invest e.g. more new money going into an S&P500 ETF or All World ETF instead of dividend investing. At the end of the day these things are beyond our control but I still think investing would be better than not investing whatever they do.

Hey Compounding Investor, why don’t you go for the big dividend FTSE100 stocks like PHNX or MNG? Do you think they’re dividend traps? I have some money in MGCI, no capital growth but I receive a safe 10% a year in dividends, which is nice.
@TheCompoundingInvestor
@TheCompoundingInvestor 23 часа назад
I do like capital growth as well as dividends but if you are getting 10% a year return then that is pretty impressive.
@brenmuk
@brenmuk 17 часов назад
A lot of your shares are yielding less than many savings accounts and are below inflation so not great. Also while div growth is great if you start with a very low div yield of say 1% and it takes 10 years to increase by 100% to 2% that's a long time to earn a low income when you could have bought a div share at 4-5% with more modest div growth. Dividend investing is not as simple as you make out, you are not explaining how your strategy counters inflation and how your portfolio achieved a yield to cost of 6%.
@TheCompoundingInvestor
@TheCompoundingInvestor 10 часов назад
You have to take into account the capital growth as well as the dividend payout. Historically the S&P500 for instance has returned 10.3% per year on average since it was created. You can’t get that sort of return from keeping your money in a bank.
@PhillipHomer
@PhillipHomer 21 час назад
I presume you're reinvesting all these dividends. Can you explain why you invest in dividend stocks and not growth stocks, where you can avoid annual dividend tax and effectively create your own dividends should you need cash by selling off some stock when it suits you and in a tax-optimised way? Edit: just got to the end of the video and see you say you have everything in an ISA. That's rather impressive. Would you still buy dividend stocks in a non-sheltered account?
@TheCompoundingInvestor

@TheCompoundingInvestor
@TheCompoundingInvestor 7 часов назад
S&P500 has very low fees and a low dividend so that will stay outside the ISA VWRL has more expensive fees and also consists of the emerging markets which has underperformed so I intend to get rid of this ETF and put most of the proceeds into VEVE within the ISA VHYL is inside the ISA and I'll keep it. I'll shift as much VEVE as I can from outside the ISA to inside at the start of the new tax year. VEVE is basically VWRL with cheaper fees and without the underperforming emerging markets. ISF is inside the ISA and I'll keep this.

@TheCompoundingInvestor
@TheCompoundingInvestor 11 часов назад
It all depends what your ultimate goal is. Some companies pay a big dividend but the share price does not grow. Some don’t pay a dividend at all but have higher share price growth instead. Total return is therefore share price growth + dividends. Research shows that most people will do better over the long term by not trying to pick individual shares but simply buying an index tracking ETF e.g. one which tracks the whole world. You can choose ones which pay a dividend or ones which automatically reinvest the dividend back in. ETFs were not mainstream when I started but these days most of my new money goes into them. Not investment advice of course I’m just explaining what I would do in my own situation if starting again

I'm just watching at the stock exchanges pure statistically just to keep all emotions aside. Only investing in top 1 company (qua market cap) from each sector in EU zone and USA. Buying only the stocks that are below their linear regresion to look for their bottom price and selling when the price is far above this line to do it at their peak points - all statistically counted. Also I'm investing in ETF's - usually when I see no opportunity in the shares, so I'm just keeping my money into it until the correction of bear market comes. Then I'm changing it into shares. :)
